TRIP TO INDONESIA - YOGJAKARTA JOGJA - TRAVEL VLOG
Welcome to Yogjakarta Indonesia!
In this tour we visit central Java in the city of Yogyakarta (often called “Jogja”) to see Borobudur and Prambanan, two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
About 15 minutes from Yogjakarta's airport is Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia dating back to the 10th Century. It contains temples dedicated to the three main Gods of the Hindu Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Next we head to the Sultan's Palace where we see a glimpse into the Indonesian heritage.
We watch the Wayang, or Shadow Puppet performance, which is an Javanese art form listed with UNESCO. The puppets are etched in intricate designs and the stories are accompanied by the traditional gamelan music.
We visit a batik art shop to watch how this unique Javanese art form is created using wax and color on cloth and silk.
Next we try the local cuisine including snake fruit.
Finally, we reach Borobudur, one of the top three temples in Southeast Asia. Built in the 9th Century, it was built as a monument to educate about Buddhism. It is the largest Buddhist temple complete with nine levels topped by a central dome, making it 10, a number signifying perfection. There are 504 Buddha statues, each in different positions ranging from meditation, teaching, to enlightenment.
Here is the information on our tour:

Indonesia / Java - Bali
In this movie from our trip through Indonesia, you will see all kinds of highlights from Java and Bali.
After landing in Jakarta we quickly go to Gunung Halimun National Park. We stay at home with a local guide and visit a tea plantation, a tea factory and of course the surrounding jungles.
It takes us 2 days to get from Citalahab (in Halimun) to get to Pangandaran beach. Here we learn to surf, take a swim in the Green Valley and visit a traditional Wajang puppet maker.
From Pangandaran we head to Yogyakarta by train and visit the Borobudur temple.
From Yogyakarta we travel to the magnificent Bromo volcano and its surroundings, followed by the even more stunning Ijen volcano.
After these long days we have some relaxing time on the route to Sukamade. In the evening we found a turtle on the beach laying eggs and visited the Turtle Hatchery.
At last, we arrive at paradise, Bali!! 4 days of relaxing, diving and snorkeling. From our lovely stay the Reef Seen hotel we have a truly remarkable reef in front of us.
Enjoy watching!!

Pasar Beringharjo is a popular market located off Malioboro Street (one of the main streets in Jogja). It’s a great place to visit if you want to sample some of Yogyakarta’s traditional foods and some Javanese dishes.
We start outside the market and eat pecel a cooked vegetable salad drizzled with peanut sauce before heading inside and upstairs to find Empal Bu Warno which serves up smoky fried beef and intestine on rice, together with basil, cucumber and a thick, sweet sauce reminiscent of molasses.
To cool down, we perch on a stool in front of Mbah Hari’s small stand and let her dish up a bowl of es dawet a refreshing mix of coconut milk, palm sugar and rice flour and tapioca flour jellies. To finish- the ultimate sate- sate kere or beef fat sate. Chunks of pure fat that sizzle over charcoal and then ooze as you chomp down on them. You might not feel like eating for many hours afterwards because they’re so rich but they’re worth it. Trust us.
Where we ate:
All stalls at Pasar Beringharjo (off Malioboro street) Jalan Margo Mulyo No.16, Ngupasan, Gondomanan, Kota Yogyakarta, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta 55122. Visit in the morning to early afternoon.
Nasi Pecel at Mbak Sri Cilik outside the market.
Iso goreng and empal goreng (fried intestines and fried beef) at Empal bu warno (south side of the market, on the second floor opposite Masjid Muttaqien)
Es Dawet from Mbah Hari (north side of the market)
Sate Kere (beef fat sate) from the stall outside the market on the south side.

20 Things to do in Yogyakarta & Central Java Travel Guide (Solo, Semarang) for Foodies in Indonesia Travel Food Lovers Video Transcript:
Hey guys! We're in Indonesia for a week. Yeah, so this is our second time back in Indonesia and this week we're going to be exploring Yogyakarta and Central Java and this video is going to show you some of the top attractions in the region. Can't wait to show you around. Let's go!
For our very first stop in Central Java, we headed to the biggest Buddhist monument in the world and the most popular attraction in the region: Borobudur.
So we are ready for another adventure. Tell us! Yeah, we're heading up to Mount Merapi and there is basically two different ways you can do it. You can hike up but we're going with a jeep. Yeah, it'll be fun. Hop on in.
After a few days in Jogja, we hopped on a train and headed towards Solo, also known as Surakarta. The ride was a little over an hour, and not only was it an inexpensive way to travel, but it was also incredibly scenic. We zoomed past villages and rice fields, and before we knew it, we had arrived.
So right now we're inside Pasar Triwindu which is an antiques market here in Solo and we are seeing some real gems.
So I went shopping for my Batik and I found one I really like. It cost about 30 US dollars and I can't wait to start wearing it. I think the first time I'll try it on is for dinner soon.
So we're starting off with coconut milk pancakes which are called Serabi.
Our next stop in Solo was the Mangkunegaran Palace, which dates back to 1757. Part of the royal family still lives here, so you can’t wander around.
Another way to experience Solo is by doing a tour on a pedibike, also known as a becak.
This trip was all about going in search of food, culture and a little bit of adventure. Over the course of the week we visited ancient temples, browsed through antique markets, ate our fair share of street food, and tackled a rather infamous volcano. In this video we are going to show you 20 things to do in Yogyakarta and Central Java, so let’s get started.
And that’s a wrap for our whirlwind trip to Indonesia. We hope you enjoyed getting a closer look at what Yogyakarta and Central Java have to offer. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do and places to visit, feel free to let us know in the comments below. Happy travels!
This is part of our Travel in Indonesia video series showcasing Indonesian food, Indonesian culture and Indonesian cuisine.

Hi! We're Hannah and Chad! We met at college and got married in August of 2016. As poor newlyweds and recent college grads, we moved to New York City to begin what we thought would be our long careers in finance. Only one year later, after accumulating over 2 million miles and points through travel hacking, we booked round-the-world business class tickets to over 40 countries for free. We quit our jobs, sold everything we owned, and began this once-in-a-lifetime adventure on August 27, 2018. Chad has always loved creating home videos to hold onto the memories we share while traveling, so we started this YouTube channel as a place to share our adventures with friends and family. We hope you'll join our journey to exciting countries and experiences around the world!

Indonesia has some of the BEST street food in the WORLD, and Ting and I decided to take a last minute trip to Jogjakarta, Indonesia, to taste the EXTREME Spicy catfish and Indonesian street food!!!
We're starting up first with one of Indonesia's most famous street foods in Jogjakarta, the GUDEG! Gudeg is a famous street food in Jogjakarta that is made from rice and a stewed chicken dish made from coconut milk and super sweet jaggery. It was one of the best street foods we tried in Jogjakarta! Found at Gudeg Lindu.
After this, we're driving DEEP into the countryside of Indonesia to visit the Manggut Lele spicy catfish stall. This was definitely one of the spiciest street foods I've ever tried! After visiting the kitchen and witnessing the traditional Indonesian recipes and watching the catfish boil on the BBQ, my eyes were burning with smoke and was ready to sit outside and enjoy the spicy catfish. It was INSANELY spicy but also slightly sweet! Very delicious!!!
After this, we're going for a famous Indonesian street food in Jogjakarta, the sate and goat intestine soup. The BBQ sate skewers were served right on the street and marinated in a traditional recipe of garlic and onion and salt. They were SUPER TENDER!!
After this, we're bringing YOU to a famous spicy duck joint in a VILLAGE outside of Jogjakarta! It was EXTREMELY SPICY!!! But also quite sweet, as Indonesian cuisine is in Jogjakarta.
And to finish up our Indonesian street food tour in Jogjakarta, we're visiting a local street stall to try the ronde, a local Indonesian dessert made from ginger and palm sugar and sugar palm fruit and peanuts. It was very delicious!
