Johnson discusses the region’s winemaking traditions with Stephen Kautz, President of Ironstone Vineyards. Kautz, a true insider, explains why the area in and around Murphys creates some of the country’s best grape-growing conditions. Kautz takes us on a virtual tour of Ironstone’s operation as well as some of his favorite places to visit in Gold Country.
Conours d'Elegance
One of the first big events of fall took place Sept. 28 at Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys -- the Concours d'Elegance. It's a huge fundraiser featuring dozens of the most beautiful classic cars you've ever seen. It showcases cars from the 1890s through the 60s. There were race cars and vintage travel trailers as well. Money raised from the event benefits 4-H Clubs, Future Farmers of America and the California State Fair Scholarship Fund.
The gala luncheon featured an auction and a few words from former Secretary of Agriculture Ann Veneman, who talked about her own history with 4H.
Thanks to Ironstone Vineyards owners Gail and John Kautz for putting on this fabulous event once again.

Was walking my dog down the street and ran into this musical distraction. Very good little band called Murphy's echo. They are from Mt. Eden Ky. I think. They play bluegrass, mountain, and gospel. One song I thought I was recording and didn't realize I didn't hit the record button til after it was over. And I did a lot of good camera work too. Seems the best stuff is gone forever. Oh well, I'm sure someone else will get to hear it in another venue they play. But my camera work is gone so you can only see my amateurish camera work of a very good little band. If anyone wants to hire this band they can be contacted by email at skertiegunk.msn . I
