Subscribe here: - The most beautiful church in the city of Granada, this landmark was built in 1534. Most come here for the spectacular views from the bell tower – especially picturesque at sunset. This historic church was razed by pirates in 1655 and rebuilt with its current baroque facade between 1781 and 1783. Damaged by William Walker’s forces in 1854, it was restored with the current elaborate interior in 1862. Today Catholics come here to see an important image of the Virgen de Fatima. There is a large stone cross in front of the church at the street corner as well as a plaza in front in front of the church.
Nicaragua, set between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, is a Central American nation known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches. Vast Lake Managua and the iconic stratovolcano Momotombo sit north of the capital Managua. To its south is Granada, noted for its Spanish colonial architecture and an archipelago of navigable islets rich in tropical bird life.

NICARAGUA: EXPLORING CENTRAL AMERICA'S extravagant CEMETERY in GRANADA ⚱️
SUBSCRIBE: - Located on the outskirts of colonial Granada is an extravagant cemetery sprawling with grand mausoleums, marble tombs and detailed religious sculptures. Rumored to be Central America’s oldest known cemetery it was used mostly between 1876 and 1922 during the city’s wealthiest years. The cemetery’s wealthiest spared no expense to show off their status even in death.
The cemetery is also the final resting place of six Nicaraguan presidents including the first official president Fruto Chamorro. A large finely sculpted and well landscaped memorial to these former presidents is one of the first you pass by after entering. Adding to the lavishness is an 1880 neoclassical stone building Chapel of Spirits (Capilla de Animas), a scaled version of the French chapel of the same name. Further inside is a scaled version of the Notre Dame cathedral.

In Latin America, every city I visit has a church, so I began to almost not care about any churches. In Leon, however, I visited Iglesia La Merced to climb the roof - the church is the tallest building in Centro area.
There was a boy collecting $1 before climbing the stairs. The stairway was steep and narrow. Finally, the view was clear and the wind was refreshing, but I think it was better in Leon!
