Kartlis Deda (Georgian: ქართლის დედა; Mother of Kartli) is a monument in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi, which has become a symbol of the city.
The statue was erected on the top of Sololaki hill in 1958, the year Tbilisi celebrated its 1500th anniversary. Prominent Georgian sculptor Elguja Amashukeli designed the twenty-metre aluminium figure of a woman in Georgian national dress. She symbolizes the Georgian national character: in her left hand she holds a bowl of wine to greet those who come as friends, and in her right hand is a sword for those who come as enemies.

Sittin' On Top Of The World | live in Tbilisi (Kartlis Deda/Mother of Georgia statue)
Live from the top of Tbilisi, Georgia, performing the traditional American blues song Sittin' On Top Of The World with my guitalele and harmonica near the big Mother Of Georgia (Kartlis Deda) statue, with a view over the whole city center of the Georgian capital.
The song was written by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon, members of the Mississippi Sheiks, who first recorded it in 1930.
It has been covered by many artists in many musical styles in the following decades. I personally love Bob Dylan's version from his Good As I Been To You album (1992).
This is the 1st video in my new travel series from #Georgia, where I spent about three weeks travelling in May 2018, after visiting some places in Azerbaijan, which was my previous travel series.

Performed on May 18, 2018, while sitting on the top of Sololaki hill, near the ancient Narikala fortress (where the cableway shown in the videos arrives) and the big Mother of Georgia (Kartlis Deda, ქართლის დედა) statue (built in 1958 to celebrate the 1500th anniversay of Tbilisi, she holds a bowl of wine in one hand to welcome those who come as friends, while in the other hand she holds a sword to fight against enemies). From this very panoramic point there's a nice view over many of the main places in central Tbilisi, including Metekhi church, Tsminda Sameba (Holy Trinity) cathedral, Liberty Square, Rhike park with music theatre and exhibition hall, Bridge of Peace.

The short intro clip is a timelapse recording of myself painting the Georgian flag and showing some previews of the videos that will appear in this series in the next weeks.
The background music was recorded by me and it's the intro of Pray For Me, a new unreleased song that I wrote during my trip to Georgia and which will appear at some point in this travel series.

The National Botanical Garden of Georgia (Georgian: საქართველოს ეროვნული ბოტანიკური ბაღი), formerly the Tbilisi Botanical Garden (თბილისის ბოტანიკური ბაღი), is located in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, and lie in the Tsavkisis-Tskali Gorge on the southern foothills of the Sololaki Range (a spur of the Trialeti Range). It occupies the area of 161 hectares and possesses a collection of over 4,500 taxonomic groups.
Its history spans more than three centuries. It was first described, in 1671, by the French traveler Jean Chardin as royal gardens which might have been founded at least in 1625 and were variably referred to as fortress gardens or Seidabad gardens later in history. The gardens appear in the records by Joseph Pitton de Tournefort (1701) and on the Tbilisi map composed by Prince Vakhushti (1735). Pillaged in the Persian invasion of 1795, the garden was revived in the early 19th century and officially established as the Tiflis Botanical Garden in 1845.
From 1888 on, when a floristics center was set up, Yuri Voronov and several other notable scholars have worked for the Garden. Between 1896 and 1904, the Garden was expanded further westward. Between 1932 and 1958, the territory around the former Muslim cemetery was included in the botanical garden. Several graves have survived, however, including that of the prominent Azerbaijanian writer Mirza Fatali Akhundov (1812-1878). The central entrance to the Garden is located at the foothills of the Narikala Fortress. The other, cut through the rock as a long tunnel in 1909-14, had been functional until the mid-2000s when the tunnel was converted into Georgia’s largest nightclub Gvirabi.

Tbilisi commonly known by its former name Tiflis, and often mispronounced as Tiblisi, is the capital and the largest city of Georgia, lying on the banks of the Kura River. Founded in the 5th century by the monarch of Georgia's ancient precursor Kingdom of Iberia. Its cobblestoned old town reflects a long, complicated history, with periods under Persian and Russian rule. Its diverse architecture encompasses Eastern Orthodox churches, art nouveau buildings with ornate balconies and Soviet Modernist structures. Looming over it all are Narikala Fortress, a reconstructed 4th-century citadel, and Kartlis Deda, an iconic statue of Mother Georgia. Under the Russian rule, from 1801 to 1917 Tiflis was the seat of the Imperial Viceroy governing both sides of the entire Caucasus.
