Medak Cathedral - The biggest church in the Asia
Medak Cathedral is the largest of all churches in Andhra Pradesh. The Cathedral also sees over the Diocese of Medak, which is the single largest diocese in Asia and the second largest diocese in the world. The cathedral is 100 ft (30 m) wide and 200 ft (61 m) long and conforms to the Gothic Revival style. It can accommodate about 5,000 people at a time. The mosaic tiles were imported from England and are of six different colours. Italian masons from Bombay were engaged for decorating the flooring. Massive pillars built with fine hewn and well dressed grey stone support the gallery and the whole edifice. The roof of the church is made sound-proof by means of hollow sponge material and has an impressive style of vaulting. The vaulting on the ceiling is in the shape of squares. The bell-tower of the Cathedral is 175 ft (53 m) high. The biggest attraction of the Cathedral are its stained glass windows depicting different scenes from Christ's life - Ascension behing the altar, Nativity in the west transept, and Crucifixion in the east transept. The windows were designed by Sir. O. Salisbury of England. The stained glass windows were installed at different periods.

Native rain sacrifice with chickens in Arunachal Pradesh, India
A 115 year old man turns up to carry out a centuries old rain sacrifice, using chickens and young chicks as sacrificial 'lambs' on a tribal platform in Ziro village, Arunachal Pradesh, India.
After the ceremony, the hunched over old man walks through the village with the chicks tied to a bamboo pole.
Arunachal Pradesh is a state of India. Located in northeast India, Arunachal Pradesh borders the states of Assam and Nagaland to the south, and shares international borders with Bhutan in the west, Myanmar in the east and the People's Republic of China (PRC) in the north. Itanagar is the capital of the state.
Arunachal Pradesh means land of the dawn-lit mountains. It is also known as land of the rising sun in reference to its position as the easternmost state of India. Like other parts of Northeast India, a majority of the people native to the state are of Tibeto-Burman origin. A large and increasing number of migrants have reached Arunachal Pradesh from many other parts of India, although no reliable population count of the migrant population has been conducted, and percentage estimates of total population accordingly vary widely. Part of the famous Ledo Burma Road, which was a lifeline to China during World War II, passes through the eastern part of the state.

Standing magnificently on Aradura Hills - Kohima cathedral
The Cathedral is located on Aradura Hill in Kohima. It is one of the biggest cathedrals in North East India. Its splendid architecture makes it one of the important landmarks of Kohima. The unique design created by blending the traditional with the orthodox resulted in an architectural marvel. It is also home to the largest cross that is made of wood in the country. The magnificent crucifix is carved in wood and is 16 ft high, possibly one of the tallest wooden carved crucifixes in Asia. The Stations of the Cross posed in the main entrance is a special beautiful feature. It is the presentation of Jesus' final journey with the cross, the last journey to Calvary. The fourteen stations, pose a real replica to the faithful with its beautiful arrangement on the slope of the hill leading up to the Cathedral.
The Cathedral was inaugurated on the day of the Un's day of settlement. The Cathedral at this part of India has a very pleasant atmosphere for prayer and worship. The Catholic Cathedral in Kohima is a place worth seeing for its ideal blend of indigenous structural design.architectural might and complexity is a surprise. The semicircular building with its modern architectural thinking covers one side of the Araduura hill with every bit of construction planned in detail with no space wasted. Its façade is shaped like a traditional Naga House. A complete structure, including official and residential rooms!
The Cathedral owes its existence to Lt. Rev. Abraham Alnagimattathil, whose brain child this Cathedral is. He was the first bishop of Nagaland and he wanted to provide a place for all to pray and spend time in solitude with the self and the Divine.
The actual work began in 1986 and the dedication and consecration of the church was done in 1991. The lion's share of the three crore financial expense came from Japanese, who wished the church to be a place of prayer especially for the Japanese war victims who laid down their lives for their nation in the Second World War battle fought in Kohima. This is affirmed in the prayer inscribed in English & Japanese script in the Cathedral Campus. ...It is with thankfulness that we heard that Catholic Cathedral was being built at Kohima, where mass would be offered every morning in memory of the fallen...
