The three ski slopes in Oshu will open on December 20.
This video introduces the features and fees for “Himekayu Ski Slopes,” “Koeji Ski Slopes,” and “Kunimi Daira Ski Slopes.”

The three ski resorts in Oshu will all open this month on the 20th.
If you purchase a season pass to one of these three ski resorts, or to Geto Kogen Ski Resort, you will receive a discount on day passes for other lifts.
“Children in elementary school or younger can ride the lifts for free each Sunday, known as “Children’s Ski Day,” at Himekayu Ski Slopes.
In any event, it is very inexpensive.
And there are many special plans for families and groups.
“Ski! Fly! Do It!!”
This snow park is full of excitement, such as kickers and box rails.
The ladies can get there easily. It is off Route 397, just a straight line.
Fun for everyone! Please come to Himekayu Ski Slopes.”
“Koeji Ski Slopes has powder snow, and has little wind.
You can enjoy the beginners’ course, and work your way up to advanced.
There is also a family slope so that small children can enjoy sledding.
We also have a ski school for seniors and ladies on weekdays, not to mention the weekend.
Please come and enjoy winter sports with a homey feeling this winter at Koeji Ski Slopes.”
Kunimi-Daira Ski Slopes have been renewed and upgraded.
“Some of our features include our ski school instructors and porters, and we have various items and jumps for you.
These courses have been cut through beech forests and are great when the snow comes in.”

Oshu TABI ROMAN #06～Oshu City Yakeishi-Dake Hot Springs HIMEKAYU～
【explanation】
After climbing Yakeishi-Dake or sightseeing around Isawa, stop in at Yakeishi-Dake Hot Springs HIMEKAYU.
There are two fountainheads with different hot spring qualities. Locally, it is known as the “BIHADA NO YU” (Waters of Beautiful Skin).
The views of the mountains and Isawa Dam from the open-air baths and the rooms are wonderful.

The season for summer mountaineering has finally arrived.
Taneyama Heights and Yakeishi Mountains in Oshu are opened on June 1.
Today we are visiting the YAKEISHI-DAKE Hot Springs HIMEKAYU at the base of the YAKEISHI Mountains.
It is about a 30 minute drive to HIMEKAYU from the Mizusawa Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway, and 20 minutes from the YAKEISHI-DATE trailhead.

OK. Shall we start with a bath?
Let’s take a look at the open-air bath.
This space gives you a sense of freedom.
There are two fountainheads with different spring water qualities.
Both are smooth and feel as if they adhere to your skin.
Local people are quite familiar with this “BIHADA NO YU” (Waters of Beautiful Skin).
You might end up unintentionally staying in the bath for a long time gazing at the snow remaining on the Yakeishi Mountains.
And now it’s time to enjoy the evening meal.
The ingredients used are harvested locally.
This o-mochi (rice cakes) is called “JUNE-MOCHI.”
“JUNE” is from the local dialect for “wild sesame” grain. It is one of the local specialties.
There are various selections for those who do not stay the night as well.
The ingredients here are also made locally.
The rooms have beautiful views, where you can see the Yakeishi Mountains and Isawa Dam. It will give you a feeling of relaxation.
Climb Yakeishi-Dake. Take a bath. Eat some delicious food.

Japanese particle physics leap—ILC near Sendai?
Europe's CERN and its Large Hadron Collider is the home of exciting developments towards our understanding of the universe we live in, making worldwide headlines with regularity.
The next step beyond the LHC is the International Linear Collider—a straight line design allowing high energy acceleration of much tinier particles, notably electrons and positrons.
There are candidate sites in Europe and the USA as well, and a decision has not yet been made, but the leading candidate worldwide is a site in the Kitakami mountains north of Sendai, Japan.
This would be right in the heart of the region devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, and from Tōhoku's point of view it would be a stunning and welcome reversal of recent fortune.
(Of course, technical concerns relating to seismic activity are fully taken into account as part of the site evaluation—top world scientists, not politicians, are making the decision)

今回は、ひめかゆスキー場に行って滑って来ました。
初ひめかゆです。小さなゲレンデですがリーズナブルに滑れるのが魅力！
また滑ったあとはお風呂が隣接してるので、汗を流して帰れます。側には焼石クアパークひめかゆもあるので、そちらの入浴施設を利用するのもあり！
この日のゲレンデコンディションは、日陰はガリガリ、陽当たりがいい場所は、シャバ雪で春雪ぽかったです。

Skiing Geto Kogen in Iwate
December 20th, 2014. My first season running tours to Geto and I can already tell it's going to be a good winter! The snow base is just getting good and there's plenty more to come. This ridge course starts out slow but picks up in the middle and end. Today it was a bit icy so it was easy to skate over the flat terrain.

Legend has it that storks used to bathe in the marshes of Kinosaki to heal their wounds. Later, bath houses were built over these very sites to capitalize on the healing waters. Since then Kinosaki has become one of the most popular onsen destination in the Kansai region.
Nowadays there are a number of ryokan in the area, all with their own baths equipped, but the real draw to Kinosaki are the seven public bath houses (sotoyu). Also some beautiful foot baths (ashiyu) and spring water drinking fountains are scattered throughout town.
