This space gives you a sense of freedom.
There are two fountainheads with different spring water qualities.
Both are smooth and feel as if they adhere to your skin.
Local people are quite familiar with this “BIHADA NO YU” (Waters of Beautiful Skin).
You might end up unintentionally staying in the bath for a long time gazing at the snow remaining on the Yakeishi Mountains.
And now it’s time to enjoy the evening meal.
The ingredients used are harvested locally.
This o-mochi (rice cakes) is called “JUNE-MOCHI.”
“JUNE” is from the local dialect for “wild sesame” grain. It is one of the local specialties.

Oshu TABI ROMAN #26〜Taking a drive through Oshu in the Autumn〜
【explanation】
This season, let HATTO-KUN, the mascot for “OSHU HATTO” guide the senior generation on a tour of recommended sites for Oshu in the autumn.
You find where to enjoy MOMIJI-GARI (maple viewing) and where to find one of Oshu’s specialties, HATTO (a type of soup with flour dumplings in it), as well as some historical sites and hot springs to complete your journey.
【narration】
Hello. I’m HATTO-KUN, the mascot for “Oshu HATTO (a type of soup with flour dumplings in it).”
If you are heading west, I’ve got the perfect trip for the senior generation to make by car.
First head to the “OSHU-KO CHOBODAI (Lake Oshu Tower).”
You can enjoy the scenic Yakeishi Mountains and MOMIJIGARI (maple viewing) around Isawa Dam.
This weekend should offer the best viewing.
From Isawa Dam, head east on Route 397 for about 30 minutes.
Have some lunch at “OFUKURO.”
I recommend the “Dam Gozen.”
You can dine on five different types of Oshu’s specialty, HATTO, including soup and Azuki beans.
“Most of the ingredients used come from right here in the Tanko region. We are proud of the healthy meals we provide.”
Keep going east towards Mizusawa.
The city scape once prospered as a castle town of 16,000 KOKU (a unit of measurement roughly 150kg).
One of the samurai residences is the former home of one of Oshu’s famous son’s, Shinpei Goto.
The simple layout features an earthen floor, reception room, and shed where the peaceful lifestyle of the past can be remembered.
The BUKE JUTAKU (Samurai Residence) Reference Center is nearby. In addition to maps of Mizusawa Castle, tools and other items used by warriors and peasants in their daily lives are on exhibit. It is a good chance to learn about history.
After getting tired from all that walking, the best thing to do is to head for the ONSEN (hot springs).
This is SAKURA-NO-YU, part of Isawa River Hot Springs.
In addition to a large bath and open-air bath, you can also choose from a free-flowing cypress bath or Jacuzzi-style.
Go to the Mizusawa Tourist Promotion Center, Z-Plaza ATERUI to pick up some souvenirs.
You’ll find many specialties, as well as tourist information.
