Ipoh, Malaysia (April 2010) -
About 120 Ipohites from the private and public sectors involved in promoting Ipoh as a tourist destination are participating in a familiarity tour of Old Ipoh on April 25.
The tour, commencing at the Ipoh Town Hall at 8.00 a.m., will visit a total of 24 heritage buildings located within the perimeter of Club Road (Jalan Dato Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab), Post Office Road (Jalan Dewan), Clayton Road (Jalan S.P. Seenivasagam) and Belfield Street (Jalan Sultan Yussuf).
The event, jointly organised by the Perak Tourism Association and Tourism Malaysia, will launch the Ipoh Heritage Trail Map 1 that covers the North-Western portion of Ipoh Inner City. Produced by Kinta Heritage Sdn Bhd, this map represents the first of four that together will cover the whole of the Old City centre. This and the other maps to follow are intended to be used as tools to encourage tourists to visit Ipohs heritage sites.
The organisers, recognising the need for those involved in promoting tourist attractions to be very well informed of the products they promote, will during the tour provide an in-depth briefing of the history and architecture of each of the heritage buildings and the locality.

The Ipoh heritage walk is the perfect iconic place to make memories. It’s where old colonial charm meets modern contemporary lifestyles. The British had a strong influence during Perak’s tin mining boom. That’s why you’ll find beautiful old colonial structures reminiscent of the city’s prosperous past. One of the most fascinating places I’ve been to is the Ipoh cave temples. Chinese Buddhists found Ipoh’s limestone cliffs to be the ideal environment for a temple. Its interiors aren’t like any Buddhist temples you’ve seen, exuding a mysterious and wondrous vibe with religious bronze decorations surrounded by stalagmites and stalactites.
Drink white coffee from the same kopitiam where they claim the brew originated! This iconic drink is a brand on its own; the amazing beverage will please any coffeeholic with its rich aromatic and slightly charred acidic sweet aftertaste.
They also serve egg tarts and dry curry noodles. The egg tarts were just okay, and we didn’t get to try the curry noodles because we were already full.

Kek Lok Tong Cave
Perak's finest colonial architecture stands side by side with rickety kedai kopi (coffee shops) in chameleonic Ipoh. The capital of Perak is flanked by towering white cliffs, some with magnificent cave temples pocketed in the limestone. Sliced into old and new towns by the Kinta River, Ipoh charms with its street art and street food – rather like a languid version of George Town.
Ipoh is more than a gateway to the Cameron Highlands or a way station en route to Penang. Shaped by the 1920s tin-mining boom, Ipoh's wealth and population ebbed away after the mines' closure. But an old-town renaissance has revived its time-worn buildings into boutiques, hotels and gorgeously kitsch cafes.
Food is reason enough to visit. Malaysian and Singaporean gastronomes arrive in droves for Ipoh's tauge ayam (chicken bean sprouts) and to argue over who serves the best kopi putih – white coffee, the town's signature drink.

Wikipedia - Ipoh is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Perak. Located by the Kinta River, it is nearly 180 km (110 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur and 123 km (76 mi) southeast of George Town in neighbouring Penang. As of 2010, Ipoh contained a population of 657,892, making it the third largest city in Malaysia by population.
The Old Town is west of the Kinta River. There is a vibrant commercial district with many historical 'shop-houses' centred around Leech Street (Chinese: 烈治街; now Jalan Bandar Timah). Other notable features include :
- Ipoh railway station in neo-classical/Edwardian Baroque style nicknamed the Taj Mahal of Ipoh.
- Ipoh Town Hall, an Edwardian Baroque municipal building located across the road from the Railway Station.
- Padang Ipoh or Ipoh Field is on Jalan S.P. Seenivasagam. The field is surrounded by historic buildings that feature classic colonial architecture, including the mock-Tudor style Ipoh Club, FMS Bar, HSBC Building and the St Michael's Institution secondary school.
- The Anglo-Chinese School, Ipoh, officially named SMK Methodist (ACS), is located along Lahat Road.
- Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Anderson is the most well-known secondary school with more than 100 years of history, located beside the General Hospital of Ipoh. This school has been producing numerous of figures in the country.
- St. Michael's Institution, Ipoh, is a public secondary school in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. It is situated on Jalan S. P. Seenivasagam, formerly Clayton Road.

It now has different restaurants, souvenir and gift shops and an entirely respectable hotel. To some locals, Concubine Lane is already becoming too busy.
- Ipoh wall art murals drawn by talented street art artists clearly breathes in new life into Ipoh Old Town city. The murals do relive a sense of nostalgic moments related to Ipoh’s heritage and culture. It is now a popular tourist attraction, adding more crowns to Ipoh apart from being a food paradise.
- Birch Memorial Clock Tower is a popular historical landmark which is located near the Ipoh State Mosque or commonly known as Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque. The clock tower was built to commemorate James W. W. Birch, the first British Resident in Perak who was killed on 2 November 1875 at Pasir Salak.

$ Ipoh Millionaires $
Welcome to Malaysia, this is Johnson your local tour guide for JohnsonMalaysia.com. Today I'm introducing one of the Tin mine city nicknamed ‘city of millionaires’. Indeed, there were and are millionaires here. They in the pass strike a big fortune in the end 1800s and early 1900s. Tin price when rocketed high seems every tin owners strike jack pot
lottery tickets.
Today, many Kuala Lumpur tycoon’s grandfather had their glorious days in Ipoh one of them is the owner of the Sunway group of companies. Ipoh culturally closely related to with Malay land owners, Chinese Hakka, Indian money lender each made important contributions. This has made them to buy valuable items. As time when by Ipoh is not as it used to be since the London Tin exchange collapsed. Now the items of the pass have become collectors items. My dad Mr. Sisrajah was a coin collector as I recall my childhood days he had a huge collection of coins.
Pasar Karat
Pasar Karat means rusty or rusticated market rest assure this is aren’t any junk, but high value to the eyes that sees the value in them. My first stop is Mr Robert an 30 years’ experience metal Antique trader. Watch the video to see his Japanese Dutsun 120Y if I’m not mistaken. It looks like going to collapse. He is a friendly chap.
Rare Cast Iron Pot
As I was talking to him a Chinese man (ah Keong nickname), I believe Ah Keong is a collector was keen on an Old Cast Iron Pot. Robert told Ah Keong saw the item and went on but return after an hour realising the value of this rare pot, it was tagged at RM 500.00. Since I’m not a collector, I may not want to invest on that much for an old pot. Some of my friends willing to buy a T shirt for RM1500.00 collector items. I guess this a part I’m not familiar with.
World War Two WW2 Bonnet
Then Robert showed some of the WW2 items one of it was a Bonnet / Knife from 1942 intact with its cover. WW2 Japanese Samurai I wonder how many head was taken by this sword. There many to say, but I recommend you book a tour with JohnsonMalaysia.com for Ipoh which in general well known for food. Many Singaporean come to taste local Dim Sum, Tauge Chicken.
Keris Malay Dagger
Keris is an import weapon in the Malay culture, it is equal to a soul of the carrier or owner. I met with a seller hear a fine gentle trading wonderful item had a collection of Keris of Luk 3, 5 and 9. This Keris in the Malay world believe to have mystical powers. He also was selling an item that really interested me a bicycle lamp using Carbide gas as fuel. Beside that old telephone, Vintage Trumpet, Horn Gramophone record player. Vintage Telephone. Etc
Precious Stone and watches
In the Malay culture man are not allowed to wear much gold on their body, hence the are allow to use other metals and precious and semiprecious I met an Indian Muslim who are specoust in making a ring embedded with stone, If you a vintage watch collector there many here too.
