Highwood Pass - Ptarmigan Cirque Hike - Kananaskis Country, Alberta
We took the family on a nice little hike an hour and a half from Calgary at the summit of Highwood Pass. Highwood Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.206m (7,238ft) above sea level. Located in Alberta, it's the highest paved pass in Canada.
Hike Summary from AllTrails:
Ptarmigan Cirque is a 4.3 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail located near Kananaskis Improvement, Alberta, Canada that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from June until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
This is a beautiful hike with such little effort required for stunning views. The short distance and incredible views make a great quick hike good for young children. You will likely see lots of wildlife (squirrels, chipmunks, big horn sheep) with nice small waterfalls and great scenery. This is a fragile alpine area and people should respect that and stay on the trail. It is also advisable to carry bear spray.
Highway leading up to hike is closed Dec-June.

Highwood Pass and Bull Creek Hills, Kananaskis, Alberta. 2019
June 22, 2019.
Summer begins, lots of fresh snow at Highwood Pass. We were going to hike Mist Ridge but it was really mucky and snowy. We headed south and ended up at Bull Creek Hills. Interesting gnarly limber pines there.

This video is captured on the approach to 2,341 m (7,680 ft) Rickert's Pass from the Mist Creek Trail just before the junction with the Mist Ridge Trail. Our approach has been a 10 KM (6.3 mile) hike through the forest parallel to Mist Creek in the bottom of the valley. The other side of Rickert's Pass drops aggressively to Burn's Mine and the trail continues to historic Denning's Cabin.

Mt.Tyrwitt Scramble, Highwood Pass, #Kananaskis (HD)
#MtTyrwitt in Highwood Pass area of Kananaskis. Parking lot is the highest paved road in Canada at over 7200 feet ASL. This scramble is worth the climb alone to be able to see the massive Rock Arch about 3/4 the way up. Lots of loose scree on slab rock but a great climb. 2.75 hours up and 1.75 hours down. 650 meters elevation gain and around 9400 feet up. Watch that you climb slightly offline of the guys above and below you as rock WILL be coming down. It's fairly steep and loose. #thenorthface
Highwood Pass
Highwood Pass is the highest public road in Canada. Topping out nearly in the alpine zone at 2206-m (7238-ft). The winter gates were closed, keeping a 54-km (33.6-mi) section free of motorists. And people were enjoying what has become an annual street fair for cyclists
