BOSPHORUS CRUISE ISTANBUL 2019 | ISTANBUL TRAVEL GUIDE
I started the Bosphorus Cruise Istanbul 2019 in Beşiktaş by taking a regular Bosphorus transport ferryboat. We moved from Beşiktaş to Sarıyer along the European Shore of the Bosphorus.
The Bosphorus is called in Turkish Istanbul Boğazı (Throat). It is a busy waterway and this Bosporus strait is connecting the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea. One side is Europe and on the other is Asia. Both shores are lined with beautiful Yalıs. A Yalı is a Bosphorus seafront mansion. I cruised along the European shore of the Bosporus. One of Istanbul's must do's is an Istanbul Bosphorus Trip.
There are many options to do a Istanbul Bosphorus Tour. You can do a private Bosphorus trip, a circle Bosphorus cruise or a full Bosphorus cruise. Another option is called Bosphorus by night tour, cruising and having a magical experience of the city by night.

Bosphorus Tour in Istanbul / Turkey
One of the worlds most strategic waterways, Bosphorus is the strait between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara; it is an inundated valley that follows an irregular northeast-southwest course 32km (20 miles) long, 730-3300m (800-3600 yards) wide, 30-120m (100-395ft) deep.
Bosphorus comes from a Tracian word of unknown origin, interpreted in Greek as meaning “Ford of the Cow”, from the legend of Io, one of the many lovers of Zeus, who swam across the sea here as a cow chased and continuously disturbed by flies sent by Hera.
Known in Turkish as Bogazici (the Strait), it links the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara and, with theDardanelles (in Canakkale), separates Europe from Asia. It is a former river valley which was drowned by the sea at the end of the Tertiary period. This is a very busy strait with many ships and oil tankers, as well as local fishing and passenger boats.
The current flows north to south; however, a strong subsurface countercurrent with numerous points and coves sets up swirls and eddies that make navigation dangerous to the inexperienced.
There are two suspension toll bridges on this Strait: The first one over the Bosphorus between Beylerbeyi and Ortaköy, opened in 1973, is called as Bogazici Bridge, 1074m (1175yards) long, 6 lanes, 165m (540ft) height of piers. The second one between Anadolu Hisari andRumeli Hisari, opened in 1988, is called as Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, 1090m (1192yd) long, 8 lanes, 65m from the water.
With the shores rising to heights up to 200m (650ft), lined with palaces, ruins, villages, and gardens, this is one of the most beautiful stretches of scenery in Turkey. The best way of seeing the Bosphorus in all its beauty is to take a trip on one of the coastal boats, in this way you can also admire many of the old Ottoman wooden houses (called as Yali in Turkish). You can also stay in some of the best hotels or eat in some of the best restaurants along its shores during your stay in this magnificent city.
Some of the interesting palaces, buildings or neighborhoods on the Bosphorus are: Galata tower, Dolmabahce Palace, Ciragan Palace,Yildiz Palace, Besiktas, Ortaköy, Arnavutköy, Bebek, Rumeli Fortress, Tarabya, Yeniköy, Istinye, Sariyer, Uskudar (Scutari), Kanlica, Beykoz,Anatolian Fortress, Beylerbeyi Palace and Kuleli Military High school.

Join David as he shows you around the top 15 places to see in Istanbul! Istanbul is one of the only transcontinental cities on the planet, spreading across Europe and Asia Minor. As Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul is a bustling hub of culture, history and gastronomy – a cosmopolitan capital in every sense.
David begins in the oldest part of the city, the Sultanahmet District. He begins in the Hippodrome (circus), which served as the center of public life for the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine citizens. Present-day Sultan Ahmed Square has a handful of surviving remnants from ancient times.
Near Sultan Ahmed Square are two of Turkey’s most visited attractions, steps from one another – the Ayia Sofia (Hagia Sophia) and Blue Mosque. The Ayia Sofia is now a museum, but was built as an Eastern Orthodox Basilica in 535 A.D. It was a Christian church for over 900 years before the Ottomans used it as a Mosque for another 481 years. It was the largest house of worship in the world for over 1,000 years!
Across the square is the Blue Mosque. Its name comes from the blue tiles used to decorate the interior. Nearby sits the stunning 15th century Topkapi Palace that served as the home and governmental seat for the Ottoman sultans until the 1850s. A tour will reveal beautiful stonework and intricately decorated staterooms, as well as a crown jewel and Imperial treasury exhibition.
After the palace, David takes us to the Archaeology Museum to show us some of what was uncovered in Istanbul. Perhaps the most impressive thing on display is the Sarcophagus of Alexander the Great with its detailed reliefs depicting Alexander’s life of successful conquering.
Not too far from the museum is the Basilica Cistern – a damp and dark subterranean cavern used to collect water for the city. The Medusa heads were likely stolen from a nearby Greco-Roman city to support the columns. Medusa’s face provided a warning against anyone who dared to tamper with the water supply.
The next day, David heads over to the 300-year-old Cağaloğlu Hamamı for a Turkish bath. This Hammam provides full-service spa treatments including scrubbing, steam baths, and massages. Definitely a MUST experience when in Istanbul.
David then heads to the shores of the Bosphorus for a scenic boat ride along the strait. From the water you’ll get panoramic vistas of the Istanbul skyline and get to enjoy view of other areas of this enormous city.
After arriving back on land, David heads to the Beyoğlu District to beautiful pedestrian-friendly Istiklal Street, or “Independence Avenue” for some lunch. It spans about 1.4 kilometers and is the perfect place for shopping and dining. You can walk or take the Nostalgic Tram in either direction. The end of Istiklal Street takes David into the heart of Istanbul, Taksim Square. In the center of the square is the Monument of the Republic (1928) commemorating the formation of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
Onto the Galata District to see a Whirling Dervish show at the Galata Museum. This 800-year old practice of spinning is used as a physical form of meditation. It is a mysterious and beautiful site to behold.
You can’t visit the Galata District and not notice the Galata Tower. It looks over Istanbul and provides 360-degree views of the city, the Bosphorus, Golden Horn and landmarks.
After all that sightseeing, David works up an appetite so he heads to the Karaköy waterfront to enjoy a cheap meal with a 5-star view. Nearby is the fish market. You can’t get to the Karaköy or Galata without crossing the Galata Bridge. From here you’ll see the skylines of both Sultanahmet and Galata districts.
Lastly, David goes out to one of the most exclusive entertainment complexes in the world. Reina sits along the Bosphorus and offers world-class dining, nightclubs, and beautiful ambiance. Dress to impress and make dinner reservations so you can stay after to party!

Welcome to my travelchannel. On my channel you can find almost 1000 films of more than 70 countries. See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy!
Taksim Square:
Taksim Square (Turkish: Taksim Meydanı), situated in the European part of Istanbul, Turkey, is a major tourist and leisure district famed for its restaurants, shops, and hotels. It is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, with the central station of the Istanbul Metro network. Taksim Square is also the location of the Monument of the Republic (Turkish: Cumhuriyet Anıtı) which was crafted by Pietro Canonica and inaugurated in 1928. The monument commemorates the 5th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of Turkey in 1923, following the Turkish War of Independence. The word Taksim means division or distribution. The Taksim square was originally the point where the main water lines from the north of Istanbul were collected and branched off to other parts of the city (hence the name.) This use for the area was established by Sultan Mahmud I. The square takes its name from the Ottoman era stone reservoir which is located in this area. Additionally, the word Taksim can refer to a special improvisational musical form in Turkish classical music that is guided by the Makam system. Another significant building that once stood on the square was the 19th century Taksim Artillery Barracks (Taksim Topçu Kışlası, which later became the Taksim Stadium), but it was demolished in 1940 during the construction works of the Taksim Park (Taksim Gezi Parkı.) Taksim is a main transportation hub and a popular destination for both tourists and the native population of Istanbul. İstiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), a long pedestrian shopping street, ends at this square, and a nostalgic tram runs from the square along the avenue, ending near the Tünel (1875) which is the world's second-oldest subway line after London's Underground (1863). Surrounding Taksim Square are numerous travel agencies, hotels, restaurants, pubs, and international fast food chains such as Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Subway, and Burger King. It is also home to some of Istanbul's grandest hotels including the InterContinental, the Ritz-Carlton, and The Marmara Hotel.Taksim is also a favourite location for public events such as parades, New Year celebrations, or other social gatherings.Atatürk Cultural Center (Atatürk Kültür Merkezi), a multi-purpose cultural center and opera house, is also located at Taksim Square.NTV television had its morning news studio on Taksim Square for a number of broadcasting seasons, before moving to its new studio in 2011. Taksim Square is an important hub for public transport in Istanbul. In addition to serving as the main transfer point for the municipal bus system, Taksim Square is also the terminus of the Hacıosman-4. Levent-Taksim-Yenikapı subway line of the Istanbul Metro. The İstiklal Avenue-Tünel nostalgic tram line also starts in Taksim.Taksim's position was given an extra boost on June 29, 2006, when the new Kabataş-Taksim Funicular line F1 connecting the Taksim Metro station with the Kabataş tramway station and Seabus port was opened, allowing people to ascend to Taksim in just 110 seconds.
