Ipoh, Malaysia - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Ipoh
Top best places to visit in Ipoh, Malaysia
Ipoh is one of the country’s largest cities, it lies on the west coast of the Malaysian peninsula.
It used be called the City of Millionaires referring to the fortunes made during the tin rush.
You can see splendid architecture around the Old Town.
The best examples are the Court House, the Town Hall,
And the Railway Station, dubbed “Taj Mahal of Ipoh”.
Nearby the Station Square are the Birch Memorial Clocktower, a popular tourist spot,
And the State Mosque.
There are not many landmarks in the city center but there are some interesting buildings worth seeing, like:
Darul Ridzuan Museum,
The Old Federal Building,
St. Michael's Institution,
And several more.
Many Malaysian cities have a large green area in the center.
Padang Ipoh is such a place that around it there are couple of historic and religious buildings.
This is also a good place to play sports.
Very nice place for a walk, especially at night, is Kinta Riverfront.
Just next to it is Dr. Seenivasagam Park, a perfect place for relaxation.
A little outside the city center is Perak Cave Temple.
This Chinese temple houses over 40 Buddha statues,
Including, the tallest and largest Buddha statue in Malaysia, standing almost 13 m high.
And from the top of the Rock, in which the temple was carved,
There is a nice view over both sides of the city.

Inside Ipoh Parade, 2016
Ipoh is the state capital of Perak, on the west coast of peninsular Malaysia. It is the country's fourth largest city and a gateway to the Cameron Highlands.
Ipoh (Chinese: 怡保; pinyin: Yí bǎo Tamil: ஈப்போ) developed into one of Malaysia's main cities due to an early 19th century tin mining boom. During the British colonial era, it was Malaya's second administrative centre after Kuala Lumpur (the Straits Settlements of Singapore, Penang and Malacca were administered separately).
A post-independence economic decline let the city escape the towers of concrete that represent 1970s ideas of progress and its colonial importance still shines in the grand old buildings, such as the railway station and the town hall, which complement the rows of shophouses.
These days Ipoh is perhaps best known for its excellent restaurants, hawkers, and famous local dishes.
Streets were renamed in the 1980s. This can still be confusing as many locals still refer to the former colonial road names. The following list showing the old and new names is useful: Ipoh road names - old and new
Ipoh features a tropical rainforest climate. Temperatures are about the same throughout the year, showing little variation. The city's average temperature is 28 degrees Celsius. Ipoh sees high precipitation throughout the year with an average of 200 mm of rain each month and averaging 2427.9 mm of rain per year. The wettest month is October where on average 297.2 mm of rain is seen. Ipoh's driest month is January which has 132.3 mm of rain fall on average.

High drama in Ipoh
The vicinity of the Perak state secretariat building today was gripped with high drama for about four hours as Pakatan Rakyat tried to convene an emergency state assembly sitting.
From the wee hours, police have been manning roadblocks leading to both the front and rear entrance to the building, where the state assembly is housed.
Rush hour traffic was brought to a crawl and students were seen running to a nearby school as their parents could only drop them at a roadblock.
Other than the heavy police presence, little was out of the ordinary until a group of some 30 burly men started to shout profanities at some 100 Pakatan supporters gathered near the state secretariat building.
The Pakatan supporters backed off slightly, but that didnt stop the group of aggressive men, though vastly outnumbered, from shouting profanities.

Asam laksa[edit]
A bowl of Penang laksa, a variant of Asam laksa.
Asam laksa is a sour, fish and tamarind-based soup. Penang Asam Laksa listed at number 26th on World's 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN Go in 2011.[13] Asam is the Malay word for any ingredients that makes a dish tastes sour (e.g. tamarind, gelugur or kokum). Laksa typically uses asam keping, known as kokum in the English speaking world, which is a type of dried slices of sour mangosteens. The modern Malay spelling is asam, though the spelling assam is still frequently used.
The main ingredients for asam laksa include shredded fish, normally kembung (small mackerel of the Rastrelliger genus), and finely sliced vegetables including cucumber, onions, red chillies, pineapple, lettuce, common mint, daun kesum (Vietnamese mint or laksa mint) and pink bunga kantan (torch ginger). Asam laksa is normally served with either thick rice noodles or thin rice noodles (vermicelli). And topped off with petis udang or hae ko (蝦膏), a thick sweet prawn/shrimp paste.[1]
Variants of asam laksa include:
Penang laksa (Malay: Laksa Pulau Pinang), also known as asam laksa from the Malay for tamarind, comes from the Malaysian island of Penang. It is made with mackerel (ikan kembung) soup and its main distinguishing feature is the asam or tamarind which gives the soup a sour taste. The fish is poached and then flaked. Other ingredients that give Penang laksa its distinctive flavour include lemongrass, galangal (lengkuas) and chilli.

Mee Jawa (sometimes called Jawa Noodles or Mi Jawa) is a traditional Malaysian dish made up of yellow egg noodle drenched in blended sweet potato base with tomato sauce and prawn stock. It is a famous dish among Malaysians, Indonesians and Singaporeans. The famous stalls are located within the states of Malaysia called Penang and Sarawak.[1]
Origin[edit]
The origin of Mee Jawa is not definite. The belief thus far states that it was created by the Javanese community during the early 19th century in Malaysia.[2][3] Mee Jawa was such an incredible dish that mobile hawkers sold it by carrying two baskets with long wooden sticks on their shoulder and cycling by bicycle from one place to another. Not to mention Malaysia has tropical weather which sometimes has drastic heatwaves from time to time. Despite that , this dish was still sold anyhow.[4]
