Tour of Hintang Archeological Park, Houa Phan Province, Laos
Falsely compared to Stonehenge by the Lonely Planet, this place is buried 6km off the main road between Sam Neua and Nam Neun, Laos. That 6km was terrible, a rugged, rutted, dusty, rocky, dirt road. Here's what our 'reward' was...
Hua Phan Menhirs, Hintang
During 2013 I was travelling at the later end of a Year across Central Asia and SEA. Whilst in Laos which I covered extensivey up in the North near Sam Nuea I vistsed these Menhirs
Some 110 km (70 miles) northeast of the famous Plain of Jars in Laos is a less well known but equally mysterious series of archaeological sites: the standing stones of the Hintang Archaeological Park in Houaphan Province, not far from the border with Vietnam.
These megalithic sites are located in the mountains about 35 km south west of the sleepy provincial capital of Sam Neua. The two most important sites are San Khong Phan and Keohintang.
I hope you enjoy seeing them too?

Ban Had San in Sam Neua
I really like this village as it gives you a glimpse into village life in a Tai Daeng (Red Tai) village in northern Huaphan Province. The Nam Ma River flows alongside the village and one morning Bai's cousin caught a couple of good-sized fish. A local trader from the larger village of Ban Sop Bao came by and bought the fish from Ahn (the boy's name). And what's best about the video is his reaction after getting paid - He's now a wealthy young man1
Laos Sunset in Houa Phanh Province
Filmed at the top of a massive mountain, a 3km climb, right before a 12km descent to Nam Neun. Photos didn't quite do it justice, but this video probably doesn't either :-).
