Burra, South Australia and Beyond – The 2017 / 2018 Australian Gravel Adventure!
Quoting directly from Wikipedia:
Burra is a pastoral centre and historic tourist town in the mid-north of South Australia. It lies east of the Clare Valley in the Bald Hills range, part of the northern Mount Lofty Ranges, and on Burra Creek. The town began as a single company mining township that, by 1851, was a set of townships (company, private and government-owned) collectively known as The Burra.[2] The Burra mines supplied 89% of South Australia's and 5% of the world's copper for 15 years,[3] and the settlement has been credited (along with the mines at Kapunda) with saving the economy of the struggling new colony of South Australia. The Burra Burra Copper Mine was established in 1848 mining the copper deposit discovered in 1845. Miners and townspeople migrated to Burra primarily from Cornwall, Wales, Scotland and Germany. The mine first closed in 1877, briefly opened again early in the 20th century and for the last time from 1970 to 1981.
When the mine was exhausted and closed the population shrank dramatically and the townships, for the next 100 years, supported pastoral and agricultural activities. Today the town continues as a centre for its surrounding farming communities and, being one of the best-preserved towns of the Victorian era in Australia, as a historic tourist centre.
My route would take me north of Burra to the town of Hallett, South Australia, then back again but on a route a little further west.

Postcards features Lavender Federation Walking Trail
Channel 9 in South Australia ran a fantastic tourism information program called Postcards. The dedicated team produced over 3,000 episodes in the 16 years it ran. They had a fantastic one hour episode to finish off on the 20th Nov 2012. It was a great celebration of some of thier work and at the same time - a very sad time for most South Australians. We wish Keith, Ron, Lisa and the Postcards team all the very best and say THANK YOU FROM S.A.!!!!
One of thier episodes featured the Lavender Federation Walking Trail, in 2006 and they have kindly allowed us to use it to promote our trail. We hope it also promotes the memory of the fantastic work they did for SA too.
Welcome to the Lavender Federation Walking Trail, a linear walking trail of 152 kilometres through diverse countryside traversing the eastern flanks of the Mt Lofty Ranges. The trail begins at Murray Bridge and takes a serpentine course past Truro at the northern gateway of the Barossa Valley.
The Lavender Federation Trail is named in honour of the late Terry Lavender OAM, the architect of the trail and the first chairman of South Australian Recreation Trails Incorporated (SARTI).
It is recommended that walkers refer to the detailed Lavender Federation Trail maps available from outdoor stores or local Visitor Information Centres.
The trail is in the Murraylands, Adelaide Hills and Barossa fire ban districts and is suitable for walking mainly between March and November or cooler days outside this period.

Camperdown Cemetary
Camperdown Cemetery is an historic cemetery located on Church Street in Newtown, an inner-city suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The cemetery was founded in 1848 and was for twenty years the main general cemetery for Sydney, with the total number of burials being about 18,000. Many people who were important to the early history of colonial Australia are buried there.
It is the only one of Sydney's three main early cemeteries that still exists.[1]
As well as historic monuments, the cemetery also preserves important elements of landscape gardening of the mid-19th century, and examples of native flora, which are now rare in the built-up inner city. St Stephen's Anglican Church is located within the present bounds of the cemetery. The site, with St Stephen's Church, is listed by the Heritage Council of New South Wales and the National Register as a site of national importance.[2]
Camperdown Cemetery is associated with numerous sensational stories, several reputed ghosts and a murder. It is used regularly for historical and genealogical research. Because of its historical importance and convenient location, it is also a venue for excursions by schools and historical societies. Camperdown Cemetery is valued by the residents of Newtown as providing a major greenspace located in the immediate vicinity of a busy commercial centre. In a densely populated area of small terrace houses without substantial gardens, the cemetery functions as a recreational area and a venue for many family and social activities.

Abandoned Australian Outback Goldmine
Exploring an Australian outback goldmine.
This place had been non-functioning for a few years but they seemed to of had some tours go through to look at how they mined the gold here.
This place was incredible to explore, unfortunately I didn't find any open mines to walk through, but looking at all the machinery and walking around was just very interesting of its own.
And sadly i did not find any gold :(
Don't forget new Abandoned Video out every Sunday at 10am!
