Weigh-in For The Nations Fight Night Card At The Howard Theatre In Washington DC on August 12th!
The Nation's Fight Night card that will take place on Saturday, August 12th at the Howard Theatre in Washington, DC is coming together.
Headlining the card will be undefeated Hyattsville, MD super lightweight Patrick Harris who will take on veteran Jesus Lule of Fort Myers, FL in a six-round contest. Harris (11-0, seven KO's) won an eight-round unanimous decision against Omar Garcia in his last outing on April 8th at the MGM National Harbor Casino in Oxon Hill, MD.
Lule, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil (11-22-1, two KO's), scored a second-round TKO over Ismael Serrano on June 27th in Bethlehem, PA. This is Lule's second visit to the Nation's Capitol. Lule lost an eight-round unanimous decision to Lamont Roach, Jr. in March of 2016 at the DC Armory.
DC welterweight Kareem Reemo Martin returns to action against Evincii Prize Fighter Dixon of Lancaster, PA in a six-round bout. This will be the first bout for Martin (8-1-1, three KO's) since his eighth-round TKO loss to David Grayton on August 23rd in Bethlehem, PA. Dixon (7-18-2, two KO's) has fought his last four bouts in California and is 0-3-1 in those contests. Dixon's last outing saw him get knocked out in the second round by Ruslan Madiev on April 6th in Costa Mesa.
There will be two ladies bouts on the card. Baltimore, MD super middleweight The Heavy-Hitting Diva Franchon Crews-Dezurn will be in a four-round bout against Sydney Ginger the Ninja LeBlanc of Gretna, LA. Crews-Dezurn (1-1, one KO) bounced back from his pro debut loss to newly-crowned world champion Claressa Shields in November to score a first-round TKO over Latashia Burton on March 25th at the University of the District of Columbia. LeBlanc (4-2-1) lost her last bout against Shields, dropping an eight-round unanimous decision on June 16th in Detroit, MI. LeBlanc also has a victory over Burton -- a four-round unanimous decision in June of 2013.
Also, Bladensburg, MD featherweight The Dark Menace Tiara Brown will battle veteran Tammy The Tigress Franks of San Antonio, TX in a four-round contest. Brown (2-0, one KO) won a four-round unanimous decision over Natalie King on the March 25th UDC card. Franks (2-28-1) lost a four-round unanimous decision to Elvina White on April 25th in Tunica, MS.
In another four-round bout, undefeated DC super welterweight Shynggyskhan Tazhibay will face Robert Hitman Hill of Gulfport, MS. Tazhibay (4-0, two KO's) makes his first appearance since May of 2016 when he won a four-round unanimous decision over Ahmet Kayrelti in Timonium, MD. Hill (7-33-1, one KO) won a six-round unanimous decision over Roy Garcia in his last outing on July 29th in Gulfport.
DC lightweight Tyrek I.G.B Irby is scheduled to take on Pablo Capul of San Diego, CA by way of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico in a six-round contest. However, that has not been finalized. Irby (3-0, one KO) won a six-round unanimous decision over Brandon Sanudo on June 3rd in Fort Washington, MD. Capul (9-23, five KO's) lost a four-round unanimous decision to the debuting Brandon Trejo on May 19th in Ontario, CA.
Also on the card will be undefeated Philadelphia, PA welterweight Jaron Boots Ennis who will face Ricardo Cano of Guadalajara, Mexico in an eight-round bout. After a stellar amateur career, Ennis (13-0, 11 KO's) has had an outstanding start to his pro career. In his last outing, Ennis stopped Robert Hill in the third round in Durham, NC. This is the second trip to the Beltway for Ennis. In June of 2016, Ennis needed just 20 seconds to stop Deshawn Debose in Springfield, VA. Recently, Ennis was named the Philadelphia Boxing Rookie of the Year.
Cano (17-13-5, 10 KO's) makes his first trip to the Continental United States with this bout. Cano will try to bounce back from suffering a first-round knockout against Jelame Garcia on March 25th in Fajardo, Puerto Rico.
California rookie welterweight Brandun Lee will compete in a four-round contest against veteran Roy Garcia of Alice, TX. The 18-year-old Lee (4-0, three KO's) makes a quick return to action after winning a four-round unanimous decision over Donovain Battle on July 29th in Charlotte, NC.
Garcia (4-24-1, three KO's) also returns quickly after suffering his July 29th loss to Robert Hill in Gulfport, MS. Garcia returns to DC for the second time after dropping a six-round unanimous decision to Cobia Breedy on March 25th at UDC. Garcia also lost to Eric Hernandez by six-round unanimous decision in December of 2016 in Springfield, VA.

We’re the 8 Wards that makeup
Washington, D.C.
The capital of the USA
Is what we be
Washington, D.C.
Isn’t part of any state
And is one of the most visited cities in the world isn’t that great
I am Ward 1
I’m the smallest
in terms of land area
But I’m the most densely populated
ward in the District that I’ll share with ya
I am home to
Tivoli Theater, National Zoo
and Rock Creek Park,
Howard University,
And Meridian Hill
are all famous landmarks
How do you do
My name is Ward 2
most of Downtown DC sits within the confines of me
I am home to the White House and World War II Memorial
And the National Mall
which includes the
Washington Monument But that’s not all
You are really great to see
My name is Ward 3
I’m mostly a residential area located in the upper northwest quadrant of the city
Some of my attractions are Chevy Chase Park and Foxhall
Mazza Gallerie, the Avalon and Uptown Theatre, you can visit them all
I sure hope you’re not bored
Because my name is Ward 4
I’m the most northern part of Washington D.C. Maybe you’ve been here before
I’m mostly a Beautiful and diverse collection of neighborhoods

Washington, D.C. formally the District of Columbia is the capital of the United States of America since July 16, 1790.
The state of Maryland donated land to create what is now known as Washington, D.C.
The stats of Virginia had also donated land which was returned to Virgina in 1846.
Washington, D.C. is not in a state but there is a movement for statehood which would have the name of the 51st state as New Columbia.

The White House in Washington, D.C.
The White House is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States, located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, Washington, D.C.. It has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800.
The house was designed by Irish-born James Hoban,[1] and built between 1792 and 1800 of white-painted Aquia Creek sandstone in the Neoclassical style. When Thomas Jefferson moved into the house in 1801, he (with architect Benjamin Henry Latrobe) expanded the building outward, creating two colonnades that were meant to conceal stables and storage.[2]
In 1814, during the War of 1812, the mansion was set ablaze by the British Army in the Burning of Washington, destroying the interior and charring much of the exterior. Reconstruction began almost immediately, and President James Monroe moved into the partially reconstructed Executive Residence in October 1817. Construction continued with the addition of the South Portico in 1824 and the North in 1829.
Because of crowding within the executive mansion itself, President Theodore Roosevelt had all work offices relocated to the newly constructed West Wing in 1901. Eight years later, President William Howard Taft expanded the West Wing and created the first Oval Office which was eventually moved as the section was expanded. The third-floor attic was converted to living quarters in 1927 by augmenting the existing hip roof with long shed dormers. A newly constructed East Wing was used as a reception area for social events; Jefferson's colonnades connected the new wings.
East Wing alterations were completed in 1946, creating additional office space. By 1948, the house's load-bearing exterior walls and internal wood beams were found to be close to failure. Under Harry S. Truman, the interior rooms were completely dismantled and a new internal load-bearing steel frame constructed inside the walls. Once this work was completed, the interior rooms were rebuilt.
Today, the White House Complex includes the Executive Residence, West Wing, East Wing, the Eisenhower Executive Office Building—the former State Department, which now houses offices for the President's staff and the Vice President—and Blair House, a guest residence.
The Executive Residence is made up of six stories—the Ground Floor, State Floor, Second Floor, and Third Floor, as well as a two-story basement. The term White House is regularly used as a metonym for the Executive Office of the President of the United States and for the president's administration and advisers in general. The property is a National Heritage Site owned by the National Park Service and is part of the President's Park. In 2007, it was ranked second on the American Institute of Architects list of America's Favorite Architecture.
Chapter 7: Confederate Spies in Washington, DC
Author James Swanson discusses the constant threat President Lincoln was under during his entire presidency.
Driving Downtown - Washington DC Convention Street 4K - USA
Driving Downtown Streets - 7th Street - Washington DC USA - Episode 52.
Starting Point: .
Downtown is a neighborhood of Washington, D.C., as well as a colloquial name for the central business district of the city. Several important museums, theaters, and a major sports venue are located in the area.
Character, Attractions, and Services
By the 1990s and continuing into the 2010s, the core of the downtown district was almost exclusively commercial, and its primary commercial use was as office buildings. The Penn Quarter and Chinatown areas in particular are home to many bars and restaurants, and the observation deck in the tower of the Old Post Office Pavilion is known for its spectacular views of the city. 7th Street NW between H and F Streets NW—a short commercial strip known as Gallery Place—has become a major hub of bars, restaurants, theaters, and upscale retail shops.
In 1990, the area had about 4,000 residents, but this had increased to 8,449 by 2010. Such increases appear small, but are more significant than they seem because the city's height restrictions limit population density.
The Verizon Center (originally named the MCI Center), a major basketball, hockey, and events venue, opened in the Chinatown neighborhood on the eastern edge of the downtown district in 1997. It proved to be a major attraction, drawing more than 20 million visitors in its first decade of operation.
Height Restriction
Unlike other large cities in the U.S., Washington's downtown has a low skyline. With the advent of the skyscraper and the construction of the Cairo Hotel, residents were concerned that the city's European feel might be dwarfed by high-rise buildings. Congress therefore passed the Heights of Buildings Act in 1899, limiting any new building in Washington to a height of 110 feet (34 m). The act was amended in 1910 to allow buildings 20 feet (6.1 m) higher than the width of the adjacent street.
Museums - International Spy Museum, National Aquarium, National Archives, National Building Museum, National Museum of Women in the Arts, National Portrait Gallery, Newseum, and Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Theaters - Ford's Theatre, National Theatre, Shakespeare Theatre, Warner Theatre, and Woolly Mammoth Theatre.
Restaurants - Fogo de Chão, Kinkead's, Loeb's NY Deli, Old Ebbitt Grill, and Wok 'n' Roll. Chinatown and Gallery Place are noted for being geographically small but also having a very large number of restaurants.
Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, the District, or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. The U.S. Constitution provided for a federal district under the exclusive jurisdiction of the Congress and the District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state.
Economy
Washington has a growing, diversified economy with an increasing percentage of professional and business service jobs. The gross product of the Washington Metropolitan Area was $425 billion in 2010, making it the fourth-largest metropolitan economy in the United States.
Tourism is Washington's second largest industry. Approximately 18.9 million visitors contributed an estimated $4.8 billion to the local economy in 2012. The District also hosts nearly 200 foreign embassies and international organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization of American States, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the Pan American Health Organization. In 2008, the foreign diplomatic corps in Washington employed about 10,000 people and contributed an estimated $400 million annually to the local economy.
The District has growing industries not directly related to government, especially in the areas of education, finance, public policy, and scientific research. Georgetown University, George Washington University, Washington Hospital Center, Children's National Medical Center and Howard University are the top five non-government-related employers in the city as of 2009. According to statistics compiled in 2011, four of the largest 500 companies in the country were headquartered in the District.

The Destruction of Black Washington, DC (Black Men in DC are on Fire)
Thrillist - The Hamilton - Washington, D.C.
Prepare for Chris Christie to throw his enormous hat back in the race, because DC now has 24hr food in a space that can accommodate him, with The Hamilton. Enjoying the 19ft ceilings and 37000sqft of the old Garfinckel's department store, it's joining The Diner and a handful of others in all-day/all-night glory, with mahogany walls covered in 50 original Audubon bird prints, and art installations of toucans and parrots, so get in the mood to state how much you like this piece repeatedly.
Food: Breakfast with two eggs & hanger steak (w/ salsa verde and house-cut fries), lunch on sushi like a roasted tomato/ kiwi Salmon Lover roll, sup on a veal cutlet w/ crispy sweetbreads and potato puree, and then randomly, at like 3:47a, snag mushroom-onion marmalade on roasted marrow, which is presumably good to the bone.
Drink: Housing six different bars (one's secret!), they're pouring 20 drafts (Tröegs HopBack, Port City Porter, Ommegang Hennepin...) and have 12 specialty cocktails like the Aaron Burr (gin/ Italian Amaro/ a flamed orange peel), and a julep (rye, fresh mint, Turbinado sugar) they say will keep you floating, meaning they clearly didn't read that above section that detailed all the heavy food you will be downing.
And in case you want some live music between dinner and your 3:47a marrow, head downstairs for acts (kicking off w/ Mavis Staples) on a stage with state-of-the-art lighting & sound, and in a room with enough space for 400 people. Or if Chris is in town, at least like 390 people.

Go-go music, gentrification collide in DC

GO GO MUSIC...THE DISTINCTIVE DC-SPECIFIC OFFSHOOT OF FUNK...HAS ENDURED FOR DECADES...
SOUNDBITE: (English) Tiffany Richardson, Go-go Fan
It means history. You know It brings in a lot of the community. Try to increase the peace, make it peaceful in the community.
BUT NOW, THE MUSIC HAS TAKEN ON A NEW MANTLE - A BATTLE HYMN FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST A GENTRIFICATION WAVE THAT'S RESHAPING THE DISTRICT.
LONGTIME WASHINGTONIANS FEAR THAT THE DISTRICT'S IDENTITY IS BEING STEADILY ERODED AS DC'S DEMOGRAPHICS SHIFT.
JUST LAST MONTH THE OWNER OF THIS POPULAR MOBILE PHONE STORE IN THE HISTORICALLY BLACK SHAW NEIGHBORHOOD WAS ORDERED TO TURN DOWN THE GO GO.
THE MUSIC HE HAS BEEN PLAYING THROUGH SIDEWALK SPEAKERS FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS.
THE OWNER CLAIMS THE COMPLAINT CAME FROM A RESIDENT OF A NEW APARTMENT BUILDING NEARBY.
SEEMINGLY OVERNIGHT, A PROTEST MOVEMENT AND PETITION DRIVE SPRUNG UP.
UPSOUND (English): MOS, No Name Given
Doesn't bother me none, I mean, I think it's good
UPSOUND (English): MOS, No Name Given
I think it sort of sweeps people up, you know?
WITHIN DAYS THE ORDER WAS REVERSED.
THE MINI-CONTROVERSY WAS OVER ALMOST BEFORE IT STARTED. BUT IT TOUCHED AN OBVIOUS NERVE.
SOUNDBITE (English) Tiffany Richardson, Go-go Fan
I think that was messed up. Because Go Go is DC.
SOUNDBITE: (English): Unidentified musician
It's personal to DC. It's more than just a music. It's just a representation you know of the culture here. It's that real.
MUSICIANS SAY THEY ARE PROUD OF THE WAY THE CITY HAS RALLIED AROUND THEIR ART FORM. THEY PROMISE THAT NO MATTER HOW WASHINGTON CHANGES, THE GO-GO BEAT WILL NEVER STOP. ASHRAF KHALIL...ASSOCIATED PRESS.
====================
STORYLINE:
It's the soundtrack of Chocolate City, the non-federal Washington that has traditionally been a tent pole of black America.
Go-go music, a distinctive DC-specific offshoot of funk, has endured for decades through cultural shifts, fluctuations in popularity and law enforcement purges.
Now go-go has taken on a new mantle: battle hymn for the fight against a gentrification wave that's reshaping the city.
Many longtime Washingtonians fear that culture is being steadily eroded as the city becomes whiter and richer.
A recent controversy over an innocuous noise complaint placed go-go at the center of a perfect storm of gentrification symbolism.
The owner of a popular mobile phone store in the historically black Shaw neighborhood was told to turn off the go-go that he had been playing through sidewalk speakers for more than 20 years. He claims the complaint came from a resident of the gleaming new mixed-used apartment building erected on the next block.
The reaction was fierce.
Seemingly overnight, a protest movement and petition drive sprung up and members of the D.C. Council started weighing in. Within days, the decision was reversed.
The mini-controversy was over almost before it started. But it obviously touched a nerve.
I think that was messed up. Go-go IS DC. Go-Go is our history, said community activist Tiffany Richardson, one of the thousands of fans who turned out on a Tuesday night this month for an outdoor concert/protest featuring go-go mainstays Backyard Band. They're not going to stop go-go.
