Hemsby & Newport, Norfolk, England September 2015
A short video tour of Hemsby and Newport, Norfolk England.
As a kid I was taken here by my parents every year from early 70s till 83. I had some of the greatest times of my life here. I can safely say this was the only time I was truly happy as a kid. The place has not changed that much really, except the arcades now rip you off with those pathetic prize voucher things.
Hemsby and Newport will always hold a special place in my heart.
I go back for 1 day a year each year to see how the place is doing. I always take my camera and snap away. My main focus is the beach at Hemsby, It is so different now. When I was a kid there were 3 huge dune systems between the sea and Beach Rd (I used to get lost in them) now there is less than half a dune!!!
I expect that in my lifetime the last bit will go and the sea will wash up onto Beach Rd.

Christopher Lee filming at Hemsby Beach
In September 1989 the Hemsby beach resort near Great Yarmouth in the UK became a movie set for a day or two.
The late Christopher Lee, at the time still best known for his Hammer Horror movies, came to the seaside village with Anglia TV to film action scenes for a spy thriller, 'The Care of Time'. Hemsby was chosen for a sequence set in Florida!
The first showing of these re-discovered clips, shot on the fly with an early camcorder. Admittedly shaky in places - no image stabilising back then and post-stabilising would crop on what is already low-resolution footage. So shown here in it's raw form albeit a few edits.
The conversion and rendered file is not the best (the original VHS-C tape is far better) but hopefully this will be of interest to a few. Perhaps a curiosity at least to Chris Lee fans and more especially local people whose beach has suffered badly from erosion over the years.
If anyone can put names to any crew and particularly Chris Lee's stunt double or any trivia relating to that day, please share. Perhaps there's an old recording around, ie. the finished action sequence which made the final cut!
Music: Take Five - Dave Brubeck Quartet, Yachts - AMCA, Guaglione - Giuseppe Fanciulli, Kalimba - Mr Scruff.

The Village Thats Falling into the Sea - HQ documentary
Thursday 5 December 2013 is a night the residents of the Norfolk seaside resort of Hemsby will never forget. That night homes fell into the sea during the worst storm surge to hit the East Coast for sixty years.
David Whiteley witnessed the drama unfold. Seven months on he returns to find the community still fighting for the survival of their village. Hemsby is a village people fall in love with. It is the site of one of the country's first holiday camps, and tourists still flock there today to enjoy its beautiful sandy beach. But with no hope of government money to protect it, villagers have seen almost 70 homes go over the edge and into the sea. Seeking advice from erosion experts and business gurus, and building their own defences, the residents are determined not to let Hemsby be lost to the sea.
David joins the villagers in their latest campaign, meets the people about to buy a home on the threatened dunes and goes with the map man who's quite literally been redrawing the map of the East coast over 40 years of erosion.
