Park City 2018
Park City Utah
Park City, Utah (Canyons Side) - January 2019
Park City Mountain Resort is a ski resort in the western United States in Park City, Utah, located 32 miles (51 km) east of Salt Lake City. Park City, as the ski resort and area is known, contains several training courses for the U.S. Ski Team, including slalom and giant slalom runs. During the 2002 Winter Olympics the resort hosted the snowboarding events and the men's and women's alpine giant slalom events.
The resort was purchased by Vail Resorts in 2014 and combined the resort with neighboring Canyons Resort via an interconnect gondola to create the largest ski area in the United States.
There Is Only One. Park City.
Park City Mountain Resort and Canyons Resort have combined to create the largest single ski and snowboard resort in the United States. A new 8 passenger gondola connection, along with the new King Con Express six-pack and Motherlode Express Quad make up just some of the improvements totaling over $50 million for the 2015-16 season. With over 7,300 acres, 300+ trails, 38 lifts, seven terrain parks, six natural half pipes, one super pipe and one mini pipe, plus many diverse ski-in/ski-out and village adjacent lodging properties, Park City is an easily accessible, world-class mountain destination located in an authentic and historic western town.

Capital Improvements for the 2015/2016 Season at Park City Mountain Resort
More than $50 million of improvements are planned for next season!
Vail Resorts plans to link two of North America’s greatest ski areas – creating the largest resort in the United States with 7,300 acres of skiable terrain. The plan outlines more than $50 million worth of resort improvements in 2015 that include:
The Interconnect Gondola -
An eight-passenger, high-speed gondola running from the base of the existing Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flatiron Lift at Canyons. When conditions allow, gondola passengers will be able to unload at the top of Pine Cone Ridge and ski or ride directly down to Park City's Thaynes Canyon trail via gated ski access or to the Iron Mountain area at Canyons through new trails that will be created from Pine Cone Ridge.
Upgrade of King Con and Motherlode Lifts at Park City -
King Con will be upgraded from a 4-person to 6-person high-speed detachable chair, meaning increased lift capacity. Motherlode will switch from a fixed-grip triple to a 4-person high-speed detachable, similarly improving the number of guests it can carry.
New Snow Hut Restaurant, Upgrades to Summit House Restaurant at Park City and Expansion of Red Pine Lodge at Canyons -
A completely new Snow Hut restaurant, replacing the current Snow Hut next to the base of Park City's Silverlode Lift and the Park City terminal for the Interconnect Gondola, will include 500 indoor seats and a top-of-the-line kitchen and culinary experience. Meanwhile, upgrades to Summit House will improve the flow of diners and increase seating. At Canyons, Red Pine Restaurant will be renovated to the tune of 250 additional indoor seats.
Snowmaking and Other Improvements
The plan rounds out with additional snowmaking on two trails in Canyons’ Iron Mountain area to handle increased skier traffic for Interconnect Gondola access. We’ll also be putting almost $5 million of catch up maintenance and upgrades at Park City, given the lack of spending at the resort over the past few years. This “catch up” maintenance spending is in addition to the normal annual maintenance capital for the two resorts of $5 million, which will be undertaken this year as well.
It’s the dawn of an exciting new era at Park City Mountain Resort and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Stay tuned for updates throughout this next exciting year of growth!
New Lifts Open - Park City - December 5, 2015
3 more lifts are open at Park City. Silverlode Express, Town Lift, and Sun Peak Express. Enjoy the new terrain at the largest resort in the United States.
Park City Mountain 2018/19
A vacation to Park City is all about the experiences you will remember forever. The experience of a new challenge. The experience of taking in the view from new heights. The experience of learning something new. To visit Park City is to know you've found the one. Take a moment to reflect on the all the experiences Park City Mountain has to offer.
C-SPAN Cities Tour - Ogden: Promontory Summit & the Transcontinental Railroad
Visit the site where the Golden Spike was struck completing construction on the Transcontinental Railroad. Construction of the Central Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad met at Promontory Summit, about an hour outside of Ogden on May 10, 1869. The railroad network made traveling across the country easier and greatly improved the process of transporting freight. In the 20th century, Ogden's logo read, You can't get anywhere without coming to Ogden. Park Ranger David Kilton shows us the exact spot where the two rail lines met and talks about the impact.

Park City Quicksilver Gondola
The Quicksilver Gondola is the iconic lift connection that created the largest ski resort in the United States. It was built in 2015 by Doppelmayr as Vail Resorts integrated Park City Mountain Resort with Canyons. The lift travels from The Colony development at Canyons in White Pine Canyon, downhill from the Iron Mountain Express, and to a midstation located on Pinecone Ridge. From there, the gondola travels to the base of the Silverlode Express and Miners Camp lodge, including a massive span of Thaynes Canyon in the process. The lift has a vertical rise of 1,686 feet with a total inclined length of 7,776 feet and a capacity of 1,500 people per hour. The lift has CWA Omega IV cabins, Agamatic grips, and UNI-G stations. The midstation is not a UNI-G station, limited to only covers over the tire banks and bullwheels. The midstation is also noteworthy because the line gauge and tower style actually changes, from a shorter width and American-style towers on the Canyons side to larger width European-style towers on the Park City side, due to the span over Thaynes Canyon. Guests can ski down from both sides, either down two blues into the Canyons or the expert terrain of Pinecone Ridge into Park City. The Quicksilver Gondola completely revolutionized the skiing in Park City, stitching two resorts together with an impressive piece of ropeway engineering. From steep sections to the midstation and huge span, Quicksilver has it all for any avid fan of ski lifts.

Park City HomeRun Ski Trail -- Full Length -- December 17, 2016
This video shows the full 3.55 miles (571 k) distance of Park City Mountain Resort's HomeRun Ski Trail, starting from the upper Pioneer lift station and ending at the lower Payday lift station -- a vertical elevation loss of 2,450' (747 m). This is a wonderful green trail that goes from the top of the mountain to the base. Most skiers access this trail by first taking the Payday Express then transferring to the Bonanza Express lift to reach the top of the mountain -- skiing the run from the Bonanza lift reduces the distance shown in the video by about 1/4 of a mile (you will pass the Bonanza lift station on the right, shortly after the beginning of the video). Homerun can also accessed via the Silverload, Motherload, and Thaynes chairlifts.
