Cayo Ratones es una pequeña isla situada cerca de la Laguna de Joyuda en Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. La isla es un lugar ideal para la practica del Snorkeling. Se puede llegar en botes y en kayak. Hermoso lugar para compartir en familia.

The Island was originally known as Piñas or Piñero Island, or Pineapple Island.[1] In the past the island was used to cultivate pineapple and Sugar cane crops.[1] Later on for years the island was abandoned and was practically a dumpster, because of which the residents of Joyuda began referring to it as Isla de los Ratones or Island of the Mice, because of the amount of rodents that inhabited the island.[1]
During half of the twentieth century, the then owner of the Cerveceria India, Don Alfonso Valdés Cobián was one of the people in charge of the Island. During this time he began cleaning up the small isle.[1]
In 1988, the island was sold to MTV, who organized a fantasy island sweepstakes promoted by Cyndi Lauper. After several protests, nothing more was heard from MTV.[2]
Now the custodians of the Island are the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources (DRNA) and Tourmarine a private tourist company.[1] They have a cooperative agreement to help in the cleaning and trash collecting because of the DRNA lack of personnel.[1]

Explorando Nuestra Isla - Isla de Ratones Cabo Rojo P.R.
Isla de los Ratones esta ubicada en el oeste de Puerto Rico, para llegar en necesario en lancha o bote.
En el pasado la isla se utilizó para el cultivo de piña y los cultivos de caña de azúcar, sin embargo esta isla fue abandonada y fue usada como basurero por lo cual la comenzaron a llamas la Isla de los Ratones por la cantidad de roedores que ahi habitaban.
Posteriormente la entidad del gobierno de preservar el medio ambiente y ecologico de Puerto Rico, se ha tomado en la tarea de limpiar y resstructurar la isla, con la finalidad de convertirse en un punto turistico unico como la mayoria de los lugares de Puerto Rico.

La Isla de Ratones como se le conoce actualmente a la Isla de Piñero, está localizada en la costa de la localidad de Joyuda, en el municipio de Cabo Rojo, al oeste de Puerto Rico.
