Founded in 1903, Japan's oldest Western-style “Hibiya Park” is an oasis of calm in the heart of Tokyo. It is within easy walking distance of the Imperial Palace and Ginza. At the center of the park is a fountain inspired by a crane, the nationally popular bird that brings good luck.
The park is one of the largest within easy striking distance of the Marunouchi central business district to the northeast, so it is a popular spot for office workers when the weather is nice.

Located in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, Hibiya Park is a park rich in water and greenery, located to the east of Kasumigaseki, where Japan's central organizations gather.
This time, I took a walk in Hibiya Park in autumn when the trees are colored. The leaves of a big ginkgo tree turned yellow and the trees around the pond turned red.

The parkland used to be the palace area of the feudal load, Matsudaira Bizennokami,up until the end of the Edo period. Then it served as a military drilling ground during the early part of the Meiji period. Later this park was designed and constructed as the first westernized urban-style park in Japan, and opened to the public in 1903.
Two outdoor music halls and the Hibiya public hall show enthusiasm of the park designer as a forerunner of culture. Now we can enjoy beautiful flowers all the year around in the center of Marunouchi, one of the hottest business town in Japan.

Tokyo Station (東京駅 Tōkyō-eki) is a railway station in the Chiyoda City, Tokyo, Japan. The original station is located in Chiyoda's Marunouchi business district near the Imperial Palace grounds. The newer Eastern extension is not far from the Ginza commercial district. Due to its large area covered, the station is divided into Marunouchi and Yaesu sides in its directional signage.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Hibiya park〜
Located to the north of the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and in the vicinity of Kasumigaseki, Hibiya and Uchisaiwai-cho, Hibiya Park is the first westernized modern park in Japan. The parkland used to be the palace area of a powerful feudal load during the Edo Period (1603–1868). In the Meiji Period (1868–1912) the land served as a military drilling ground. Later the park was designed and constructed as an urban-style park, opened to the public in 1903, and marked the 110th anniversary this year. In the vast 16-hectare grounds at the heart of Tokyo, the oasis for working people with 3100 tall trees, 10,000-square meters grass lawn and beds flowering year round attracts many people every day. There are large and small music halls and a public hall that are used widely by people from all over Japan.

Visit an oasis in the city! Hibiya Park - a park full of fun events
The scenery of the four seasons seen in Hibiya Park - located in the center of Tokyo - is astonishing. Beginning with the cherry blossoms in spring, the dark green of the trees in summer and the colorful autumn leaves invite visitors on a refreshing stroll through the park.
Also, there are many fun events throughout the year at Hibiya Park. Don't miss this energetic oasis!
Hibiya Park is Japan's first western-style park. This modern park opened in 1903. Its trademark is the big fountain. With 161,636 square meters, Hibiya Park is quite large. The atmosphere differs depending on the area of the park - so it is highly recommended to stroll through various areas! Enjoy the flowers and greenery of every season including western-style roses, Japanese style cherry blossoms, and the pretty yellow ginkgo leaves. Also, the park offers a tennis court and a famous restaurant called Matsumotoro.
A lot of fun events take place at Hibiya Park. In summer, Bon Odori, a traditional Japanese dance festival, is held. Locals and foreigners dance to the nostalgic music around the big fountain. Watching people wearing their colorful yukata (summer kimonos) and listening to the drum players at the yagura stage make this event unforgettable. There are many different dances at a Bon-Dance, but the dances with their repetitive moves are easy to learn. Just try to imitate the people surrounding you. It is one of the largest Bon-Dances in Tokyo. Anyone can join and participate, so please come and dance with us!
At Hibiya Park, music and food events are also held. In addition to a beer festival, popular local gourmet (specialties from different regions throughout Japan) events also take place from time to time. Perfect if you want to try delicious dishes you have never seen before.
From late November to early December, Hibiya Park will turn into a sea of beautiful autumn leaves. Especially the area around kumogata-ike pond (the cloud-shaped pond) is amazing. The cute bridge and the crane-shaped fountain there are beautiful photo spots.
Hibiya Park is a wonderful park not only for relaxing but also for joining fun events. It's a great place to visit - so please come by!
