The temple has big Raja gopuram (temple tower) and very big in area. The temple also houses other idols such as Saraswathi, Ganesha, Chadurmukeswarar, Sastha and Bhairav. There are four shrines of Lord Shiva around the temple tank (called as Ishta Siddhi Teerth) – Dharma Siddheswarar, Kama Siddheswarar, Artha Siddheeswarar and Moksha Siddheswarar. Near the main deity Kachabeswarar, there is an idol of Lord Ganesha called as Satyamozhi Vinayaka, which was worshipped by Lord Vishnu.
As per the legend, when the Devasa and Asuras were churning the milky ocean to get Amruth, the mountain which was used as the churning stick, started sinking. Lord Vishnu incarnated himself as Koorma (tortoise) and lifted the mountain on his back. Due to this, he got proud and increased the water level which troubled the universe. At this juncture, Lord Shiva destroyed the tortoise and strung its shell on the sacred garland worn about his neck. Later, Lord Vishnu regretted his act and came here to get blessings of Lord Shiva, and hence Shiva in this temple got the name Kachabeswara (Kachab means tortoise). It is believed that Lord Brahma and hsi consort Saraswathi also worshipped Kachabeswarar in this temple. Asura guru Sukracharya worshipped here to get Mruthsanjeevini and Vajrayakkai.

Where Lord Shiva was worshipped by the 'Koorma'(tortoise) incarnation of Lord Vishnu is the temple of Kachabeswarar. In this temple in the small village of Thirukkachur in Kancheepuram resides Lord Shiva as Kachabeswarar and Goddess Soundarambikai. The idol is considered to be 'swayambhu'. Mythology describes that Lord Brahma and Saraswathi also worshipped Kachabeswarar in this temple. It is also believed that asura guru Sukracharya worshipped here to get Mruthsanjeevini and Vajrayakkai. Another story associated with the temple describes how the Lord himself, in disguise of a Brahmin, performed Bhiksha to feed his devotee Sri Sundaramurthy Naayanaar who was tired and hungry due to the long walk to the temple.

Kailasa Nathar Temple - SECRET of REBIRTH & ENLIGHTENMENT

Hey guys, today we are going to look at the Kailasa Nathar temple in South India, some consider this as a model of the world-famous Kailasa Temple in Ellora Caves. Some even consider this as the origin of all temples and even the origin of spirituality. I will show you this entire temple in my next video, but in this video I want to show you the secrets of Spirituality hidden in this temple.
So we have a lot of these relief carvings here, and I am going to show you this one, right? Your eyes are automatically going to these central figures, this is a fantastic story. It is a story between Shiva and Arjuna. And I hope you know the story, and you have enjoyed the story, but what are you going to do next? Your eyes are naturally going to go to these animals known as Yalis. Now, look at their hands. Look at what their hands are doing. One Yali's hand is pointing this side, and the other Yali's hand is pointing this side. Of course, this is very interesting to me. So you have enjoyed this carving, you have enjoyed this temple, what are you going to do now? This is not just about devotion, the lions are telling you to go either this way.. inside.. Let us see what is inside. Here. So you can see there is a place for one person to sit. and this is an isolate place so.. nobody can be looking at you from outside. So it is a perfect site for meditation. Now, let's go and see what's there on the other side. Because this Yali is showing this way. Here.. you have another perfect place to meditate like this. Now this is what the Yalis are telling us. It is not just about devotion, it is about finding enlightenment. But there is another interesting thing here. Just pay attention to the sound. Aum.. Aum... Aum... Aum.. There is clear resonance echoing when you chant from these chambers. This is how monks used this temple.
If you sit inside these chambers and chant, you can experience a strange resonance not only in sound, but also the vibrations of your mind and body. There is not just one or 2 chambers like this, there are a total of 56 chambers like this, in this temple. Ancient monks used to come in groups and meditate in these chambers. I have visited this temple many many times, and believe it or not, this meditation practice still goes on today. If you come very early in the morning, or if you stay at odd hours, you can see some monks coming and meditating here. Some even have specific chambers which they use repeatedly.
So you can see how, by following the signs of this animal, known as Yali ,we can get a lot of information. Remember, I showed you the Yalis from another temple In Darasuram. I showed you how the tails and trunks of Yalis made us understand something spectacular. So, if you go to ancient Indian temples, please pay attention to Yalis.

The Incredible Sculptures of Kachabeswarar Temple - Thirukachur

Hey guys, today let us take a look at this ancient temple called Katchabeswarar temple in a small town called Tirukachur. This temple is said to be built around 8th century A.D and was rebuilt again in 16th century. This temple is known for its very weird carvings. For example here is A very strange carving showing someone with a massive hunchback, this person's back is almost bent at 90 degrees to the legs. The person is walking using a stick because it would be impossible to walk like this without a stick. Here is a figure standing on top of another figure. And look at this guy's hairstyle. It looks like a native American headdress. If that's his real hair, may be he is getting an electric shock? There are no fingers in his hand, He appears to have only half of this arm and is standing in a weird position. What does this mean? Here is another figure with a very large headdress. It is shown touching the ground. In another pillar, we can see Conjoined twin girls. They look very scary, with very glaring eyes and interesting facial features. Why do we see these carvings in a Hindu temple?
This temple basically sits on a square piece of land of about 2 acres with a compound wall on all sides. Inside the walls, there is kind of an L shaped structure which houses the sanctum and other structures. You can see some towers sticking out of the flat roof. The temple tank is situated outside the compound wall, it also belongs to the temple property. It is a gigantic tank, always full of water for Public use.
Gigantic wooden doors protect the main entrance. The main entrance is made of a cube-like structure made of granite blocks. It is considered an original ancient structure from many centuries ago. This temple has been continuously renovated so you will see a mixture of some new structures here and there.
As soon as we enter inside the temple, again we are drawn to the strange carvings. Here is a carving which shows a figure - half tortoise and half-human - putting a flower on a lingam. Who is this figure? It is Lord Vishnu because you can identify his tools and weapons. This carving tells us the story of how this temple was founded. The name of this type of Vishnu is called Karkada and this is why the lingam got the name Karchabeswarar.
In the same pillar, you can see another carving. Here is a man holding a ball like thing on top of a lingam. What is going on here? Please let me know the answer in the comments section. Let us go into the chambers which house the deities. These are dark chambers where there is very little light. All these structures are made of granite and the walls are very thick. Look through these diamond-shaped windows and you realize how thick the granite wall must be. On the ceiling in the main structure, I found a very strange carving. What is this? Why are they carved on the ceiling of the most important chamber? Are these merely fictional animals, or do these species exist in real life? Inside the sanctum, there is a small lingam which is known as Kachabeswarar. Locals consider it as a powerful lingam which emits divine radiation. Outside the temple, there is a small building with several pillars. It has many interesting carvings on the ceiling and pillars. Here is a horseman ready to throw a spear and this horse, a male horse is shown stomping on the enemy, who is on the ground.

Chennai -Thirukachur || Marundeeswarar Temple || Chennai temples
Marundeeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in Thirukachur, a village in Kanchipuram district in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Shiva is worshipped as Marundeeswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Balambigai. The presiding deity is associated with the 7th century Tamil Saiva Nayanars Sundarar. The temple is counted as a twin temple along with Kachabeswarar temple located in the same village.
The temple complex covers an area of one acre and all its shrines are enclosed with a granite concentric rectangular walls. The temple has a number of shrines, with those of Marundeeswarar and his consort Irulneeki Thayar being the most prominent.
The temple has three daily rituals at various times from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and four yearly festivals on its calendar. The Brahmotsavam festival is celebrated during the day of the Magam (February - March) is the most prominent festival.
The original complex is believed to have been built by Cholas, while the present masonry structure was built during the 16th century. In modern times, the temple is maintained and administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
As per Hindu legend, Devas, the celestial deities, got cured off their illness by worshiping Shiva at this place. The Devas were treated by Aswani Devata, the divine doctor at the behest of Shiva. Shiva thus obtained the name Marundeeswarar, Marundu literally means a curative.[1] The temple has a recorded history from the 10th century, but scholar attribute the presence of the temple at least from the 8th century, pertaining to the period of Sundarar, the famous Saiva Nayanar. Sundarar has glorified the temple in his verses in 11th Thirumurai of Thevaram.
he temple has a flat gateway tower and all the shrines of the temple are enclosed in concentric rectangular granite walls. There is a sixteen pillar hall in front the gateway that has sculpted pillars dating back to the 16th century. The temple occupies an area of around 1 acre (0.40 ha). The central shrine houses the image of Marundeeswarar in the form of Lingam. The shrine of Irulneeki Thayar (also called Anthaga Nivarini), facing Easat is located in a shrine behind sanctum. The central shrine is approached through a Mahamandapam and Arthamandapam. As in other Shiva temples in Tamil Nadu, the shrines of Vinayaka, Murugan, Navagraha, Chandekeswara and Durga are located around the precinct of the main shrine. There is a shrine depicting Shiva offering food to Sundarar on the Western side. Sundarar has made a mention of the event, calling the deity as Marundeeswarar, Virundeeswarar and Iranthittai Eswarar. The image of Chandesa is depicted with four heads.
