Island of Zanzibar
Best Documentary 2016 Island Of Zanzibar [Top Documentary]
Zanzibaris a semi-autonomous part of Tanzania in East Africa. It is composed of the Zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 kilometres (16–31 mi) off the coast of the mainland, and consists of many small islands and two large ones:
Unguja (the main island, referred to informally as Zanzibar) and Pemba. The capital is Zanzibar City, located on the island of Unguja. Its historic centre is Stone Town, which is a World Heritage Site.
Zanzibar's main industries are spices, raffia, and tourism. In particular, the islands produce cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper. For this reason, the islands, together with Tanzania's Mafia Island,
are sometimes called the Spice Islands (a term also associated with the Maluku Islands in Indonesia). Zanzibar is the home of the endemic Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey, the Zanzibar Servaline Genet, and the (possibly extinct) Zanzibar Leopard.

Ruins of Kilwa Kisiwani and Ruins of Songo Mnara ???????? Tanzania
The remains of the two large East African ports, Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara, are located on two small islands near the coast. From the 13th to the 16th century, the Kilwa merchants traded gold, silver, pearls, perfumes, Arab crockery, Persian terracotta and Chinese porcelain; so much of the Indian Ocean trade passed into their hands.

Over the Islands of Africa -- Zanzibar
The sounds of their names alone conjure up thoughts of pristine beaches, spices and the tales of a thousand and one nights. The five-part documentary series Over the Islands of Africa follows five internationally renowned photographers as they explore the islands around Africa -- Zanzibar, Mauritius, Madagascar, São Tomé & Príncipe and Cape Verde.
The photographers stop at nothing in pursuit of spectacular perspectives for their aerial photographs, stories and portraits, making use of unusual means of transport, from a motorised parachute to a flying rubber boat that can land on land as well as water.
Photographer Matthias Ziegler is an Africa specialist. He has visited nearly every country on the continent on assignments for international agencies. Zanzibar, however, is new territory for him. He's come to the former slave island for a photo book -- and this time he's not alone. To see the Tanzanian archipelago from the air, he has enlisted the services of ultralight pilot Richard Meredith-Hardy of England to fly him around in his FIB, or flying inflatable boat. Perfect conditions for an adventurous journey: as a world champion ultralight pilot, Richard and his FIB can take off and land practically anywhere -- in theory.
Their expedition begins on a dhow, the typical sailboat of East Africa. There Matthias meets the most famous singer in Zanzibar, the centenarian Bi Kidude, who sings a mysterious love song for him. Meanwhile Richard can't land at the airfield in the capital Stone Town because the front wheel of his flying dinghy won't latch into place. Instead he opts for a water landing off the nearby island of Chumbe. There they finally meet after a series of detours -- and stumble across Matthias' first motif: swimming lessons for Muslim schoolgirls. They've never seen the ocean from below before.
The search for subjects leads Matthias and Richard from the old city of Stone Town and Nungwi to Zanzibar's largely untouched sister island of Pemba. They encounter boat makers and Sufi singers; discover flying foxes, an endemic bat species; and taste the prized cloves cultivated by 108 year-old Aladi.
Matthias' speciality is portraits. It's important to him to capture the pride of the Zanzibaris in pictures. He goes to great lengths to win the locals' trust, at one point even braving shark-infested waters. For his part, Richard does his utmost to give Matthias the opportunity to find extraordinary perspectives from the air. And he does so in the face of stiff resistance -- from storm fronts, gale-force winds and sometimes Tanzanian bureaucracy.
On their adventurous journey they explore the spice island archipelago to its farthest reaches -- by land, by water and in the air. A journey full of extraordinary encounters, tricky situations and spectacular photographs. Director Thomas Wartmann and his team were on hand with their camera.

Just another Day in Paradise... Zanzibar and Mafia Island trip
Zanzibar Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Zanzibar in Tanzania.
Zanzibar is a paradise-like island just off the Tanzanian coast. An island of spice and exotic aromas, sultans' palaces, harems, shining white beaches and fiery red sunsets.
The ancient oriental city of Zanzibar derived its name from its many old stone buildings. Charming and mysterious, they have witnessed much of the island's dramatic past and the tangled architecture of coral stone and shell lime serves as a fascinating backdrop to this colorful city that is strongly influenced by an Arabian way of life.
In the north of the old town is one of the island's most beautiful buildings, the Ismali Dispensarium. It was built by a wealthy Indian businessman and was originally a hospital with an adjoining pharmacy. Today it contains a cultural centre.
The house of the infamous Tippu Tip, who was once Zanzibar's biggest slave trader, has not yet been restored. He was an extremely unpleasant man who sent his servants into the African bush to catch slaves who were later sold in Zanzibar. Livingstone House was built in 1861. The famous missionary and explorer once resided there prior to going on his final expedition. He was frequently the guest of Tippu Tip who offered Dr. Livingstone various maps that were based upon his slave routes.
A tropical paradise just off the African coast with the flair of the Orient, historic architecture and the colors of Africa. Zanzibar is most assuredly a legendary and fairy-tale island of global culture.

THIS IS MAFIA ISLAND | TANZANIA
Mafia Island is an incredible destination. Whether you want to swim with massive whale sharks, scuba dive in beautiful waters, or relax all day with the sound of the ocean, Mafia has it all.
We stayed at Big Blu Dive Center in Utende, and we saw the whale sharks in Kilindoni, which is where the airport is.
A separate travel guide video is coming soon!
The second half of the video is shot on Chole Island, which is a short boat ride away from Mafia. It's a pretty unique cultural experience that's worth the trip.

Africa - Colours of the Dark continent Vacation Travel Video Guide
Africa’s culture has been enriched by the proud and famous Massai, a noble tribe of herdsmen and the spacious plains of Kenya and Tanzania are their homeland. As the Massai did not tolerate foreign hunters, the area of Amboseli at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro has in the main been spared from poachers. Much of the summit of the huge mountain is covered by cloud and at nearly six thousand metres above sea level it is Africa’s highest mountain. Tens of thousands of flamingos transform Lake Bogoria into a colourful spectacle and its many geysers give the landscape an air of mystique, the hot springs highlighting the enormous energy that lies beneath the earth’s surface. Located at the southern tip of Africa, South Africa is surrounded by two oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian. Both the country and its inhabitants are in many ways remarkable and the cultural variety of several ethnic communities has been well maintained. The Kalahari in Botswana is one of the most sparsely populated areas in the world yet it has been inhabited for thousands of years: its Bushmen are proud of their long history. The San are a tribe of hunter gatherers who continue to use their extraordinary knowledge of nature right up to the present day. Just off the Tanzanian coast is the legendary island of Zanzibar once feared because of pirates but at the same time appreciated for its marvellous spices and in the ancient town of Stone Town several buildings have been restored and now shine out once again in all of their historic glory. Africa, the Dark Continent - but with all the fascinating colours of the rainbow!
