Jeongbang Waterfall must see in Jeju Island Korea

Jeju Island Korea Travel Guide. Jeju Jeongbang falls. Jeongbang Waterfall is one of the three highest waterfalls in Jeju-do and the only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean. Next to the waterfall is a sign that says Seobulgwacha, an explosion to Seobul passing by in this place. Seobul was a servant of the Chinese Qin Dynasty Emperor (BC 259 ~ 210) commanded by the Emperor to find a substance that will rotate eternally. Seogwipo is also known by the name of this story, which means Seobul Headed Back West. Jeju Island, Jeju Must see, Jeju Island Attractions.

On a tall cliff near the sea stood an old pine tree, leaning like it was ready to fall into the ocean. About 300 meters to the east is another waterfall, Sojeongbang Waterfall. This is a great place to relax during the summer. There is an observatory on the cliff top, from where you can order beautiful sea views. Jeongbang Waterfall (정방폭포) is one of Jeju Island's three famous waterfalls.

The waterfall is situated within walking distance from the city of Seogwipo, and the water falls from a high cliff, at a height of 23 metres. It is arguably, Asia's only waterfall which falls directly into the sea.

This easily-accessible natural beauty is not to be missed when you are in Jeju Island.

Jeongbang Waterfall in Seogwipo on Jeju Island is the only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the sea. A beautiful waterfall down timber stairs with lots of large rocks to clamber over. You can even walk in behind the falls themselves. Background music is Pachabelly by Huma Huma.

Cheonjiyeon Waterfall is a short walk from the town centre of Seogwipo on Jeju Island in South Korea. These falls are popular with tourists as they can take a pleasant stroll through sub-tropical vegetation, across pretty little bridges and stepping stones to arrive at the 22 metre high falls. One of our hobbies is visiting beautiful waterfalls. On day 2 of our trip, we went to 3 unique waterfalls in Jeju Island, South Korea called Jeongbang waterfalls, Cheonjiyeon Falls, and Cheonjiyeon waterfalls. Jeongbang Falls is only waterfall in Asia that falls directly into the ocean. I was able to get amazing take the drone over the falls to get breathtaking shots. Next we went to the Cheonjiyeon Waterfall also called “God’s pond,” deriving its name from the legend that the seven fairies serving the King of Heaven came down to the pond on stairs of cloud and bathed in its clean waters. Cheonjeyeon Falls is comprised of three tiers, the first is more of a drip with a beautiful clear blue pond, the second is a marvelous falls that I was able to get some shot with the drone over the falls, and the last was a short yet powerful falls that was slightly hard to see because of the tree in the way.

There are a lot of attractions in Jeju!

The only waterfall in Asia to fall directly into the ocean, Jeongbang Falls is situated at a high cliff by the sea, and is one the most famous waterfalls to visit on Jeju Island. The wall of the waterfall is inscribed with the words “Seobulgwacha”, which refers to Seobul, a servant of the Chinese Emperor Jin, passing by this place.
For another uniquely Jeju experience, walk down to the rocky coast where you see a few ahjummas (middle-aged women) selling fresh catch from the sea. Spare some time and money to enjoy some raw sea urchin sashimi from these ahjummas before you hike back up the waterfall.

The best market on the island, Seogwipo Olle Market was established in 1960 and features more than 200 shops that sell everything from freshly caught fish to casual apparel.
The market is almost predominantly frequented by island locals and is a welcome respite from the tourist scene. Haggling may invite some good-natured complaints from the vendors, but at the very least they’ll add in more than what you thought you were paying for.
In an effort to make it more visitor-friendly, the government introduced an artificial stream that runs down the middle of the path, and also roofed the entire market in anticipation of the many rainy days.
The best part? The market is connected to Route 6 of Jeju Olle Course, a beautiful hiking route that encompasses both coastal and downtown areas. Saunter down after a scenic hike for some delicious local snacks.

Jeongbang Waterfall in Jeju

Jeongbang Falls, located in Donghong-dong, Seogwipo City, is one of the top three waterfalls in Jeju along with Cheonjiyeon Falls and Cheonjeyeon Falls. This water is the only one falling directly to the sea in Korea. The 23 m-high waterfall has two streams of water. It produces the brisk sounds of water falling along the black wall, creating a splendid scene along with the ocean. Moreover, the neighboring precipitous cliffs and the stately old trees add to the unique scenic view of the waterfall. It has been selected as one of the ten wonders of Jeju and called Jeongbang Hapoki. They say that letters Seo Bul Gwa Cha are inscribed on the wall of the waterfall. A Chinese scholar named Seo Bul was ordered by the First Emperor of China to seek the herb of eternal youth. Unfortunately, he failed in his quest. On his way back home, he happened to see the waterfall and was mesmerized with its beauty. He inscribed Seo Bul Gwa Chaon the cliff, but since there is no vestige of the letters now, it might be just a legend.
