7 Wonders of India: Kesariya Stupa
Located in Kesariya, about 55 km from Vaishali, in East Champaran District, Kesariya Stupa is a terraced circular Buddhist stupa of bricks laid in a very thin layer of mud, mortar and capped by a large cylindrical drum of solid brick work. It consists of five huge terraces, each enshrining life size images of Lord Buddha and 104 feet high. A giant manadala can be seen at the top. Life size images of Buddha found within the cells of the stupa representing Buddhas various postures. It commemorates the spot where Buddha rested on his final journey to Kushinagar from Vaishali. It is considered the biggest Buddhist stupa in the world.

Buddha StupaThe stupa is the largest in the world, with a height of 104 ft, and attracts lots of Buddhist pilgrims from around the world. Excavated in 1998, the stupa is rare example of Buddhist architecture and archaelogical preservation. The stupa competes with that of Borobodur (103 ft) in Java, a world heritage site, of 103-m height. It is believed that the stupa has further immersed into earth after the famous 1934- earthquake before which, the height of this stupa was 123 ft. Huen Tsang has mentioned, in his travelogue, about this giant stupa. Some important aspects of Buddha's life are associated with Kesaria. It is known that he spent a night at this place before his Nirvana, and gave his begging -bowl to the people of Vaishali. Buddha also asked Lichhivis to return to Vaishali after his death and its believed that Lichhivis built this stupa.
The stupa is believed to be of a height of 150 ft while the Borobodur is of 138. The striking similarity in the two is that both have six floors, and the diameter of the Kesaria stupa is equal to that of the width of the Borobodur. The stupa was built to commemorate the end-life of Lord Buddha, by Licchvis, as for the matter of fact Buddha held the Lichhvis high and also preached others to do so.
The place is a reminiscent to the Buddha's last phase of life, his humanitarian approach towards all, independent of caste and creed. His simple and ethical principles also come into mind while one travels this huge Stupa, nearly twice as large as that of Sanchi.
Excavated in 1998, this place has become a global tourist attraction within a short span of time. The place exerts a spiritual effect on everybody and relieves the aesthetics. According to some archaeologists, this monument dates back to 200 AD to 750 AD, and is associated to some Raja Chakravarti. The circumference of this brick monument is nearly 1400 ft which, is a certificate of its bulky structure.
The excavation led to many significant findings such as Islamic coins, arrow heads, copper and terracotta items etc.
The landscape is also quite attractive and has a heartwarming effect on the tourists travelling to the city.

Patna , in the Champaran (east) district of Bihar , India . Kesaria Stupa has a circumference of almost 1,400 feet (430 m) and raises to a height of about 104 feet (32 m).
भगवान बुद्ध जब महापरिनिर्वाण ग्रहण करने
कुशीनगर जा रहे थे तो वह एक दिन के लिए केसरिया में ठहरें थे। जिस स्थान पर पर वह ठहरें थे उसी जगह पर कुछ समय बाद सम्राट अशोक ने स्मरण के रूप में स्तूप का निर्माण करवाया था। इसे विश्व का सबसे बड़ा स्तूप माना जाता है। वर्तमान में यह स्तूप 1400 फीट के क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ है और इसकी ऊंचाई 51 फीट है। अलेक्जेंडर कनिंघम के अनुसार मूल स्तूप 70 फीट ऊंचा था।
यह बिहार के चंपारण जिला में केसरिया नामक स्थान पर स्थित है।

Kesariya stupa is situated in the East Champaran district of Bihar, India. Kesariya serves as the place of the largest Buddhist stupa in the world.it is located at a distance of about 110 km from Patna,
the capital of Bihar.
The stupa is believed to date back to somewhere between 200 AD and 750 AD may have been associated with gautam buddha.
This remarkable structure was discovered by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in 1998.
The stupa is the largest in the world, with a height of 104 ft, and attracts lots of Buddhist pilgrims from around the world.
The stupa is rare example of Buddhist architecture and archaeological preservation.

In this video, I will tell you about the Kesaria Stupa.
Kesaria Stupa is a Buddhist stupa, which is situated at a distance of 110 km from Patna, Uttar Pradesh.
This stupa is spread around 1400 feet, and its height is 104 feet.
It is said that it is the largest stupa in the world.
When Gautam Buddha took Mahaparinirvana, then while going to Kushinagar, stayed here for a day.
Because of this incident, Emperor Ashoka built this stupa here.
This stupa was again discovered in 1986 by the Archeology Department of India.
Before the excavation it was believed that here is Shiva Temple which was built by King Bhim.
This stupa is also called as Devla by local people.
In the terrible earthquake of 1934, the Stupa shook the hill in Bihar. This stupa was 6-storey.
