Combine sightseeing with running - try the Tokyo Imperial Palace running route!
◆ ◆ Do you enjoy running? If so, why don't you try the running route around Tokyo Imperial Palace and make some special memories of your Japan trip?
The Imperial Palace running course is suited even for beginners since one lap around the palace is roughly 5 kilometers. The course has a lot of sightseeing spots to offer. The lush greenery is beautiful in every season. Also, there are no traffic lights on the outer circumference, so you can run nonstop. With many support facilities specialized on runners' needs, it's no wonder this is the most popular running route in Tokyo.
◆ ◆ Use a runners station!
If your accommodation or hotel is too far away from the Imperial Palace, or if you don't want to go back to the hotel to take a shower after running, use a runners support facility like JOGLIS! These facilities have lockers and showers, but also offer rental shoes and wear. So, if you suddenly feel like running: no problem!

◆ ◆ Join a running tour: Imperial Palace Tourism Running Tour!
There are many touristic sights in the area around the Imperial Palace. Famous spots are Nijubashi (= the two bridges at one of the entrances of the palace), the historic Sakurada Gate, and Chidori-ga-fuchi, which is one of the most popular cherry blossom viewing spots in Tokyo.
When participating in the Imperial Palace Sightseeing Running Tour you catch two birds with one stone. Stay healthy and do some sightseeing at the same time! English speaking volunteers called OMOTENASHI Runners offer tourism guides for domestic and foreign visitors while running together around the Imperial Palace. They will do their best to show you the best sights and explain the charm of the Imperial Palace.
The Imperial Palace Sightseeing Running Tours will start this spring! For further details, please contact the OMOTENASHI Runner Association of Japan or JOGLIS (mentioned above).

◆ ◆ Are there any rules?
When running around the Imperial Palace please watch out for pedestrians. The course around the palace isn't only for runners. Bikes and pedestrians are allowed, too. The most important rule is regarding the running direction: everyone is running counterclockwise. Since this running course is very popular and a lot of people are running here at every time of the day (and even at night), running in the same directs prevents accidents and bumping into other runners.
Another important thing to know is that there are no running areas at the main sightseeing spots since they tend to be very crowded. One example is Nijubashi Bridge. Of course, it is possible to around these areas - but then you would miss out on the best locations.

◆ ◆ Buy new running shoes
If you want to buy your own running shoes, the best place to go is sporting goods town Kanda Ogawamachi! There are a bunch of shops specialized in sporting goods, so you will definitely find the perfect shoes for your individual needs. S'PORT MIZUNO offers a shoe fitting service. It's a great place to buy good quality shoes from a Japanese brand. Wouldn't that make a great souvenir?

27km and 1,600m elevation gain
Out of the city but still within Tokyo.
Okutama is a mountainous area about 70km west of downtown Tokyo. About 2-3 hours on the train - depending where you are coming from.
It's easy to understand why 95% of Japanese people live on only 5% of the land - the whole place is full of mountains!
In Tokyo today the temperature was up to 37C, but under the cool canopy of the tall cedars it was just fine.
We started at 7:45 and got to the goal by about 2:10.

【TOKYO NOW 2019】Ep7.Fitness With a View: The Imperial Palace Run
With its rich history and beautiful gardens, many people are familiar with the Imperial Palace in Tokyo as both a historical landmark and a major tourist attraction. But over the last 10 years the area has developed a new kind of visitor in the form of runners. Anyone who approaches the place these days will quickly notice athletes and casual joggers alike, taking advantage of the convenient running path that circles the scenic location. With a running station for suiting up into your running gear and a team of Omotenashi (hospitality) running guides to help those who aren’t as familiar with the path and proper etiquette, the 5 kilometer run is both convenient and a lot of fun!
Japan Trip 2014 Tokyo Imperial Palace Running (皇居ランニング)
Tokyo Imperial Palace
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居 Kōkyo, literally, Imperial Residence) is the main residence of the Emperor of Japan. It is a large park-like area located in the Chiyoda area of Tokyo close to Tokyo Station and contains several buildings including the main palace (宮殿 (Kyūden), the private residences of the imperial family, an archive, museum and administrative offices.
It is built on the site of the old Edo castle. The total area including the gardens is 3.41 square kilometres (1.32 sq mi). During the height of the 1980s Japanese property bubble, the palace grounds were valued by some as more than the value of all the real estate in the state of California.

The 5K around the Imperial Palace is a popular running course. If you ever want to go for a jog/run in Tokyo, I highly recommend running there.

Imperial Palace Running Chidorigafuchi Cycling Stroll in Tokyo Japan

From our house to Odaiba - 35km
It was a hot day in Tokyo, but I started early and made it the 35kms to Odaiba.
Took in several famous Tokyo landmarks - Tokyo Dome, Yasukuni Jinja, Tokyo Budokan, Rainbow Bridge...etc.
Adventures at the Tokyo Imperial Palace
I have mixed feelings about the Imperial Palace near Tokyo Station. I've taken friends there about 10 times (in the last three years). Imperial Palace is in all the tour books... and it is a pretty fun place, but some people find the name misleading.
It's a palace, but you won't see any castles. Or super-fancy/historic buildings. The imperial family still lives there and so a lot of the park is closed off to the public (can you imagine if people were walking around your backyard snapping photos of you every day? That would be awkward, right?)
But they have pretty rock walls and moats.
Imperial Palace is also really popular for runners (because it's HUGE) and school teams doing training. Personally, I used to work kind of close to the Imperial Palace, so I would sit on a bench for 2-3 hours (once a week) and draw comics.
If you're in Tokyo... sure, check it out. But if you want to see a huge, pretty castle, you might be out of luck.

Biking completely around the Imperial Palace (Emperors Residence) in Tokyo Japan
On a beautiful crisp winter day in January 2014, I rode completely around the Imperial Palace Grounds and Gardens, the home of the Japanese Royal Family. I also met some nice people (and cute girls!) on the way and got to see some lovely sights. My company, TokyoBikingTours.com offers bicycle tours of this and many other attractions in Tokyo. This route is very popular for runners and bikers and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Tokyo. It is particularly popular during the upcoming cherry blossom festival in April. Most of the old trees that you see lining the bike path are very old cherry trees.
