Iron Horse Ranch and Vineyard Dam Removal on Green Valley Creek
Prunuske Chatham, Inc. in collaboration with Streamline Engineering removes a historic dam structure in Green Valley Creek near town of Sebastopol in Sonoma County, CA.
This project is funded by California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Fisheries Restoration Grant Program and is managed by grant recipient Gold Ridge Resource Conservation District. Removal of a dam structure and installation of large wood debris will restore natural flow conditions through the channel reach, allow for the unimpeded passage of adult and juvenile salmonids, and provide habitat during high and low flow conditions.
This project is a part of a larger effort to improve streamflow and wildlife habitat conditions in Green Valley: In the coming years, Gold Ridge RCD and Iron Horse Ranch and Vineyard will continue their partnership by constructing an off-channel winter refuge habitat project on the vineyard property.

Located in beautiful Mendocino County, this vineyard property consists of 197 total acres and is home to 7 different varietals of wine grapes. Nestled against the hills in the northwestern portion of Redwood Valley with nearly 125 planted acres of Redwood Valley AVA vineyard, the ranch boasts over 53 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, 8 acres of Chardonnay, 14 acres of Gewurztraminer, 13 acres of Merlot, 30 acres of Sauvignon Blanc, 6 acres of Syrah, and 1 acre of Primitivo. All of the vines have been planted after 1998, with over 28 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and 9 acres of Sauvignon Blanc planted or t-budded between July and September 2015. The property’s irrigation needs are serviced via 4 state water permits allowing for the diversion of 330 acre feet of water per year from seasonal creeks that traverse the land; the ranch also has 3 ag ponds, 1 domestic well, and two Redwood Valley Irrigation District water hook-ups. The ranch has standing grape contracts with two major Sonoma county wineries for all of its grapes; except those that were planted in 2015. Additionally, there is a 100+ year old Victorian home on site, a manufactured home, potential for a hillside home site, a shop, and multiple outbuildings utilized for maintaining the vineyard. This vineyard property is being offered in three separate, legal parcels or as the entire 197-acre ranch.
