Exploring Kagurazaka, in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan
The neighborhood of Kagurazaka in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, was recommended to me by a Japanese friend so we went off the mainstream tourist path, got off the metro at Iidabashi Station, and made a short visit to the Kagurazaka area. I'm really glad we went - it was really chilled, relaxed and had a lovely non-touristy vibe. We enjoyed a quick peek at the local Buddhist temple, Zenkokuji Temple, and more-so, just walking down the main high street / shopping streets, Waseda Dori and Kagurazaka dori.
We lucked out and got to see both green tea being roasted in a tea shop, and some Imagawayaki 今川焼き (Obanyaki 大判焼き) shaped like Peko-chan being made at a little bakery called Fujiya.
The little side streets were charming, pretty and quaint too. A nice place for a stroll to just absorb the vibes of a quiet, non-touristy, residential high street.
If you're ever in Tokyo and want something relaxing to do, a walk around here may be just the thing!

In search of new things to do in Tokyo, I spent the day with my Japanese buddy Yuta. He acted as my local tour guide as we explored a less-touristy side of Tokyo.
Things to do in Tokyo (from this video):
Tokyo's Koreatown - In the Shin Okubo neighborhood of Tokyo is Koreatown - A great place for markets, restaurants, street food, and perhaps most popular attraction the pretty faces of Korean Pop World.
Record shops of West Shinjuku - The West Side of Shinjuku is a music lovers paradise, home to many recording studios and record shops, its a great place for locals to discover new music and enjoy the classics.
Eat Udon - Udon is a thick, wheat flour noodle served al dente in a broth based of soy sauce, rice wine and dashi (like a fish stock).
Kagurazaka - Kagurasaka is a quiet traditional Japanese neighborhood left off most tourist maps. home to beautiful maze-like side streets and an interesting french influence.

Kagurazaka - Tokyo’s Old Geisha Area
A tour of another of my favorite areas in Tokyo. Kagurazaka used to be the Geishas’area. I hear that a few still live here.
Kagurazaka is a quiet and elegant area full of nice shops and delicious restaurants.
Isuzu remains one of my favorite wagashi shop in Tokyo. They have the best seasonal wagashi.

Japan Apartment Tour - Furnished Studio in Kagurazaka Tokyo
This apartment is located in Kagurazaka, Shinjuku-ku and was quite expensive. It can be rented for 1 week, 1 month, or 3 months - I opted for the 3 month deal.
It came out to around ¥150,000 monthly with all furnishings and utilities included. 20m2 :(
I later moved down the hall to a slightly larger version that was 29m2 and that place was 180,000 monthly.
I rented through Tokyo21Monthly, they were really helpful, took care of any maintenance I needed, and didn't require any key money, deposits, anything.
Feel free to ask about apartment hunting, maintenance, or anything else about living in Tokyo!

Iidabashi & Kagurazaka, Tokyo, Japan, 神楽坂 - Canon 80D - Virtual Trip
Iidabashi is well known to Franco-Japanese because until 2012 there was the Franco-Japanese high school where grew up and studied all Franco-Japanese and children of French expatriates in Tokyo. Since 2012, the high school has been moved to Takinogawa, much further north, in a much larger space.
Iidabashi is a residential area of Chiyoda District, perfect for living or spending time away from the noise, crowds and excitement of Shibuya or Shinjuku.
On the other side of the bridge and the Kanda River is the Kagurazaka district, famous for being the favorite neighborhood of the French, with many restaurants, pastry shops and French cafes. This district revolves around the main street Waseda dôri, also called Kagurazaka, which starts from the bridge and ends at Okubo dôri Avenue.
The street is all uphill, the atmosphere is rather casual and chic. In the middle of the street you can see the beautiful Zenkokuji temple.

Kagurazaka (神楽坂) is a fashionable shopping and dining district along a sloping street in Tokyo near Iidabashi Station. Tokyo is very popular for crazy food contests. Huge Ramen, huge gyoza, huge plates of rice, there's basically a challenge for everybody. Today we decided to try completing the 100 Gyoza Challenge at the famous shop Kagurazaka Hanten in Iidabashi.
A food challenge doesn't go without rules though!
The plate of gyoza costs 9,600¥ and you have to pay it a few days in advance because it takes time to prepare. You are given 1 hour to finish the whole plate, if you manage to finish the plate within that time span you will get a refund as well as your picture taken.
The staff will be checking on you during the challenge, and they may stop you if they feel like you are going to be sick.
If you accidentally puke in front of other customers, you will be charged a fee of 10,000¥.

► Come along as daily life goes by in Kagurazaka Street. Somehow it feels like every day there is a Sunday, a very nice and relaxing place, with lots of small shops, cafes, and izakayas. (*Japanese drinking bars)
Behind the mainstreet (which is really a small street) is
a small maze of very narrow alleys, where people live in their tiny, but nice little houses, and small inn's (Ryukans) dotted here and there, where travelers can buy a bed for the night.
