İzmir is a city in the western extremity of Anatolia and the third most populous city in Turkey, after Istanbul and Ankara.[1][2] İzmir's metropolitan area extends along the outlying waters of the Gulf of İzmir and inland to the north across Gediz River's of delta, to the east along an alluvial plain created by several small streams and to a slightly more rugged terrain in the south. The ancient city was known as Smyrna (Greek: Σμύρνη Smyrni), and the city was generally referred to as Smyrna in English, until the Turkish Postal Service Law of 28 March 1930 made İzmir the internationally recognized name.
The city of İzmir is composed of several metropolitan districts. Of these, Konak district corresponds to historical İzmir, this district's area having constituted the İzmir Municipality (Turkish: İzmir Belediyesi) area until 1984, Konak until then having been a name for a central neighborhood around Konak Square, still the core of the city. With the constitution of the Greater İzmir Metropolitan Municipality (Turkish: İzmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi), the city of İzmir became a compound bringing together initially nine, and more recently eleven metropolitan districts, namely Balçova, Bayraklı, Bornova, Buca, Çiğli, Gaziemir, Güzelbahçe, Karabağlar, Karşıyaka, Konak and Narlıdere. Almost all of these settlements are former district centers or neighborhoods which stood on their own, with their own distinct features and temperament. In an ongoing processus, the Mayor of İzmir was also vested with authority over the areas of additional districts reaching from Bergama in the north to Selçuk in the south, bringing the number of districts to be considered as being part of İzmir to twenty-one under the new arrangements, two of these having been administratively included in İzmir only partially.
In 2014, İzmir had a population of 2,847,691, while İzmir Province had a total of 4,113,072.

What Is IZMIR TURKEY LIKE? FIRST IMPRESSIONS - Travel Vlog
I travelled with Pamukkale bus company from Fethiye to Izmir, the third largest city in Turkey after Istanbul and Ankara (respectively)After checking into my hotel I went out exploring, starting off in the Kemeralti Market, I then stopped off for some food, tavuk and kunefe, then wandered past the clock tower on Konak square to the coast. I found it to be very relaxed down there, this is where all the locals hang out. I chilled while watching the sun set, met some friendly locals before making my way back to the hotel. A nice day out in Izmir.

Fahrettin Altay Metro, Subway Station, U-Bahn | İzmir, Turkey 2020

From Wikipedia:
Fahrettin Altay is the western terminus of the İzmir Metro's only operating line, the M1. Located under Fahrettin Altay square, the station has two side platforms servicing two tracks. The station was opened on 26 July 2014, after 9 years of delayed construction.
The station offers connections to regional buses to Çeşme, Urla, Seferihisar and Karaburun, which depart from a terminal adjacent to Fahrettin Altay square.
History
Construction of the six station expansion of the subway line, west from Üçyol, began in 2005 with completion expected by April 2007.[1] The contract was awarded in March and groundbreaking began on 5 July. However, due to disagreements between the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and the company contracted with building the line, construction halted on 14 February 2006 and the contract was cancelled in November. A new contract was awarded on 23 January 2007, with completion expected 31 October 2008. However the company could not reach the deadline and the contract was cancelled on 13 August 2009. The İzmir Municipality finished the remaining works, albeit at a slow pace, and completed the extension, opening Fahrettin Altay station on 26 July 2014.

Vlog 24 // Istanbul - Izmir, Turkey Day 3
Day 3 Istanbul to Izmir, Turkey - Exploring the Ancient City of Ephesus
Travelled to Izmir from Istanbul, then from the airport, we went straight to the ancient city of Ephesus.
At dahil biglaan, (I thought we were going to drop off our stuff sa hotel pero hindi pala) I wasn't prepared and I didn't wear a proper jacket (kasi it was windy and very cold) and forgot to bring an umbrella kaya ang ending....we got drenched in the rain. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our tour around Ephesus. A place that we only read in the bible or sa history books.
After lunch, we went to a ceramic workshop. I bought a candle holder made of Çini (a type of clay that can only be found in Turkey) and moonstone (it glows in the dark), which was properly wrapped by the owner of the workshop, but ended up broken after a baggage inspection in Jordan. Pakshet!
Moving on...we also went to a leather shop where we were treated to a private fashion show. Didn't buy anything from there, though. Mahalya Jackson!
Enjoy the vlog!
