Dar es Salaam - Kivukoni fish market, inside views, biggest in Tanzania - don't miss
The biggest fish market in Tanzania. Go in the early morning and you will see fishers arriving from night fishing and you find fresh catches of all kind of fish, octopus, shrimps and crabs. Just to avoid any misunderstandings: yes sharks are also fish, hence you find also sharks there. If you wanna take pics better take a guide, else you may hear funny stories that this is not allowed and that you have to pay a fine now.

Dar es Salaam Kivukoni fish Market!!
Dar es Salaam fish market is located right next to downtown Dar Es Salaam, on Ocean Road, adjacent to the Kigamboni Ferry pier. It's not far to walk there from downtown or take a taxi. Dar Es Salaam fish market starts daily at dawn. To see the fish auction, be there by 7 am. It is the best place around to go for fresh fish, shrimp and lobster. Literally off the boat, you can't beat the prices, the fish is delicious, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Best bit - they'll even pack a foam cooler with ice so you can bring your purchases back wherever you came from.

Dar es Salaam Fish Market (Tanzania)
In August 2009, we were forced to spend many hours in Dar es Salaam waiting for a connecting flight to Europe. We decided to hire a taxi and get a ride to downtown, to take a look at its famous Fish Market.
We found there a picture of humanity that leaved us breathless. When we left we felt to have learned something more about African life.

How to negotiate in African Market (Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania)
In my first few days in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, I went to a not touristy and a bit smelly but famous place- KIVUKONI FISH MARKET. The place is known to be the trading spot for fish and here's where you can buy fresh fish and various seafoods (prawns, crabs, lobsters, mussles etc.) at a very reasonable price.
If you love seafoods as much as I do, then this is a riveting place to visit. Watch this video to see local vendors on site and see how this will change your perception about africa. ????
