Cape Town South Africa Video with a Drive to Cape of Good Hope, Hermanus, Table Mountain
This is a video of a fun time in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa in September, 2011. A driver was hired to lead us on a fun excursion down the coast to the Cape Of Good Hope, some botanical gardens, Stellenbosch in the wine country, whale watching in Hermanus and a fantastic trip up to the top of Table Mountain overlooking the city of Cape Town. HD video was shot on a Panasonic Lumix GH2 in 1080-24P with a Lumix 14-140mm zoom and a Lumix 20mm pancake lens. Was just getting to know this great camera. Looking forward to trying it again sometime!

The Garden Route - Kinetic Snapshots
From Cape Town, I hopped the Baz Bus to ride along the Garden Route. First stop - Hermanus. Where right whale watching can be done seasick-free from shore. Whales seen, the next stop was Mossel Bay. Wind swept coast around from the town. Those rodent-like critters are Dassis, whose closest genetic relative is the elephant. Next stop - Wilderness (cool name). Grotty weather till the sun emerged just before I left. Enroute to Storms River Village, we crossed the Bloukrans Bridge with the world's highest bungy jump (I'd done my once-in-a-lifetime jump in New Zealand). Off the ground and into the trees with a canopy tour in the Tsitsikamma Forest. Taking a walk in the forest, I ran into some baboons - pardon the big foot fuzzy images. I finished in Port Elizabeth with a safari which is another video entirely. Backtracking, I ventured into the Kleine Karoo to Oudtshoorn. Driven up to the Swartberg Pass, I was tossed out with a mountain bike to make my way back. Passed ostrich ranches. A tourist show, where they paid thousands of rand, and which I secretly filmed from the road so you can view it for free. Then regretfully paid to enter an ostrich farm with ostrich riding - yee-haw! Finally, before returning to Cape Town, I ventured as far as I dared on a shitty bike in the vinelands of Stellenbosch. Created: 31 October 2011
Cape Town Slideshow #1 Tour From Downtown To Cape Of Good Hope
Here is part one slideshow of our vacation in Capetown in Sept, 2011. You will see some sights in Capetown and some lovely scenic shots along the beautiful coastline all the way down to the Cape Of Good Hope. Our favorites on this first leg of the trip were the gorgeous light beaches, the lovely deep blue-green water and especially the ostriches near the beaches- wow what a sight!

South Africa's most powerful nano-satellite launched
South Africa's most powerful nano-satellite has successfully been launched into space. In 2013 the Cape Peninsula University of Technology made history with the launch of ZACUBE-1.
Now the institution has done it again with ZACUBE-2, launched this morning with the Russian Soyuz Kanopus mission from Siberia. The satellite, developed by the French South African Institute at CPUT, will monitor marine traffic along the South African coast and also detect forest and veld fires.

Shot entirely on location in Dunoon - South Africa's most densely populated township - iBalaclava is a moving short film about the lives of two brothers, and the sacrifices they have to make. It's a story of failure, grace, and second chances - and we're proud to have it screening in townships across Cape Town, impacting peoples' lives for the better.

Geremy Cliff, Major role players in the history of South African shark and ray research
Keynote Address
KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board and Biomedical Resource Unit, University of KwaZulu-Natal
Early interest in the South African elasmobranch fauna was confined to species descriptions and distributional records by several European-based taxonomists and John Gilchrist and Cecil von Bonde (Dept. of Agriculture and Fisheries), Andrew Smith and Keppel Barnard (South African Museum) and later JLB Smith of Rhodes University, and their colleagues. A spate of shark attacks on the KwaZulu-Natal coast in the 1940s and 1950s prove the impetus for a major thrust in shark research and shark control measures. It resulted in the deployment of the first shark nets in Durban in 1952. In 1959 research into the development of electrical shark repellents was initiated by the CSIR and still continues today at the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board. The Oceanographic Research Institute was established in Durban in 1959 with sharks and shark attack a major focus under director David Davies, resulting in a series of seminal reports on the sharks of the region (John Bass and colleagues). The expansion of shark netting along the KZN coast provided considerable material for their research. It also resulted in a suite of publications by the Natal Sharks Board on the catch statistics and life history of the sharks caught in this program (Geremy Cliff, Sheldon Dudley and colleagues). The arrival of shark taxonomist Leonard Compagno in 1985 in Grahamstown before moving to Cape Town four years later resulted in a surge of regional interest. In the 1990s the popularity of white shark ecotourism in Gans Bay, False Bay and more recently Mossel Bay and Algoa Bay provide a major impetus for research on this iconic species. Research on inter alia distribution and movements, behaviour and genetics and has been published by Ramon Bonfil, Matt Dicken, Chrysa Gubili, Neil Hammerschlag, Nigel Hussey, Ryan Johnson, Alison Kock, Karl Laroche, Aidan Martin, Mike Meyer and Amanda Pardini.

Emotional Reunion Between My Kids and Their Grandparents |South Africa Travel | Family Vlog
After stressful 3 days, our kids and most of our friends finally arrive in South Africa. It was an emotional reunion between the kids and their grandparents. Their grandparents we were elated to finally see them.
My kids grandparents live in South Africa.
We had our first lunch together and we went to Khayelitsha to show our friends from the USA the township. It was a wonderful experience.
In December of 2016 we decided to take a vacation to South Africa as a family with six of our friends. We were a group of ten. We spent the whole month touring the country. We visited Eastern Cape, Hermanus, Cape Town, Johannesburg. We stayed at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, Constantia and Bloubergstrand. We hit all the tourist spots: Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape Point, townships of Khayelitsha and Gugulethu. In Johannesburg we went on a safari. We saw our family and friends. We had an awesome time.

Karoo_Pastoral.mp4
Karoo Pastoral is not merely about an area in a country -- it is a ballad of word and image, regarding a legendary portion of our planet, which shares in the mystique of Gondwanaland, the primeval continent of the past. For some, the Karoo is simply abarren and desolate landscape. Forthe people of the Karoo, it is the heartbeat of its existence, with the ever-changing perceptions of the seasons; boundless horizons and breathtaking starlit nights.
At the end of the day, the Karoo is home to man and his fellow creatures. In Karoo Pastoral they, and the world in which they live, are brought into focus, through the lens of an artist.
Avis Best Roads - Chapmans Peak - South Africa
Affectionately known as “Chappies”, Chapman’s Peak Drive is widely regarded as one of the most scenic stretches of road winding through the Atlantic Coast between Hout Bay and Noordhoek in the Cape Peninsula. It is one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world and a must-see for anyone who is passionate about the majestic scenery of Cape Town. The twists and curves in the road seem endless and it is a photographers dream.
From stunning vantage points, some of which are up to 593m above sea level, Chapman’s Peak Drive and the surrounding coastal areas offer excellent whale watching spots during the annual whale season in Cape Town. Aptly named after John Chapman, the Captain’s mate of an English ship the Consent, construction of Chappies began in 1915 and, after several years of work, it was officially opened by the governor-general of what was then the Union of South Africa, Prince Arthur of Connaught and Strathearn.
