Exploring the Mendocino Headlands on Scuba
Tyler and I explored the cave at Shipping Point in the Mendocino Headlands where they used to load ships with lumber heading down to San Francisco in the mid 1800's. We discovered remnants of old machinery from wheels to what appeared to be railroad tracks. We swam out and around the corner, finding a deep dark trench with lots of scallops. On the way back I ran into a wolf eel hiding in a hole. The next time I encounter one I will interact with it rather than shooting it. I found out they can be playful and you can hand feed then despite their ugly appearance and big teeth.

The status of about two dozen cabins in the Kelly's Camp district still isn't known but early reports indicate the fire's path passed through the area.
Authors@Google: Carole Terwilliger Meyers
Carole Terwilliger Meyers visits Google to present her book Weekend Adventures in San Francisco and Northern California. This event took place on Jul 21, 2009, as part of the Authors@Google series.
Life is a journey. Here to help you escape the bumps and enjoy the ride through Northern California is the thoroughly revised 8th edition of WEEKEND ADVENTURES IN SAN FRANCISCO & NORTHERN CALIFORNIA.
Award-winning author Carole Terwilliger Meyers, who published the first edition of her book in 1977, invites you to visit the vast array of vacation wonders in Northern California. You can spend the night in a coastal lighthouse, play chess on one of the two largest chessboards in the United States, and pan for gold in an authentic Gold Rush river. WEEKEND ADVENTURES has something for everyone--from weekend warriors anxious to test their mettle to world-weary slugabeds who want breakfast brought to them on a tray.
Weighing in at almost 1 1/2 pounds, WEEKEND ADVENTURES is packed with interesting places to visit: the Santa Cruz mountains, the coast south to Morro Bay and north to Eureka, the Wine Country, the Russian River area, Sacramento and the Delta, Highway 101 north and south, the national parks, the Gold Rush Country, Lake Tahoe, and the Mt. Shasta area. San Francisco and the Bay Area--including the East Bay, Marin, and the Peninsula--are also detailed. Former San Francisco mayor Willie Brown says, Ms. Meyers love for the City and her familiarity with its abundant charms are evident in each entry.
Each destination includes information on what to do, where to stay, and where to eat. Helpful extras include the most direct driving route and interesting stops along the way. Details on family amenities are provided with each listing, and the text is filled with intriguing historical tidbits and unusual facts. Additional chapters are devoted to ski areas, family camps, houseboats, river and pack trips, and assorted other adventures.

Chico wedding photographer, Kimie Robins, of Kimie Grace Photography has released a wedding magazine that features various northern CA wedding venues including Patrick Ranch Museum and Honey Run Covered Bridge.
Her magazine 16 Cute Wedding Ideas was put together to inspire brides and give them examples of wedding themes they could use by showing how some of her brides made their day special.
The guide features different wedding reception decorations, decoration ideas and flower arrangements along with some great DIY wedding ideas.
One very popular venue that takes a prominent place in the guide is Patrick Ranch Museum which boasts 28 acres of giant redwoods and oak trees. It also has a vintage water fountain that was built in 1938 as a gift for owner's wife.
Patrick Ranch is a really cool venue, and everything about it was gorgeous and romantic, and fit the bride's rustic chic wedding theme to a T. It has quickly become one of my favorite venues to shoot at as a wedding photographer.
Also highlighted in the magazine, is the unique wedding venue, Honey Run Covered Bridge. Although it is an older structure, the bridge has only recently started hosting wedding. As a newer wedding location, it is largely untouched and very romantic.
There is something incredible about a committing of two lives taking place in an historical location that has stood the test of time. Kimie says, While the wedding ceremony took place under the shade of the trees next to the bridge, the reception was actually inside the bridge itself.

The bare beams were draped with cafe bulb light strands and large white paper lanterns, only accentuating the character of the old wood and the history. Everything about this wedding was DIY; so romantic with a fresh simplicity Kimie reflects.
Although there is a wealth of wedding ideas on sites like Pinterest and blogs like stylemepretty.com, many brides have a hard time envisioning what their ideas will look like in their actual location and getting specific ideas based on their venue. It can be very helpful to see what someone else has already done and use their ideas as a launching pad for their own ideas.
If you would like to download a free digital copy of Kimie's wedding magazine it can be accessed at her website. kimiegracephoto.com.

Josie Iselin + Susan Middleton: The Slimy and the Spineless – Portraits of Unsung Ocean Heroes
Both advocates for thinking differently about ocean preservation, photographers and authors Josie Iselin and Susan Middleton have taken similar approaches to two complementary subjects, bringing knowledge and appreciation to little-understood or recognized subjects. Seaweed (marine algae) and spineless animals (marine invertebrates) embody the two dominant realms of life in the sea, and, in fact, they form the foundation for life on earth, yet they are largely unknown to the human eye. Each author will give a concise presentation of their own work and field questions from each other and the audience.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain

SUMMARY
=======
The Lockheed U-2, nicknamed Dragon Lady, is an American single-jet engine, ultra-high altitude reconnaissance aircraft operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) and previously flown by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It provides day and night, high-altitude (70,000 feet; 21,000 m), all-weather intelligence gathering.Lockheed Corporation originally proposed it in 1953, approval followed 1954, and the first test flight occurred in 1955. It was flown during the Cold War over the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, and Cuba. In 1960, Gary Powers was shot down in a CIA U-2A over the Soviet Union by a surface-to-air missile (SAM). Major Rudolf Anderson Jr. was shot down in another U-2 during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
U-2s have also taken part in post–Cold War conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, and supported several multinational NATO operations. The U-2 has also been used for electronic sensor research, satellite calibration, scientific research, and communications purposes. The U-2 is one of a handful of aircraft types to have served the USAF for over 50 years, like the Boeing B-52 and Boeing KC-135. The newest models (TR-1, U-2R, U-2S) entered service in the 1980s with the latest model, the U-2S, receiving its technical upgrade in 2012.
