เที่ยวชวาตะวันออก East Java Trip - INDONESIA
Wonderful Indonesian - Pesona Indonesia
East Java Government Culture and Tourism Service sponsored us to experience in East Java Province. During those three days, we visited the following places:
1. Taman Safari Prigen
This is the second and largest safari park to be ever built and developed in Indonesia. Taman Safari Prigen is located at the tropical mountain of Arjuna but serves as home to various species from across the globe.
2. Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park
If you are a nature-lover, adventurous and cold-loving traveler, Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park fits you! This National Park experiences cold temperature (relative to lower areas) throughout the day and is home to the famous Mt. Bromo. Mt. Bromo can be reached by riding a jeep then by riding a horse or walking to reach the crater. Take note that you can also witness the sunrise if the weather is nice and if you are brave enough to wake up early in the morning and face the freezing cold.
3. Museum Angkut
Museum Angkut means Museum of Transportations. It is home to a lot of new, antique and historical vehicles for land, water, and air travel. What is really thrilling about this museum is that roughly 80% of its collection is still operational. To prove this, some of the vehicles from its collection are being driven and showcased daily at the Gangstertown area.
4. Apple, guava and orange plantation
Indonesia is known for its massive biodiversity; hence, you should not waste the chance of trying some of its fresh fruits! Visit this plantation in Malang, choose from their tour packages and you are good to go! You will pick your own fruits!
5. Jawa Timur Park
This park is said to be the largest in East Java that it houses a massive taxidermy museum, a secret zoo and a theme park. This is a child-friendly place!

Backpacking through Java, Indonesia 2013
We had a great time and hopefully this clip inspires more people to visit. Here are a few things I would like to share as knowing this stuff in advance would have helped.
Travel Advice
First we stayed in Jogja in the Prawirotaman district which I really liked. Its tourist friendly but not overly so with a definite backpacker vibe and there are lots of nice places to eat (western and traditional Indonesian) as well as quirky shops. While you're in Jogja you can get a taxi to Borobudur and Prambanan temples. Wondering around Malioboro street is worth doing but nothing special.
Solo was deserted as far as travellers go, we really didn't do much there and wouldn't recommend it.
There is no train from Solo to Semarang (despite lonely planet telling us otherwise) so we caught the bus which took 3 hours. The next bus to Jepara was another story, it was a ramshackle minibus with no AC and a crazy driver and assistant combo who stopped whenever they could to pick up more passengers. We sat with our backpacks on our laps too so it was another more uncomfortable 3 hours. In hindsight, it would have been much easier to get the ferry straight from Semarang. Jepara has a good street food market in the evening, I highly recommend the deep fried mushrooms. There's a nice beach in Jepara called bandengan which is a tourist destination for Indonesians so you have to be careful about what you go swimming in. I wore a top and shorts to be safe. You can hire a jetski for 200krp for 15minutes. Probably a bit expensive but worth it :)
Karimunjawa is really beautiful and off the beaten track so they say, the ferry is ridiculously unreliable. We tried finding when it would leave from the internet and got it wrong so we rocked up at the terminal and realised we were two hours late so had to catch it the next day. Try to avoid the slow ferry if possible, especially economy. You can get really nice barbecue fish near the 'town square' (actually a football field.) They literally had a fresh catch in the bucket and asked us which one we wanted and we sat on the pavement while they barbequed it on dried coconut husks. You can hire a tour guide to take to on a boat to different islands which have clear waters and a tropical island feel. We also visited a homestay that had a shark pool with reefsharks that you can paddle around in. They have a collection of other marine life - some turtles, starfish and a puffer fish that they pick up and let you hold. Not sure if I agree with it, especially since they charge you money but it's nice to see.
Malang was really great, I don't know if Indonesia had grown on me by then or if it was less confrontational in general. It was so calm on the roads we (and when we say we I mean Pat) thought it was OK to brave them and hire a bike for the day. This was great value at only 80krp and we felt really free to explore and not be confined by the usual tourist routes. Of course we got severely lost owing to the lack of street signs and our knowledge of bahasah Indonesia, but it was fun nevertheless getting off every now and again and trying to get directions from the locals. We visited Singhasari temple (a bit disappointing) and Coban Rondo waterfalls. We finally considered a tour of Bromo and Ijen volcanoes. They are quite far out of the way and visiting them solo is much harder to arrange. Although we fell into the usual traps of being sent to expensive restaurants full of white people and paying much more than we should have the whole arrangement worked really well. Bromo and Ijen are definitely worth visits, the scenery is stunning and, well I think volcanoes are cool. Through the hostel we also had a great cooking class. The only thing that was slightly alarming was the amount of MSG added to every dish, it did however make for some very tasty meals and much better than what we would have found wondering around the streets.

Feel The Most AMAZING MOUNTAIN of INDONESIA !!! [BROMO MOUNTAIN]
This is a video about the miracle of Indonesia's Nature. Indonesia is one of the most place which has a lot of amazing secret nature. In this video, we tell about the great secret of Indonesia's mountain.
Located some 4 hours drive from Surabaya, the capital of East Java, Mount Bromo is a part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park that covers a massive area of 800 square kilometres. While it may be small when measured against other volcanoes in Indonesia, the magnificent Mt Bromo will not disappoint with its spectacular views and dramatic landscapes. At 2392 meters tall, Mt Bromo is not among the tallest of Indonesia’s mountains but its stunning beauty lies in its incredible setting.
From a vantage point on Mount Penanjakan (2,770 meters above sea level), 2.5 hours from Malang. visitors from around the world come to see the sunrise over Mt Bromo. From this spot the vista is magnificent. All you will hear is the click of cameras as visitors snap their camera’s hoping to capture the incredible scene of Mt Bromo in the foreground with Mt Semeru smoking in the distance and the sun shining brightly, quickly rising in the sky.
The eerie landscape has spurned countless legends and myths. Mt Bromo has particular significance for the Tengger people who believe that this was the site where a brave prince sacrificed his life for his family. The people here appease the Gods once a year during the annual Kasada festival where offerings of vegetables, chickens and money are thrown into the crater of the volcano.

Suku Tengger, Keturunan Para Pengungsi Majapahit
