High Head Hiking Trail - Prospect, Nova Scotia
A picture perfect mid-summer day in one of my favourite places in #NovaScotia. A short drive from downtown #Halifax brings you to this piece of heaven on earth. Within the Bill Freedman Nature Reserve, this hike doesn't take long but you can easily spend all day as I did, and be treated to one of the greatest #ocean sunset views in the province.

Cobequid Escarpment - Hiking in Nova Scotia
We traveled towards Economy Nova Scotia to do a 6km loop at the start of fall colors season.
The main trail we wanted to access was called Cobequid Escarpment, but it is a segment amongst the other trails within the system. Many would opt to hike the Kenomee Canyon or along Devil's Bend trails. The common element is that you get to see Economy Falls.
We started out doing the loop clockwise, and crossed the bridge to the other side of the escarpment. The forest was a nice mix of soft & hard woods.
The trail was well marked but sometimes you had to double check to make sure. Like when to cross the river again. There's no second bridge; you had to get wet in order to get on the Devil's Bend trail and get back to the upper parking lot.
Usually the river would be low, but we had a large amount of rain a few days before. Great for the falls, but not for the river crossing as the water reached over my knees along the crossing. Cold cold water.
Once my feet dried and my hiking boots were back on, it's an easy finish to the trail intersection where you can go down, way down to view the falls. Bare in mind that you will have many, many steps to climb, so take your time.
This took about 3 hours to complete, bring a buddy. The terrain is not complex, and don't forget to bring some sandals to cross the river.

Liscomb River Trail - Hiking in Nova Scotia
Right before the fall color peak got passed us, decided to take the long drive up the Eastern shore towards Liscomb Lodge to hike a challenging but scenic trail; Liscomb River trail.
While it is a loop trail, the trail has two trailheads. One at the main entrance to the Liscomb Lodge. The other trail head is several hundred meters down the road on the other wise of the river.
We opted to hike to the main money shot of the trail, the suspension bridge and turn back. It still ended up being a 8km hike, but my fur buddy didn't like crossing the bridge.
So starting out from the main parking lot, we hiked behind the cabins onto the trail following the river. the trail is well defined and groomed as we approached the scenic views of crooked falls and the lookout.
Past that point, the trail often looks like a goat path and with the terrain suddenly increasing in difficulty. We crossed a stream via a small footbridge and continued along the river.
There are several pools that allow salmon to spawn up river. It was until the halfway point that we saw the fish ladder on one side and the bridge on the other.
By climbing up to the bridge, we saw the gorge and the fantastic view looking down river. We could have continued the loop, but as expected my fur buddy didn't want to cross the bridge. That's ok, we'll be back.

Hiking Trails of Nova Scotia - High Head
High Head is an open area of rock on the north face of the Cobequid Mountains. From here extensive views of the Northumberland shore and Strait are available, and on a clear day you might catch glimpses both of Prince Edward Island and the fixed link. High Head is reached by climbing the Wentworth Ski Hill, following its summit cross-country ski trails, and by an informal side trail.
A detailed route description is found in Hiking Trails of Nova Scotia, 9th edition.
