Huon River Jet Boats Tasmania by Grasshopper Travel
The 35 minute jet boat ride races you along the riverbank, weaving in and out of the forest canopy, over exciting rapids and through 360 degree spins. The jet boat stops at tranquil locations to view Huon Pine and take in the stunning beauty of the area. Platypus and sea eagles can be spotted and even the occasional dolphin comes to visit in the river. Following winter storms, snow can be seen on the surrounding peaks. Commentary is provided by the skilled drivers at various stages along 12 kilometre journey up the river. It is a thrilling ride along an ever-changing riverscape. The Huon River gives a true insight to the rugged beauty and wild rivers of Tasmania's wilderness west coast - but only 35 minutes drive from Hobart. Huon Jet has carried over 100,000 passengers since being established in 1989. Two high-powered jet boats give a smooth and safe ride along the Huon River and through the rapids. Many customers return over and over again to experience the ever changing water levels and weather. The integrated Boat Shed Cafe at the edge of the Huon River provides great coffee and refreshments, breakfast and light meals with stunning views. Sit outside on the balcony or inside in the cooler winter months. Friendly staff provide lots of local information. Canoes and pedal bikes, aqua bikes and canoes are available for hire on a sheltered 500m stretch of the river. Life jackets are provided. Picnic grounds, barbecue facilities and a playground are in the river reserve just next door.
