Join me on a food lover's tour in Kawagoe, a charming town with the feel of old Tokyo. Easily accessible by local train from Tokyo, Kawagoe should not be missed.

Just a short train ride from Tokyo, Kawagoe retains an atmosphere of old Edo. They are famous for Unagi ( grilled eels ), sweet potatoes and green tea. Kita-in （喜多院） Temple, Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture, Japan
Kita-in （喜多院) temple is located in Kawagoe district in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. This temple is the main temple for people of Kawagoe.
Part of the Edo Castle has been moved into this temple precincts, including the birthplace (room) of Third Shogun of Japan Iemitsu. There are many artificats that belonged to the Shogun's household like the paintings, in a museum in the temple precincts.
One of the most awe inspiring things in the temple precincts is the 500 statues of Rakan (Buddhas). Every statue is different in this set of Buddhas and you should definitely visit this temple to see it.

A suburban area of Tokyo rich in nature and with many tourist sites
Area Characteristics
Saitama is an inland prefecture with more than 7 million people. With an area of 3,797km2（1,466mile2）, it is bigger than the 179th-biggest nation of Samoa（2,842km2＝1,097mile2）. Access to the southern part of the prefecture which includes Omiya and Urawa is excellent as a bedroom community of Tokyo while the northern area which includes the city of Chichibu has plenty of nature.
Major Sites
Saitama Prefecture has Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park among many other sightseeing sites to enjoy nature including the downstream area of Nagatoro Gorge. Along with the landmarks of Saitama New Urban Center and Saitama Super Arena, there is a great variety of spots to see such as The Railway Museum, Bonsai Village and Kawagoe which has been dubbed “Little Edo”.
Food
Soka senbei (rice crackers), Kawagoe potato cakes and Kumagaya gokabo sweets are the 3 famous confections of Saitama. Furthermore, the prefecture is also famous as a treasure house for its comfort food including Kitamoto tomato curry which won a national curry contest, Hatogaya yakiudon (fried udon noodles) which has been recognized as one of the Top 5 yakiudon in Japan, and a form of karaage (deep-fried chicken) whose breading is made from Soka senbei. As well, there is Sayama tea which is among the Top 3 teas in the country and Coedo beer from Kawagoe which has even won acclaim abroad.
Transportation
There are 15 railways operated by JR and private corporations going from Tokyo into Saitama, so these are recommended over buses and cars. It’s customary to take the train from Tokyo Station for Omiya via Ueno or go through Ikebukuro to reach Kawagoe and Chichibu. Although Saitama has plenty of north-south lines, it has a dearth of east-west lines so if you are considering touring through the prefectural sightseeing spots, renting a car is convenient.

Kawagoe, Saitama ● 川越
► Kawagoe is also know as Koedo (Little Edo) as some of its streets - featured in the video - preserve the old castle town of the Edo period from the 16th. century.
It's a great example of old meets new in Japan, with plenty of architecture from that time to be seen - almost like being on a movie set of some samurai-movie, if it wasnt for the cars passing by, breaking the illusion. The area also hosts a wide range of Sashimi, Unagi and Soba restaurants, along with plenty of souvenir shops, selling traditional goods, such as green tea, chopsticks, knifes and yukatas. It's a brilliant place to take a walk - or by rickshaw (pulled taxi-cart) if you prefer. - Enjoy!
KAWAGOE Festival - Japanese Matsuri near Tokyo
Exploring Kawagoe and the annual festival in an older area less than an hour from Tokyo - a perfect day trip from Tokyo.
Kawagoe is known for the Warehouse District, an area with beautiful old Edo-style buildings called Kurazukuri. The famous landmark of the area is the bell tower. In October they have their annual Kawagoe Matsuri, with floats, music, dancing and Japanese street food. We were lucky to be able to experience a Japanese festival, which was even more magical at night time!

【4K】Walking at Kawagoe festival
Not a vlog, no intrusive faces or talking, pure Japan only.
Last weekend there was a festival in Kawagoe city. I wanted to go there someday anyway so it was good opportunity. It's a big tourist place so there are a lot of people in usual days and even more during the festival. After walking a bit I started understanding I will not be able to get to the Bell Tower in 1 hour because of crowds. Also, it began raining and I had no gimbal protection on. So I had to walk faster and even run to the shelter where I put protection on. Then I could calm down and walk slowly.
You can see a lot of food stalls in the beginning of the video, and old part of Kawagoe in the end. I passed multiple performance stages and even wheeled dashi

Tour through the old Japanese Town Kawagoe !
We walked through the old japanese town Kawagoe, there were a lot of edo style buildings but mixed with modern ones, it was interesting to look at this combination.
We bought sweet potato, went through a sweets street where you can see all kinds of japanese candy, ate taiyaki and visited a match making shrine. It was a busy day hahahaha.

The area also hosts a wide range of traditional old shops and restaurants, and if your feet are tired, why not take a tour around the area by rickshaw? Kawagoe is located approx. a 1 hour train ride by Saikyu Line from central Tokyo. - Enjoy!

This time, my apato friends and I (mba andri, nia and elita)went to an old town called little Edo in Kawagoe, Saitama Japan, an interesting place in Tokyo. There, we saw bell of time tower (toki no kane) when it is ringing. we also visit some temples in there. well, i felt guiIty for not wearing yukata and not liking the famous purple sweet potato soft ice cream. not to mention for could not afford to take jinrinkisha, japanese unique traditional vehicle. Still, it is another great time to remember. feels like time traveling to the past.
