Oregon - United States
Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. It is bordered on its west by the Pacific Ocean, north by Washington, south by California, east by Idaho, and southeast by Nevada. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary, the Snake River largely its eastern.
Oregon's area was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in Oregon Country in 1843, Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859.

Elkhorn Scenic Byway, Oregon ~ 2/4 (Granite to forest road jct) 6-29-13
In northeastern Oregon, the Elkhorn Scenic Byway is only open in the summer & early fall (usually opening in late June or early July). Driven clockwise from Sumpter, Oregon (home of the Sumpter Valley Railroad steam train and Sumpter Valley Dredge State Park), the winding Forest Road 73 climbs two passes (Blue Springs Summit & Elkhorn Mountain Summit), passes the almost-ghost town of Granite (population about 40) and Anthony Lakes Ski Area (operating since 1933), before dropping down into the Baker Valley. The Elkhorn Mountains rise all around, unfortunately the forward facing camera (and the tall pines) hide most of them on this drive.
This second segment of the Elkhorn Scenic Byway runs from Granite to the junctions of Forest Service Roads 52 & 73.

Welcome to Elgin, Oregon Near LeGrande in Union County!
Elgin was settled by hunters, trappers, and people of all ethnic groups. Very rarely did they make the treacherous travels from nearby LaGrande, because it was 120 miles away by river through the valley, which back then was covered in thick forest. (Today, LaGrande and Elgin are only 20 miles away via Wallowa Lake Highway). Elgin was the gathering place for trappers and hunters to replenish their supplies. This is how Elgin became the Elgin Huskies. Many settlers emigrated from Walla Walla across the mountains on dog sleds. Mr. Mckinnis and his family were the first settlers. He brought cattle from Illinois and moved to what was the outskirts of Elgin, and built one of the first homes. Even though his home is not set in the history in Elgin there is a letter from his wife's sister attesting to this fact. Mr. McKinnis built the mills from Elgin to Lagrande and also owned all the century farms in the valley passing them down to his kin in death. He also worked in the first bank in Elgin before they moved to LaGrande.

Big Falls on the Illinois River outside of Selma Oregon
Big Falls on the Illinois River put in is a
15 to 20 minute drive from Ray's Food Place grocery store, from there parking lot cross Highway 199 and keep driving on Deer Creek Rd.You will see a river Putin on your left.Note the road is very narrow. The flow in this video is between 800 c.f.s. and 1,000 c.f.s.. Once you launch, you'll run a class 3 rapid, then its a straight away. At the end of the straight away you will see a concrete fish ladder on your left which you want to avoid. The run down the Falls is on the right, right down the tongue of water. Its a Double tiering drop. The first is smooth, the second is like 15 to 18 drop. The beauty of the Illinois is how crystal clear the water is and the scenery is Utopia.Once you've ran the Falls, take out is a on the water bridge that you mandatorily have to portage. At higher flows, its covered by water. On your way to that bridge, there will be a swinging bridge above you. If you want a trip that is longer than 2miles, put back in on the other side of the bridge and run on down to Miami Bar which adds like 4 to 6 more miles of beauty and serenity. There is a really cool class three in this section. If you didn't wanted to run Big Falls,it is easily portaged or you can ghost boat it.This waterfall was John Algie first vertical run, of this nature. Derek Scovell was just doing what Crazy Bill told him. Itll be fun.The Creature Craft you see, a Bacoon, is a 14 foot 3inch in length boat with 10 chambers of air. It has a Madcatr frame with Sawyer Shaft and blade.

Oregon Wheat
This is the story of Oregon wheat, typically soft white wheat grown in the vast expanses of Eastern Oregon, and in lush Willamette River Valleys. Wheat from these diverse regions has a common trait. It helps feed a hungry world. Which means it must travel from farm to river to terminals at the Port of Portland…and on to the world.
