Panauti Unmatta Bhairab, Bhadrakali & Indreshwor Mahadev Jatra || Panauti || 2076
Jya Punhi (Panauti Jatra) is observed every year during Jestha Sukla Purnima. During nearly ten days, the inhabitants of Panauti celebrate and pay homage to their protecting deities: Indreshwar Mahadev, Bhadrakali, Unmatta Bhairav and Brahmayani. The idols are taken out of their temples, placed in palanquin or ceremonial chariots and carried/pulled in the various quarters of the city according to a prescribed route. On the fourth day of the festival in other words fourteenth day of the bright fortnight, a festival of Duin-ca–nya-ya-ke-gu’ is held in the evening. A team of a priest, a woman and a porter crosses the bridge over Punyamati River to go to make Tanric offerings to Goddess Brahmayani along with Goddess Bhadrakali. This festival is named in honor of the woman team member called ‘duin’. The fifth day of the festival is called Mu-jatra means the main festival. On this day, most of the residents of the Panauti town make the sacrifice of male goats or ducks to Goddesses Brahmayani and Bhadrakali and worship gods and goddesses located inside the town. The sixth day is the full moon day is known as Jya Punhi. The palanquin and chariots bearing various deity figures are taken around the town. The festival is held at Layaku dabali where the chariots of Unmatta Bhairav and Bhadrakali are collided, and later palanquin of Indreshwor Mahadev Is collided with chariot of Bhadrakali symbolising the divine sexual intercourse. Jaya Samvo Historical Place Panauti Nepal Indreshwor Mahadev
Panauti is a historical city found in Nepal, as it was originally a small state given by King Bhupatindra Malla as a dowry to his sister. This town has a population of under 10,000 people and a few prominent icons, such as the Indreswor temple and Durbar square found in the town center. At the end of the 13th Century, Panauti was finally integrated into the unified kingdom of Nepal, along with Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur, which are all former capital cities of the Kathmandu valley. Panauti, consists of a variety of Buddhist and Hindu religious monuments, and is considered to be one of the area's most important medieval sites.[1]
Panauti is quaint and interesting destination of Nepal. It feels as if has been left exactly the way the founders had built the town. A nostalgic atmosphere covers the narrow town streets and ancient structures. It is known as a Newari town that is located near Roshi khola & Punyamata Khola. Panauti can be easily reach from Kathmandu, which is at a distance of 32 km south-east. The Information Technology Park, country's only Information Technology Park is situated in between Banepa & Panauti

Panauti historical place
Panauti is one of the oldest towns in Nepal, consisting of many temples that are still present till this day dating back to the 15th Century or earlier. It has been debated that Panauti was founded by Ananda Malla (1274-1310BC), others believe that there is a golden scripture dated 1385, which is located within the Indreshwar temple stating that King Harisingh Dev founded the town.
The Indreshwar temple is one of the largest and tallest pagoda style temples in Nepal. It was originally built over a lingam in 1294, making it the oldest surviving temple of Nepal. The roof struts embellishing the two lower stories of the temple are distinct Nepalese wood-carving and architecture. The upper section of the temple is hung with pots and pans, offerings from young married couples hoping for a happy and prosperous family life. Unfortunately, the 1998 earthquake caused considerable damage and the building is still awaiting for restoration.
Other than this temple, there is also the king’s palace, which has yet to be excavated to a larger extent in order to reveal more about Panauti. Nevertheless, there are many artifacts and remnants such as stone taps, bricks, water wells and coins found among some of the excavated sections of the palace.
Although , Panauti was founded independently, as time went on the influence of Bhaktapur (an ancient Newar town in the east corner from Kathmandu) increased and later became part of Bhaktapur up until the 18th Century. In 1763, King Prithvi Narayan Shah annexed Panauti to the larger and greater Nepal.
