A holy pilgrimage one should go and enjoy, It's a whole day trip from kolkata. Kolkata to LCT Ghat is approx. 3.30 hr journey. One has to go through ferry from LCT Ghat to Kachuberia. Then from Kachuberia one has to go Ganga Sagar which is 30 km approx. You can hire taxi which is highly negotiable or by bus to reach Ganga Sagar. The last ferry in morning is about 11.30 to 12.00 noon from LCT Ghat. Returning ferry from Kachuberia is not available between 12.00 noon to 4.30 pm., because water level goes down. Normally it's 45min journey in ferry from one point to another and also 45 min journey by taxi and one hour journey by bus to Ganga Sagar from Kachuberia. So, one should keep margin if they have to catch train or flight for their onward journey.

Gangasagar Mela 2018, Part-2 (Kapil Muni Baba)
Beautifully lit Kapil Muni temple at Gangasagar mela
Kapil was a Vedic sage credited as one of the founders of the Samkhya school of philosophy. He is prominent in the Bhagavata Purana, which features a theistic version of his Samkhya philosophy. Traditional Hindu sources describe him as a descendant of Manu, a grandson of Brahma. The Bhagavad Gita depicts Kapila as a yogi hermit with highly developed siddhis, or spiritual powers.
Many of the details about sage Kapila's life are described in Book 3 of the Bhagavata Purana, where it is mentioned that his parents were Kardama Muni and Devahuti. Kapila is considered an incarnation of the supreme-being Vishnu and listed as such in the list of incarnations in Bhagavata Purana. After his father left home, Kapila instructed his mother, Devahuti in the philosophy of yoga and devotional worship of Lord Vishnu, enabling her to achieve liberation (moksha). Kapila's Sankhya is also given by Krishna to Uddhava in Book 11 of the Bhagavata Purana, a passage also known as the Uddhava Gita.
Kapila is described within the Puranas as an incarnation of Vishnu, an avatar come to earth to restore the spiritual balance through his teachings. He is known for teaching a process of liberation known as bhakti yoga. Buddhist sources present Kapila as a well-known philosopher whose students built the city of Kapilavastu. Buddha lived and grew up in Kapilavastu for the first 29 years of his life! Kapila shared many similarities with Buddha, including an emphasis on meditation as a technique for removing suffering, belief that the Vedic gods were subject to limitations and conditions, and dislike for ritual and Brahmanic doctrines. Kapilavastu means the substance of Kapila.

The structure is a stone block, considered to be the representation of Sage Kapil. The idol of the saint holds a small pot of water in his left hand and a rosary in the right. Images of Bhagirath, Ram and Sita can also be seen here. The annual Ganga Sagar Mela is celebrated on Makar Sankranti Day here. Pilgrims take a holy dip in the Ganges, before going to the temple. Sagar Island is 130 km from Kolkata. The great sage, Kapil Muni referred to in the legend is represented by a block of stone which is anointed and worshipped. There are the emblems of the Sea, Ganga Devi and Bhagiratha besides that of Kapil Muni.
Gangasagar Mela :-
