Nova Scotia's Wine Region
Nova Scotia has a long and rich tradition of growing grapes for wine dating back to the 1600s, when this was one of the first areas to cultivate grapes in North America.
Situated on one of the cooler climate limits for vines, Nova Scotia’s soil and mesoclimates create some of the most distinctive premium-quality grapes in North America. Our wineries have garnered international acclaim for their efforts and genuine passion. Our warm summers and long falls create crisp wines with bright acidity and aromatic complexities. Constantly being recognized as distinctly Nova Scotian, the combination of these unique characteristics led to the development of the first appellation in the province, Tidal Bay, officially launched in June 2012.
There are over 70 grape growers and more than 800 acres under vine in seven different regions across Nova Scotia: Annapolis Valley, Gaspereau Valley, Avon Valley, Malagash Peninsula, LaHave River Valley, Bear River and Marble Mountain, Cape Breton.

Economic Development | Terry Farrell Re-Election Campaign
VIDEO | Economic Development in Cumberland North: Featuring local business FinaMark Group Inc. of Amherst, NS
Terry Farrell ensures to the people of Cumberland North there’s much more reason to be optimistic of the future than there was even in the past year for economic development. One reason Terry is optimistic is because of local business owners like Bryce Payne, who is the owner of FinaMark Group Inc., locally operated and growing in of Amherst, NS, delivering financial services to clients centrally all around Atlantic Canada.
Over the last three years there has been dramatic change in Nova Scotia, and it’s not only about living within our means, but it’s about changing the way we do things, in particular, economic development to grow the sector. Sometimes it’s hard to see where we’re going, but over the course of the next year we will begin to see those things pay off in our various sectors. People are starting to see that we’re turning a corner and getting the things done that we said we’d do.
Economic development in Cumberland County will be spearheaded by the new Cumberland Business Connector and the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre. Terry played a persistent role in bringing the centre to life, collecting from the Liberal government $850,000 of federal and provincial funding for the $1.5M project.
“They will be a big part of a 'Made in Cumberland or made at home solution',” Farrell said. “We’re not going to get someone from Halifax to come in and save us economically. It’s something we have to do ourselves. We all have Faith in our People, Pride in our Products” to economically grow Cumberland North as a one-stop and shop destination for tourist as well as the local and surrounding areas around Cumberland County
Farrell said he is very encouraged by the business leadership in their commitment for the economic future of the county. Terry is looking forward to working with that leadership and the municipal units in developing this model to its full capacity.
He said support for the wine industry should be beneficial in the Malagash area, with Jost Vineyards as well as more money for export development. He is also pleased that the industry will help the growing craft beer industry, including Trider's Craft Beer in Amherst.
If you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got. Let's continue to grow Cumberland County. On May 30th, let's get better - together. #Vote #TeamTerry
