Kanva Dam Channapatna Taluk, Ramanagara tourism Karnataka tourism. Kanva Reservoir is an artificial lake and tourist attraction 69 kilometres (43 mi) from Bangalore, India, formed by the damming of the Kanva River in an irrigation project. Kanva Dam was built in 1946 across the Kanva River for irrigation. It is 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) long and covers 776 hectares (1,920 acres). The artificial lake, a major tourist attraction, has been formed by damming of River Kanva. The purpose of the dam is to provide irrigation to the nearby fields. It was built in 1946 and covers 776 hectares. The dam is quite long at 15 kilometers and is believed to have been named after the famous sage Kanva who lived in the caves nearby the mountains in the Ramanagaram area during those times. The dam is not very large in size and the water levels are usually very low. Tourists get attracted to the place because of the stunning scenic beauty that the surroundings present. Kanva Reservoir is situated 62 kms from Bangalore and 15 kms from Ramnagara, Magnificent species of bird fly over the reservoir making an attraction for the visitors. There are hills in the surrounding area.
Ramanagar may be associated with the iconic movie Sholay, there is more to the ‘Silk town’ than what meets the eye Kanva Reservoir and Ramadevara Betta.
Legend has it that Kanva River, a tributary of River Cauvery, is named after Sage Kanva, who is believed to have lived inside the caves, in mountains and forests around the dam, during the time of Ramayana.
Another key attraction is the cave temple of Purushotthama Thirtha Gavi. It is just three kilometers from the Kanva Reservoir and an important pilgrimage destination for the Madhwa Brahmins. They believe that a Madhwa saint did penance at this place during ancient times. An idol of Hindu Lord Hanuman is also seen inside the cave.
Ramanagara gets its name from Ramagiri Hills or Ramadevara Betta. Along with Ramadevara Betta there are other hills Rama Siddeshwara betta, Shivar-amagiri, Kaakasura Betta, Kapotagiri, this hill resembles a lingam when viewed from the east, Ganesha from the west, a serpent from the north and Lord Hanuman from the south.Ramanagara is well known for its sericulture, and is nicknamed Silk Town and Silk City . The silk produced in this region forms the input for the famous Mysore Silk. Ramanagara is the largest market for silk cocoons in Asia.. Ramanagaram is associated with the iconic movie Sholay. Ramadevara Betta a famous trekking spot, rock climbing spot surrounded by rocky hills is the place where famous scenes and song of the movie Sholay was shot. Ramanagara's name was based on the historical story of the Ramayana. Ramanagara – The land of the seven hills. Yatirajagiri, Shivaramagiri, Somagiri, Revannasiddeshwara Betta, Krishnagiri, Sidilakallu Betta and Jalasiddeshawara Betta are the seven major hills in Ramanagara. Ramanagara or Ramgarh is home to some of the world’s oldest deposits of granite and other rock outcrops.

Manchinabele is a village in Magadi taluk in Ramanagara District, Magadi taluk of lok sabha constituency of Bangalore Rural District. Manchanabele Dam is 40 km away from Bangalore, Located in the state of Karnataka city. Manchanabele Dam is built on the water of the tranquil Arkavati River. The river Arkavathy is a tributary to River Cauvery. Manchanabele is a man made irrigation dam, This dam is build for irrigation purpose, but now it also provides water to magadi town. The land which covered for irrigation under this project called “Thore saalu” because all the villages comes on the two sides of river arkavathi, in kannada “thore” means river and “saalu” means line. beauty of which can be enjoyed from nearby hills that offer an excellent view of the water body. The length of composite Dam is 362.20 Mtr. and height is 28.74 Mtr. with a storage capacity of 34.58 M.Cum. Reservoir area Involving submersion to an extent of 365 Hectares of 4 villages. Manchanabele Dam is Operational since 1991. This is also the main source of water for drinking, domestic and irrigation purposes of Bangalore City and its sub urbans. The Administrative Approval was accorded to the Project in 11-11-1977. The cost of the Project at 1986-87 rates was Rs.18.50 Crores. The revised estimate is prepared for Rs. 80.00 Crores. Cauvery Basin Projects, Mysore was started in the year 1974. The catchment of the reservoir is under forest cover. Manchanabele Reservoirs Right and Left bank canals irrigate lands in Magadi and Ramanagaram Taluks. The water of this reservoir is used for irrigating crop fields and for aquaculture.
This dam is also surrounded by lush green trees in small hills that make the place look even more mesmerizing. Manchanabele Dam is a perfect place to visit to unwind and relax. Manchanabele Dam is home to large number of flora and fauna. This place is replete with different types of lush green trees that are adorned with colourful flowers. This place is also inhabited by large number enchanting birds. Manchinbele dam a small reservoir is a well-known film shooting location. Many Kannada and other movies have been shot here. Backwaters of the dam with Savanadurga on the backdrop, gives the place picturesque look. Initially tourists were allowed to visit the dam, however, due to accidents in the area, now visitors are not allowed to go till the reservoir. You can view the dam from the nearby hilltops. Do not venture into water here, even on the reservoir side as the river bed has slippery boulders and many cases of mishap regularly happen here. Water flows from Magadi hills to Bangalore for about 51 Kms. Entry into the dam is strictly prohibited now. There are 2-3 security guards near the dam and they stop visitors from a kilometres distance. You can just have a view of the dam from far.
Nearby is the famous Big Banyan Tree or Dodda Alada Mara a popular picnic spot in Bengaluru as well as a well-known movie shooting location.
The Manchanabele village is just 40 kilometers from Bengaluru. direct bus from K. R. Market (City Market) in Bengaluru to Manchanabele is avaliable. If you are driving down from Bengaluru, you can take the Mysore road to reach here. For those coming from Mysuru, it takes 2 and a half hour via NH275 to reach Manchanabele.
