THRILL ADVENTURES NEPAL: A Walk Between Thamel & Kathmandu Durbar Square
Thamel is distinguished by its narrow alleys crowded with various shops and vendors. Commonly sold goods include food, fresh vegetables/fruits, pastries, trekking gear, walking gear, music, DVDs, handicrafts, souvenirs, woolens, clothes. Travel agencies, small grocery stores, budget hotels and restaurants also line the streets. Cars, cycles rickshaws, two-wheelers and taxis ply these narrow streets alongside hundreds of pedestrians.
Kathmandu durbar square is a must see and hard to miss location in the heart of the capital city. The immediate large square is surrounded by ancient Newari architecture, high temples, popular shrines and the old royal palace. Today Kathmandu durbar square is still an active and living square. Filled with people worshiping in shrines, selling goods or simply walking through. It's a living part of Kathmandu city.

Urban B Roll Challenge Kathmandu Nepal
The Nepal Series has begun!! In this first video we explore the city of Kathmandu & I dive into my thought process behind Urban B-Roll.
The initial things I try to capture are, diversity, tradition, city vibe, colour, food, the iconic, etc. An urban environment often offers overwhelming opportunities to capture it's culture and feel. Kathmandu is no different if not even more overwhelming with it's sense of organised chaos. For any of you who have been to India or here in Nepal, you know what I'm talking about.
This is the beginning of our Nepal Adventures and it is looking awesome, so stay tuned for some great content highlighting the Annapurna Circuit coming up next Sunday same time (15:00 GMT) same place :) then again next Wednesday and so on. You've got it. I know who you are. Ha.

Things to Do and Places to Visit in Kathmandu | Travel Vlog | Nepal
I always wanted to visit Nepal and trek in the upper Himalayas. In the month of June, I finally decided to act on it and planned a trip for 19 days in this beautiful country and attempt for Annapurna Circuit Trek. My first few days were spent in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, and Pokhara. This vlog showcases my time in Kathmandu when I visited the most popular tourist destinations in Kathmandu valley. I visited Thamel, Pottery Square, Naya Bazaar, Bhaktapur Durbar Square (one of seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley), Patan Durbar Square and Basantpur Durbar Square. Even though the Nepal earthquake from 2015 has taken a bit of a toll on the infrastructure and monuments of Kathmandu, the city still stands strong and wins your heart with Nepali Hospitality. I also tried some authentic Nepali food like Newari Khaja Set and Juju Dhau.
Here are a few more places to visit in Kathmandu
- Budda Neelkanth Temple
- Pashupatinath Temple
- Swayambhu (स्वयम्भू) also known as Monkey Temple
- Garden of Dreams
- Narayanhiti Palace Museum
This is the first vlog from my Nepal series. Hope you guys enjoy watching it. If you do, please like and share the video! :)

Our visit Kathmandu travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums, fascinating temples and the city by day and evening when Kathmandu comes alive at night. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Kathmandu tourism brochure, Kathmandu city tour or Kathmandu itinerary.
Kathmandu City Guide | Nepal Travel Series Transcript:
Well good morning. It is our first full day in Kathmandu (काठमाडौं). We are up bright and early. Sometimes it’s nice to be surprised by a destination, so we arrived in Kathmandu (काठमाडौं) without a whole lot of prior research. We knew we wanted to see the temples and palaces around Durbar Square (Basantapur Darbar Kshetra), but that was about it. We were up early, but Kathmandu (काठमाडौं) was buzzing. Scooters were racing to work, vendors were setting up their fresh produce, and construction work was underway.
Alright, so next up we are in Indrachok (इन्द्रचोक) It is a market area and yeah very lively. We're at the Garden of Dreams. Garden of Dreams (स्वप्न बगैंचा) and there is a beautiful little cafe & restaurant here. So we're just relaxing. These gardens are partly funded by the Austrian government. It is momo (饃饃) time. So we ordered vegetable momo today.
It is day 2 in Kathmandu (काठमाडौं) and today's excursion is to the Monkey Temple. The name is Swayambhunath (स्वयम्भू स्तूप).
We just finished visiting the Monkey Temple. We're riding a taxi to visit Pashupatinath Temple (पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर) which is one of the more popular ones here in Kathmandu (काठमाडौं).
This next temple is a sacred Hindu site (पशुपतिनाथ मन्दिर) where many believers choose to be cremated. According to the Nepalese Hindu tradition, the body must be dipped three times into the Bagmati River in order to break the reincarnation cycle.
So today is our last day in Kathmandu (काठमाडौं) and we've been staying in the neighborhood of Thamel. It is kind of like the touristy area. They have a lot of shops where you can pick-up souvenirs and like little trinkets to take back home. So we're going to do a bit of shopping.
Today we are having Dal Bhat (दालभात). We've been eating Dal Bhat (ডাল ভাত) very very often. So much so Sam has declared it his favorite dish.
Lastly in Kathmandu (काठमाडौं), we went in search of a rooftop terrace to enjoy a drink & watch the sunset with colourful prayer flags blowing in the wind.
This is part of our Travel in Nepal video series showcasing Nepali food, Nepali culture and Nepali cuisine.

Nepali Street Food Tour in Kathmandu || Nepal Travel Vlog
While in Kathmandu I had the awesome experience of taking a Nepali Street Food Tour with Kanti of Backstreet Academy. This was so much more than just sampling food, Kanti and her friends took us on an immersive tour of Kathmandu city as it was waking up for the day.
We started our tour sampling delicious potatoes with semolina (suji ko haluwa) and spending time learning about the local Newari culture. We then headed to the Asan Market (also known as the Asan Tole or Asan Bazaar), a market typically frequented by locals and is a complete 5 senses experience! While visiting the Asan Bazaar we stopped to sample some warm milk tea and Sel Roti, a sweet ring-shaped donut. From there, we headed to the Akash Bhairav, Seto Machindranath temples, and Kathesimbhu stupa to learn about different Nepalese religious traditions. Including the legend of feeding pigeons and the good luck their wings spread as you run through a crowd of them. We finished the morning with a spicy chickpea curry and best of all a jeri swari that tasted like funnel cake!
Come along with me as I sample delicious Nepal Street Food on a tour through Kathmandu with Backstreet Academy and Kanti!

Day 1| BEST TREK Around KATHMANDU | Awesome Day of EPIC ft Wanderlust Himalaya Adventures
Trekking in Nepal. I wanted to squeeze in a short trek around Kathmandu. I did the Kopasi- Balthali- Namobuddha-Dhulikhel trek with Wanderlust Himalaya Adventures. It’s one of the best hikes near Kathmandu and it was such an awesome trekking day in Nepal. It is a popular two day trek around Kathmandu Valley. Our start is located 2 hours east of downtown Kathmandu. Our first day's goal ends in Dhulikhel.
I did a shout out to my good friend Nabaraj, who runs his own trekking and tour company. He gave me a customized tour so I could film the valley and village life- I love filming human stories. I wanted epic scenery but also wanted to see village culture and lifestyles. But this trek surpassed my wildest expectations and you’ll see why.
Trivia: initially Nabaraj sold me my very first trekking tour a decade ago when he was just 19 years old and worked for another company. I’m honored to be taking one of his Kathmandu trekking tours! My first trek was Bhaktapur to Nagarkot, which is another top trek around Kathmandu as well.

Bhaktapur (Nepali: भक्तपुर ) literally translates to Place of devotees. Also known as Khwopa, it is an ancient Newa city in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, about 8 miles (13 km) from the capital city of Kathmandu. Khwopa was the largest of the three Newa kingdoms of the Kathmandu Valley and was the capital of Nepal during the great 'Malla Kingdom' until the second half of the 15th century. It has a population of more than 81,728, of which the vast majority are still Newa Nepa mi. Historically more isolated than the other two kingdoms, Kathmandu and Patan, Bhaktapur has a distinctly different form of Nepal Bhasa language.
Bhaktapur has the best-preserved palace courtyards and old city center in Nepal and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal and stone artworks. This is supported by the restoration and preservation efforts of German-funded Bhaktapur Development Project (BDP).
The city is famous for a special type of dahi (yogurt) called Ju Ju(king) dhau(curd).
This is a great place to spend a half day or full day or tourism if you are visiting Kathmandu, Nepal.
