Hosp Grove Park and Trails -Across from Buena Vista Lagoon
Hosp Grove Park and Trails In Carlsbad,CA
Early in 1908, F.P Hosp and Partners planted 40,000 eucalyptus seedlings creating this grove. They hoped to supply railroad ties to the Sante Fe Railroad. The wood was found to be inferior to other types. In 1987, 53 acres of the grove were acquired by the City of Carlsbad and in 1995, 5.5 acres were dedicated to this park. There are 3 miles of trails for hiking as well as a picnic area and playground. Plus the park sits right across the street from the Buena Vista Lagoon.
Terrain: Unpaved
Distance: 3.0
Difficulty: Moderate and difficult
Located in north Carlsbad, this trail is one of the most extensive in the citywide trail system. It winds through a huge grove of mature eucalyptus trees planted many years ago for the railroad industry with the intention for the wood to be used in the construction of rail lines. However, it was determined that the wood was inferior to other varieties and not harvested for that purpose. Years later the city acquired the property and it is now enjoyed by hikers, picnickers, and nature enthusiasts seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. The unpaved trail climbs to more than 100 feet in elevation and offers great views of the adjacent Buena Vista Lagoon and the Pacific Ocean.

Baby Southern Pacific Rattlesnake, Carlsbad, California
A baby Southern Pacific Rattlesnake lay motionless on a dirt hiking trail two hours before sunset near the California coastline. It seemed unresponsive and sickly so I poured some cateen water on it (nothing but salt marsh around), which caused it to recoil and face my direction, but it resumed its statue routine after that.

In Carlsbad, golf isn't just a game, it's an experience. Beautifully designed, world-class courses

With such a diverse range of homes in the community, my favorite area has to be the village.
It was the first part of Carlsbad to be settled and the homes range from cute mid-century
cottages to extravagant mansions overlooking the ocean. There are very few coastal homes
in all of San Diego County that have direct beach access. It is also home to Hosp Grove Park,
a grove of trees relatively untouched by development and now designated by the city for
recreational use, other protected spaces include Buena Vista and Agua Hedionda Lagoons.
Carlsbad has a very progressive business district, which is headquarters to many medical
technology and manufacturing firms. Let's not forget the famous Legoland Resort. With a top
tier shopping available, many come to explore the Carlsbad Premium Outlets , which should
satisfy all of your lifestyle needs. Carlsbad also has its own airport, at Palomar with regional
service in the South West.
Flower production is an important part of the community and is one of the premier growing
regions for poinsettias and other popular flowers. From March through May the fields comes
alive!
Beautiful beaches, panoramas views and an outdoor lifestyle beyond compare await you in Carlsbad.
