10 Reasons Why, You Should Retire In Thailand.
Why are thousands of people retiring to Thailand?
Thailand is one of the most popular countries in the world to retire.
In this video, we give you 10 valid reasons to retire in Thailand.
1. People and Culture.
Thailand has gained its reputation from the amazing warmth and hospitality offered by the local Thai people.
It is one of the few countries in the world not to have been colonized by European powers and is a constitutional monarchy.
About 95% of the population is Buddhist, and the ethics of goodwill, compassion, and calmness are apparent in the everyday life of the Thai people.
There is a high level of respect for the Royal family, monks, prominent public figures and older people.
2. Travel and Adventure.
With its tropical mountains, colourful hill tribe people, vibrant farmlands, intriguing and exotic animal and birdlife, idyllic tropical islands, beautiful temples, and a fascinating history dating back to the 9th century, Thailand offers so much diversity!
Transportation infrastructure is good with travel by car, bus, and train very easy.
Thailand is in the heart of Southeast Asia, meaning that in just over an hour, you can travel to any of the neighbouring countries.
3. Thriving Expat Communities.
Expats are enjoying living throughout Thailand.
You will find many fellow expats in the popular island and coastal locations like Phuket, Koh Samui, and Hua Hin.
Pattaya, Thailand’s ‘Sin City’, has many expats that enjoy an amazing lifestyle.
Sporting activities are prolific, including golf (260 Courses across the country), cycling, tennis, swimming, gymnasiums and fitness centres, fishing, football, lawn bowls, yoga, dancing, walking, and more.
4. Cost of Living in Thailand.
A couple can live a comfortable lifestyle in some northern Thailand destinations from $1,700 a month.
In more popular, tourist locations like Phuket, Koh Samui, and Pattaya, it’s around $2,200.
Another benefit of living in Thailand is that foreigners can buy property with condos, the easiest to own.
Although foreigners cannot own land directly, many buy houses with 30-year extendable leases on the ground the house sits on.
5. Retire Earlier on Less.
Thailand’s excellent cost of living has enabled many people to start their retirement much earlier than they could have if they remained in their home country.
Couples have reported retiring 10 to 15 years earlier than planned.
This has enabled them to travel, explore, and experience the wonders of Thailand with more energy and agility.
6. Quality Healthcare in Thailand.
Thailand has world class, inexpensive healthcare.
Prices are about 30 to 50% of what you might pay in your home country for similar procedures.
And in the majority, there are no waiting times.
More than 50 hospitals have Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, the gold standard for hospital care.
Expats are not able to access the free Thai public hospital system, so it’s recommended to have comprehensive insurance.
7. Support for old age.
In recent years, astute developers have identified a need for age care facilities for both Thai and foreign expats.
Another option is to hire a private nurse or nursing aid and continue living in your own home.
A 24/7 qualified nurse with an acceptable level of English would cost about $12,000 per year, and a full-time carer as little as $3,500 per year.
8. Amazing Food!
Thai cuisine is known around the world for its fresh flavours, spice, and beautiful aromas.
9. Visas.
Although navigating your way through Embassy and Immigration websites can be confusing, the process of securing a Visa for Thailand is relatively simple.
The two types of visas most commonly used for retirees are the Retirement/Long Stay Category, “O A” Visa and the Tourist Visa.
The Retirement Visa allows you to stay in Thailand for one year and is renewable.
A Single or Multi-Entry Tourist Visa may suffice for those planning shorter-term stays.
10. Fantastic Climate!
The climate for Thailand during most of the year is best described as tropical and humid.
There are variances in temperature, humidity, and rainfall between the north and south.
Generally, dress is casual with shorts and shirts or casual dresses, hat, sunglasses, and open shoes the norm.

And So It Begins
Narration Transcript
We try for another 20 minutes to catch a taxi with no success. Steve however was kind enough to offer to detour and pick us up directly from the main Street instead of taking off to Pattaya from his place as what was originally planned.
Unfortunately the detour had Steve drive through the traffic which was even worst today as the rain earlier in the morning caused some flooding. This is something we locals are pretty used to however and we were able to trooper on to Pattaya in good time.
So we arrived a bit early before the main crowds started to show up but this gave me a bit of time to checkout the bar without the hustle and bustle of a special event to get an idea of how it is on a normal night. As the name states, the hideaway bar just seemed like a chill place for you and your buddies to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and chit chat or banter over a decent selection of liquors at a reasonable price. And since we’re all bloggers, guess what we talk about
So sausage rolls and meat pies. Apparently this is an Aussie thing. I can’t say this is worth the 100 baht we paid for it but I was introduced to a novel idea, it satisfied my hunger, and this lady deserves the slight price gauge for hustling in a mobile cart to literally wheel and deal her Thailand made meat pastries.
So an hour into discussing our blogging equipments and chowing down on some sausage rolls, the cavalry rolls in. The main vlogger who hosts a meet up for all his viewers every Wednesday is Kevin who runs his channel Kev-in-Thailand with a royal following of viewers interested in Thailand and the Pattaya scene. Knowing he will be here every Wednesday, they can plan to come out and meet him if they are in town and talk to the guy they follow on youtube that’s convinced them to come out here in the first place. Kevin also has an arrangement with the bar and provides all the attendees free food! I mean what a novel idea? Anyways now on a satisfied full stomach we get started with the more serious stuff.
So now that I’ve had the first Sambucca shot of my life thanks to my good old buddy Warren and probably not the last of the night either at only a 1:50, with our stomachs full and our minds happy, we start getting acquainted with everyone.
Ok so at this point I’ll address the big elephant in the room and that’s how I stand out being a relatively younger asian american amongst a huge crowd of mostly English and Aussie gentlemen. And I’ll be honest with you, I had my reservations and fears about fitting in with a crowd I’ve never associated with but probably not for the reasons you’re thinking. Having worked at a bank for over 13 years I actually feel comfortable amongst an older crowd being that my clients and colleagues were much older than me but being American, coming from a society that’s so up tight about being politically correct and being scrutinized with the microscope of social justice for every statement we make, even in my less politically correct evolved self from the past 2 years out here, these Aussies and English were testing my sensitive American limits of acceptable statements. but at the end of the day I had never had a greater time chit chatting and joking around with these men who were completely accepting of me and with whom we all shared the value of enjoying our life out here in Thailand and wanting to share those experiences through youtube for the benefit of others.
Thanks again guys for checking out the vlog and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the company of these guys because we all met up again in Bangkok for Warren’s Birthday the day after I shot this vlog which will be our next scheduled vlog.
