#Sensoji #金龍山浅草寺
is an ancient Buddhist temple located in #Asakusa Tokyo, Japan. It is Tokyo's oldest #temple, and one of its most significant. Formerly associated with the Tendai sect of #Buddhism, it became independent after World War II. Adjacent to the temple is a five-story pagoda, #shintoshrine the #asakusashrine, as well as many shops with traditional #goods in the Nakamise-dōri
The Sensoji Kannon temple is dedicated to Kannon Bosatsu, the Bodhisattva of compassion, and is the most widely visited #spiritual site in the world with over 30 million visitors annually.
It ranks among the top 10 temples in Japan for the number of visitors in the #newyear
The temple is dedicated to the #bodhisattva Kannon (Avalokiteśvara). According to legend, a statue of the Kannon was found in the #SumidaRiver in 628 by two fishermen, the brothers Hinokuma Hamanari and Hinokuma Takenari. The chief of their village, Hajino Nakamoto, recognized the sanctity of the statue and enshrined it by remodeling his own house into a small temple in Asakusa so that the villagers could worship Kannon..
A #Kimono is a #traditional #Japanese garment. Kimono was basically derived from the #Chinese. #Kimonos are often worn for important #festivals or formal occasions as #formalclothing. A woman's kimono may easily exceed US$10,000 a complete#outfit, with #accessories, can exceed $20,000. However, most kimonos owned by kimono hobbyists or by practitioners of traditional arts are far less expensive. Enterprising people make their own kimono and undergarments by following a standard pattern, or by recycling older kimonos. Cheaper and machine-made fabrics can substitute for the traditional hand-dyed silk. There is also a thriving #business in #Japan for second-hand kimonos, which can cost as little as ¥100 (about $1.25) at thrift stores in the #Tokyo area. Women's obi, however, mostly remain an expensive item. Although simple patterned or plain colored ones can cost as little as ¥500(about $6), even a used obi can cost hundreds and even thousands of $, and experienced craftsmanship is required to make them. #cute #child #kids #lovely #baby #children
Fire Lanterns over Chengdu 成都
Someone setting off fire lanterns over the river in Chengdu. Fire lanterns are kind of like tiny, ancient-Chinese hot-air balloons made of paper. I'm not sure why they're legal. There was a long chain of about a dozen of them floating off into the night. I didn't see any of them actually go down; the tiny red dots in the video are distant fire lanterns.
