What It's Like to Cruise Alaska's Inside Passage
The sights of Alaska are unlike anything else in the United States, including untouched wilderness, massive glaciers and mountains, and diverse and abundant wildlife such as brown bears and bald eagles.
Inside Passage with the Alaska State Ferry
Because of mechanical problems, a three day trip turns into a 6 day trip, from Bellingham WA to Skagway AK, August 2015. A beautiful trip, nevertheless.

This covers the scenic inside passage footage.
The Inside Passage (French: Passage Intérieur) is a coastal route for ships and boats along a network of passages which weave through the islands on the Pacific NW coast of North America. The route extends from southeastern Alaska, in the United States, through western British Columbia, in Canada, to northwestern Washington state, in the United States. Ships using the route can avoid some of the bad weather in the open ocean and may visit some of the many isolated communities along the route. The Inside Passage is heavily travelled by cruise ships, freighters, tugs with tows, fishing craft and ships of the Alaska Marine Highway, BC Ferries, and Washington State Ferries systems.
The term Inside Passage is also often used to refer to the ocean and islands around the passage itself.

Holland America Line automatically adds $11.50 per person, per day, to onboard accounts ($12 per person, per day, for passengers in suites). This is then shared among waiters, stewards and other service personnel. That amount can be adjusted in either direction by visiting the front desk. A 15 percent gratuity is tacked on to bar bills. Note that gratuities are not automatically included on bills for spa treatments. There are typically two formal nights on seven-night cruises.

Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is a United States national park and preserve in the Alaska panhandle west of Juneau. President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the area around Glacier Bay a national monument under the Antiquities Act on February 25, 1925.[3] Subsequent to an expansion of the monument by President Jimmy Carter in 1978, the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) enlarged the national monument by 523,000 acres (2116.5 km²) on December 2, 1980 and in the process created Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve,[4] with 57,000 additional acres (230.7 km²) of public land designated as national preserve to the immediate northwest of the park in order to protect a portion of the Alsek River and related fish and wildlife habitats while allowing sport hunting. Take Action for Alaska's Tongass National Forest
Public Comments Due by Tuesday December 17
To Take Action:
More than a million visitors from all around the world come to Southeast Alaska's Inside Passage each year, making tourism the biggest business in the region. And AdventureSmith's travelers on our many varied Alaska trips return each year in awe of the wilderness, solitude and intact ecosystems. Much of this is thanks to the 17-million-acre Tongass National Forest, 9 million acres of which are protected from clear-cut logging and roads under the 2001 Roadless Rule.
The U.S. Forest Service, however, under urging from politicians who are out of touch with Southeast Alaska's modern-day economy and the wishes of the majority of its residents, is planning to strip Roadless Rule protections, which would open up those protected lands for roads, clearcut logging and industrial development. That would not only damage tourism in this incredible place but also threaten future generations' ability to experience one of America's last truly wild landscapes.
Join AdventureSmith Explorations and many of our travelers in taking action to defend the Tongass National Forest.
We are proud to partner with SalmonState, UnCruise Adventures, Transformational Travel Council, The Boat Company, Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) and Pioneer Studios on this film.

DRIVE that RV onto a FERRY, and CRUISE Alaska's Inside Passage!!!
Come aboard, and take a full tour of the Malaspina, an AMHS ferry, as we travel from Prince Rupert to Juneau through Alaska’s Inside Passage. It’s not as luxurious as a cruise ship, but it was a lot of fun, and we got to take along our minivan and motorhome. (We’ll even show you the car deck where those were stored!)
Alaska - The Inside Passage- 2013
Just a very short video showing some of the beautiful scenery of the Inside Passage up in Alaska. I didn't take a lot of video, because I was spending my time drooling and taking photos...lol
Inside Passage to Alaska
Inside Passage to Alaska was included in Photograph America's newsletter #120.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Recorded June 18, 2007.
Ketchikan is the southeasternmost sizable city in the state of Alaska. With an estimated population of 7,368 in 2007, it is the fifth most populous city in the state. The city is known as the Salmon Capital of the World. Ketchikan is named after Ketchikan Creek, which flows through the town. With an average annual rainfall of 152 inches, Ketchikan has the heaviest average rainfall in North America. Ketchikan has the highest ZIP code in the United States, 99950.
This video begins as we sail into the harbor on the Sapphire Princess. Once off the ship a head for Creek Street, a row of wooden buildings perched over the water on pilings, which is not a street at all, this boardwalk winds along Ketchikan Creek and was once the locale for all the area's brothels.

Backing music by Nuertful , a version of 'One Directions' - ''They Don't Know About Us'' Nuetful has a great channel on Youtube . You can more of his music there. The journey to Sitka alaska is like no other port I can think of for sheer grandeaur , before you arrive to the beautiful Sitka, sailing in the footsteps of Captain Cook . Cruising through Alaska’s Inside Passage and passing close to the extinct volcano of Mount Edgecumbe named by Captain Cook in 1778. An unexpected benefit of Alaska Cruise For Dummies, Sitka faces the Gulf of Alaska, and is on Baronof Island .
Sitka , Alaska .One of the highlights of an Alaska Cruise , Sitka once the capital of Russian America and formerly known as New Archangel while under Russian Rule.
Sitka Alaska was initially settled by the Tlingit Indians.
The Kiksadi Clan of the Tlingit Indians chose what is now called Baranof Island as their home, establishing a community at what is present-day Sitka. The Tlingits lived undisturbed until 1799, when Russian explorers arrived in Alaska and Alexander Baranof, Manager of the Russian-American Company, built a fort a few miles to the north. After a series of clashes, the Tlingits attacked and destroyed the Russian outpost in 1802. But Baranof retaliated and soon pushed the natives from the area. The Russians renamed the settlement New Archangel. The Russian Orthodox Church spread its influence into the area and built fortress-like structures on a hilltop overlooking the shoreline.
Rich wildlife resources in Alaska allowed the Russian-American Company to flourish - for a time it was the most profitable fur trader in the world. .
In 1867, the United States purchased Alaska from the Russians for $7.2 million. The transfer ceremony occurred in Sitka Alaska . Today, the Sitka culture is a blend of Tlingit, Russian and American. Certainly a unexpected benefit of Alaska Cruises, and no of Alaska Cruise Holiday for Dummies.

Skagway Alaska Travel Tips Alaska Cruises Ports
Skagway, Alaska is located at the upper end of the Inside Passage. Packable Backpack Skagway was a jumping off port for the Klondike Gold Rush, dating back to 1897. The town grew from a handful to 10,000 overnight as prospectors headed to the gold fields in search of fame and fortune. Most of Skagway's downtown is preserved and maintained so you can get a real sense of the 1890's. The White Pass and Yukon Narrow Gauge Railway departs from Skagway, and follows the Trail of '98. Flight seeing, helicopter sightseeing, kayaking, ziplining, sled dog rides, and fishing are among the great activities to try in Skagway. Skagway is a popular port of call for cruises to Alaska.
