Day 1| BEST TREK Around KATHMANDU | Awesome Day of EPIC ft Wanderlust Himalaya Adventures
Trekking in Nepal. I wanted to squeeze in a short trek around Kathmandu. I did the Kopasi- Balthali- Namobuddha-Dhulikhel trek with Wanderlust Himalaya Adventures. It’s one of the best hikes near Kathmandu and it was such an awesome trekking day in Nepal. It is a popular two day trek around Kathmandu Valley. Our start is located 2 hours east of downtown Kathmandu. Our first day's goal ends in Dhulikhel.
I did a shout out to my good friend Nabaraj, who runs his own trekking and tour company. He gave me a customized tour so I could film the valley and village life- I love filming human stories. I wanted epic scenery but also wanted to see village culture and lifestyles. But this trek surpassed my wildest expectations and you’ll see why.
Trivia: initially Nabaraj sold me my very first trekking tour a decade ago when he was just 19 years old and worked for another company. I’m honored to be taking one of his Kathmandu trekking tours! My first trek was Bhaktapur to Nagarkot, which is another top trek around Kathmandu as well.

Nepal, hiking in the Himalayas
2002 Trekking in the Kathmandu valley and the Ganesh Himal. A short review of a wonderful journey with lots of culture, nature and meetings.
Kathmandu Nepal in the Himalayas
Nepal Himalayas, Kathmandu Valley
The Most Gorgeous Sunrise in Nepal over the Himalayan Mountain Range - if you want to find a meditative and serene spot out of the hubbub of Kathmandu this is it - Namobuddha Monastery only 90 minutes from crazy Kathmandu.
You can stay inexpenisvely in either a monk room (bare bones but cheap - $5) or in the guesthouse, I stayed there, it was more comfy with a view. $8 per night. No internet. But glorious place to meditate - superb place to be solo and serene.
The monastery food is all white. Starch and no protein or veggies. You can buy low cost food at one of the Nepali home restaurants next to the guesthouse. Eggs made by a woman who cooks out of her kitchen. Lovely families.
Highly recommend this if you want to be 90 min to Kathmandu.
You can also meditate and sit with the monks chanting in the morning - in an incredible temple that makes you feel like you are in Tibet. Better than Tibet as Tibetans can no longer practice Buddhism in Tibet and have to call it China now.
Go to Namobuddha monastery, just walking in the hills here will give you a holy re-charge.
From Kathmandu, only 90 minutes.
MANASLU TREK - HIMALAYAS, NEPAL 2017
In April 2017, my brother Ben and I decided to do the thing we had only ever dreamt about..trekking in the Himalayas, Nepal.
Over 12 days we hiked through water, dirt, dust and snow hiking the most beautiful and terrifying terrain we had ever seen.
We had no idea what to expect and Manaslu mountain definitely pushed us to our limits.
A journey that will not be soon forgotten.
Heres only some of what we saw.

Everest Base Camp Trek: The Logistics
Hiking gear
Since Jeff and I were traveling and spent a month in Bali before our Everest basecamp trek, we were wildly unprepared for the trek. We did have base layers and some long sleeves, but not much else! However, it is good to know that you can find everything you need in Katmandu, Lukla or even higher, up to Namche Bazaar at 3,400m - however, it does get a little more expensive as you go up, of course.
We strongly recommend to rent sleeping bags and down jackets - we rented both of those for about $2.50 per day per person at the Kala Pattar shop in Thamel, Katmandu. We also bought the rest of our hiking gear, including hiking backpacks, hiking boots, gloves, hats, neck warmers, fleece-doubled hiking pants and warm socks at the same shop - the more you buy, the more you can haggle!
Aside from finding a good backpack to carry everything on your back, it is an absolute must that you also have an easy access bag, like a bumbag, for all those things you’ll be needing easy access to like your phone, chapstick, tissues, money, permits, snacks, camera, etc. We highlight recommend Eastpak products, and neither of us travel anywhere without their bumbags around our necks.
Altitude
It is important to inform yourself and your group members about the effects of altitude and AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Early symptoms from 2,500m can include a strong headache, and you need to stop climbing. Start descending immediately if you experience dizziness, shortness of breath while resting, nausea or exhaustion in addition to the headache. AMS can lead to HAPE (high altitude pulmonary oedema) or HACE (high altitude cerebral oedema), which are both life threatening, but usually only occur at very high altitude. Make sure to be aware and to follow the recommendations to avoid AMS, and don’t climb more than 500 meters a day above 3,000 meters. If you are feeling unwell, you can inform the lodge owners, they are very helpful and most can organize a helicopter rescue if needed.
Diamox should not be taken by pregnant women or anyone with liver or kidney issues.
Everest Base Camp Trek: The Full Itinerary
Day 1 - Katmandu (4,593ft / 1,400m) - Lukla (9,334ft / 2,845m) to Phakding (8,563ft / 2,610m) to Monjo (9,301ft / 2,835m)
Trekking time: 3 hours from Lukla to Phakding + 3 hours from Phakding to Monjo. Total 6 hours
The trek to Everest base camp starts with a relatively nerve wracking flight, in the smallest plane we’ve ever taken - only 7 seats, and one flight attendant! You will be offered mints and cotton for your ears as the plane takes off from Katmandu and zigzags in between mountains to approach Tenzing–Hillary Airport in Lukla.
Tip: Make sure to seat on the plane’s left side for the best views of the Himalayas!
You will see Lukla’s famous short landing strip with its 11.7% gradient appear in front of you. While it can make you nervous, embrace the feeling of landing on the 500m strip, it will definitely be a good story to tell!
Once you get out of the plane, you will find yourself in the second smallest airport in the world. From there, grab your bag, and let’s head on the trek!
You should normally arrive early morning, before 8.30am, so you can be in Phakding for lunch.
Start walking on the path and enjoy the first 2 hours going downhill - how easy, you will think. Beware, as you will have to go up during the last 2 hours of the trek!
Stop in Phakding for lunch halfway, and continue another 3 hours of uphill hiking to Monjo, through beautiful sceneries with prayer wheels and suspended bridges where you can spend your first night.

How Expensive is Trekking in Nepal? Practical Trekking Information
Trekking in Nepal Himalaya - Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal
Everest base camp trekking in Nepal from Jiri trail was taken by Tenzing and Hilary to climb Mount Everest in 1953, and We did Everest base camp Trek and Kalapather trek taking the same trail in December 2014 with a group of friends/clients from Canada, Australia, UK and Ireland. We were planning to do all three passes trek, Everest base camp, Kalapather, Gokyo trek but it was snowing for 2 days so the passes got closed then we turn to do only Everest base camp and Kalapatther from the normal route.
Trekking in the Everest region starts either from the town of Jiri, accessible from Kathmandu by bus or private jeep, or from Lukla, a short flight from Kathmandu.
If you have a limited amount of time, then it is best to fly into Lukla from Kathmandu (although in order to avoid altitude sickness you will still need a minimum of 2 weeks to trek to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar). But if you have the time it is well worth spending an extra week by walking in, which will give you ample time to improve your fitness and acclimatize for the high mountain trails. You will also enjoy the opportunity of getting off the beaten track and following in the footsteps of the early mountaineers on the old expedition route.

The Great Himalaya Trail – 1864 Kilometer Trailrunning in Nepal (english version)
The Great Himalaya Trail is one of the longest and most difficult trails in the world. At some sections it reaches a height of over 6,000 meters. At the same time, the path is also a lifeline for millions of people and an ancient, increasingly threatened trade route. The journalist and ultra-marathon runner Peter Hinze has run the route of more than 1,864 kilometers across Nepal. An incomparable running adventure from Kanchenjunga in the east, always along the Chinese border in the north to Indian border at Darchula in the west. Past Makalu, Mount Everest, Manaslu, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. 95,551 vertical meters leading to people who for generations have been living a life of struggle with an inhospitable nature and who today are threatened as ever by climate change, the approaching civilization and the influence of the Chinese. A run to the last guardians of the Himalayas. A run that remembers Peter Hinze of encounters with great people - and at the same time of 94 portions of Dal Bhat, the Nepalese national dish.
Cycling in Nepal - MTB Action Cam: 4 - Ganesh, Langtang & Helambu - The Great Himalaya Trail, Nepal
The epic mountain biking journey continues along the Great Himalaya Trail, joining the dots between the towns & villages in the mid hills of Nepal, below the mighty peaks in Ganesh, Langtang & Helambu. More developed than Far West Nepal, this part of the trail meant some good riding on graded dirt trails. From Gorkha to Arughat to Trishuli to Dolalghat to Charikot!
