BIRTHPLACE OF BHAGAVAD GITA JYOTISAR KURUKSHETRA HD
JYOTISAR KURUKSHETRA
Jyotisar is a town on the Kurukshetra-Pehowa road, in the Kurukshetra district of Haryana, India. It is at this place where Krishna delivered the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna to remove his confusion and dilemma and prepared him to face stronger and greater warriors like Bhishma and Karna in the Mahabharata War.
The banyan tree under which the Bhagavad Gita was delivered still stands.
'Jyoti' means light and 'Sar' means the core meaning. Hence the name of place is a reference to the 'core meaning of light' or ultimately of God. It is one of the most revered holy sites of the holy city of Kurukshetra. A Vat (Banyan tree) stands on a raised plinth. Local traditions say that this tree is an offshoot of the holy Banyan tree under whichLord Krishna delivered the sermon of Bhagavad Gita, the doctrine of Karma and Dharma to his wavering friendArjuna. It is here that He showed his Virat rupa (Universal form).
A marble chariot depicting Krishna delivering the sermon to Arjuna marks the site of the Srimad Bhagwad Gita. In one secluded section of this center, an old Shiva temple can also be seen. Hundreds of years ago, a holy water tank was present here and it can still be seen in the rainy season. The Kurukshetra Development Board has renovated the site in recent times. A mango shaped lake has been constructed here with covered bathing ghats for ladies. Cement parapets and enclosures have been built for protection. A light and music show is organized by the tourism department at the site, on a regular basis, which recreates episodes from the epic Mahabharata. A restaurant and accommodation wing for pilgrims have been built and the entire area has been landscaped with flowering bushes and eucalyptus trees.

Shri Krishna Arjuna Temple at Jyotisar is the second ISKCON Temple in Kurukshetra. It is being constructed as per the desire of Srila Prabhupada to have a temple at the spot where Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna. There is a temporary hall currently. By around 2021, a big temple will be raised with a deity of Shri Krishna Arjuna in six acres of land. The foundation stone laying ceremony of the temple was held in August 2015.
50 years ago, a 70 year old Indian Swami, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada set up a makeshift temple in a small storefront in New York City’s lower east side. The movement he started, ISKCON - International Society for Krishna Consciousness, attracted George Harrison and the Beatles, besides several energetic youth.
Today, ISKCON has 650 temples in six continents. It hosts the world’s largest vegetarian food relief program and feeds over 1.2 million school children daily in India. ISKCON is also the largest publisher of books on the ancient Vaishnava teachings, and has truly transformed into the ‘United Nations’ of the spiritual world.
On the occasion of ISKCON’s 50th anniversary, Shri Narendra Modi- The Honourable Prime Minister of India said, “The efforts of the ISKCON family in sectors like education, publishing and disaster-relief are commendable. I hope they continue to serve humanity with the same enthusiasm and diligence as they have been doing for the last five decades.”
Recently, ISKCON has undertaken the construction of a glorious Krishna-Arjuna temple on a 6-acre plot of land received from the Haryana Government. This site is close to Dharma Kshetra- Kurukshetra where Lord Sri Krishna revealed the sacred Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna.
The Bhagavad Gita is universally renowned as the jewel of India's spiritual wisdom. Spoken by Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead to His intimate disciple Arjuna, the Gita's seven hundred concise verses provide a definitive guide to the science of self realization. No other philosophical or religious work reveals, in such a lucid and profound way, the nature of consciousness, the self, the universe and the Supreme.
ISKCON founder, Swami Prabhupada outlined his vision for the project in Kurukshetra, “Our project is Bhagavad Gita. Learn Bhagavad Gita and apply it practically in your life. We are trying to establish an International institution in Kurukshetra to teach Bhagavad Gita in practical life and are inviting students from all over the world.”
“The waters of the ganges bestow liberation, while the holy land & waters of Varanasi, both grant liberation. It’s only in the holy land of Kurukshetra that the land, waters and skies bestow liberation.” - Mahabharat Vanparv
The Krishna-Arjuna temple will be constructed on a holy spot, the place where the war between Kauravas and Pandavas took place, and the place where Lord Krishna delivered the holy Bhagavad Gita to his disciple and friend, Arjuna. Since the place holds great significance, establishing ISKCON here will help spread Krishna Consciousness all over the world.
“By merely being touched by the dust of Kurukshetra- the greatest of sinners attains the topmost position.” - Mahabharat Vanparv 83-2
The project needs monetary help to proceed. Your donation will be used for the construction of a special spiritual monument: the Krishna-Arjuna Temple. Kindly, put in your best contribution in building this glorious temple. You can also contribute by sharing this fundraiser page with your networks on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and WhatsApp.
ज्योतिसर तीर्थ - गीता उपदेश स्थल - वट वृक्ष - कुरुक्षेत्र - हरियाणा - JYOTISAR TIRATH KURUKSHETRA

Journey to Kurukshetra - Trailer
The Holy Places of Bhagavad-Gita - 2012
'Journey to Kurukshetra' is a trip to the site where the historic Battle of Kurukshetra mentioned in the Bhagavad-Gita took place. Before we are going to Kurukshetra, we see sites where Krishna, India' Great Saint, grew up - places like Mathura, Vrindavan, Jyotisar, and Delhi. In Jyotisar there is still the Banyan Tree where Krishna gave the scriptures of the Bhagavad-Gita to the warrior Arjuna. Krishna inspired many people in India to live a spiritual life. The location of the battle was Kurukshetra in the modern state of Haryana in India. The conflict is believed to form an essential component of an ancient work called 'Jaya' and hence the epic 'Mahabharata'.
The content of the Bhagavad-Gita was and still is an inspiring story for many years for me. I like to read about the Battle of Kurukshetra and the message that Krishna gave Arjuna. So I went to the places where history happened 5,000 years ago. I tried to make the message understandable for a short film - I find the story of the Battle of Kurukshetra to be as important as the crucifixion of Christ.
