Kodaikanal Lake, also known as Kodai Lake is a manmade lake located in the Kodaikanal city in Dindigul district in Tamil Nadu, India. Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the then Collector of Madurai, was instrumental in creating the lake in 1863, amidst the Kodaikanal town which was developed by the British and early missionaries from USA. The lake is said to be Kodaikanal's most popular geographic landmark and tourist attraction.
Over the years a boat club, boathouse and boat service (with rowing boats and pedalling boats and a public ferry) for the public and tourists has become fully functional and is of aesthetic significance for tourism. Boat Pageant and Flower Shows are a regular feature in the summer season which attracts tourists
Kodaikanal Lake is an artificial, roughly star-shaped 45 ha (60 acres) lake built in 1863. It is Kodaikanal's most popular geographic landmark and tourist attraction. Rowboats and pedalos can be hired at the Kodaikanal Boat Club. Horses and bicycles can be hired beside the lake for short periods.

Last weekend I was in Kodaikanal. I took a small trip to Mannavanur lake which is almost 40 kms from the city. The place looks heavenly and is very beautiful. Here is a summary of my trip through my camera lens. Hope you all enjoy it :)

Kodaikanal is a hill town in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s set in an area of granite cliffs, forested valleys, lakes, waterfalls, and grassy hills. At 2,000 meters above sea level, the town centers around man-made, star-shaped Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest. 2: Coaker walk: One of the popular tourist spots in Kodaikanal, Coaker’s Walk is just half kilometre away from the Kodaikanal Lake.
La Saleth Church: La Saleth Church is sited up on a cliff edge outside of town. In order to reach there, you have to ascend a steep staircase which guides you to the door of this beautiful shrine.
Upper Lake view: Situated 3.2 km away from the Coakers Walk, Upper Lake View is a famous tourist attraction in Kodaikanal and one which is worth visiting on the way to Green valley viewpoint.
Dolphin Nose: Situated at a distance of 8 km from the main city of Kodaikanal, the Dolphin's Nose provides a bird's eye view of the scenic landscape of the surrounding mountainous area.
Vattakanal Falls /Pambar Falls : Vattakanal Falls situated at a distance of 3 km from the town of Kodaikanal is famous for its rich biodiversity
Green Valley View/Suicide Point: Suicide point(Green Valley View) offers a breathtaking view of the plains, deep valleys and hills of Kodai. This attraction is near to Kodaikanal Golf Club
Golf Club: Kodaikanal Golf Club is a private membership club with an 18-hole, par 71 Golf course. It is located about 6 kilometres (4 mi) southwest from the center of Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu, South India at an elevation of 2,220 metres (7,280 ft).
Pillar Rocks: Located 8 Kms away from the lake, Pillar rocks constitutes of three granite boulders and each of a height of 400 feet standing shoulder to shoulder. It also makes for an interesting picnic spot. The chamber between the two pillars is called Devil's kitchen.

1:Silent valley: Silent Valley View is located in close proximity to the Pillar rock garden in Kodaikanal. The point is famous for proffering some astounding and stunning views of the Silent Valley. The Silent Valley view is another important and attractive place that should not be missed by any nature enthusiast. It is situated at a little distance from the Pillar Rock and is seen on the Berijam lake road and the breathtaking view of this valley will be soothing to the eyes.The panoramic view of this place will make the tourists to spend a lot of time watching the scenic beauty. Children visiting this place has to be taken care by their parents as the valley is very deep and will at its very best when viewed between early mornings and late afternoons.
2 Berijam lake view point: It gives an amazing view of Berijam lake from the top, if there are no clouds on the day you visit this place. Its a place very near to silent valley. A View of the most beautiful lake in South India.
3: Berijam lake: Berijam Lake is protected by Forest laws and the immensely beautiful forest. Tourists need special permission from the forest office in Kodaikanal to go there. It is better to be an early bird to get the permission, as the forest office closes by 11:30 am. Tourists are allowed to stay in Berijam till the evening. This viewpoint is 19 KMs from Kodaikkanal Lake.
4: Medicine Forest view point: This Medicine Forest has a certain species of trees whose fragrance is believed to have hallucinogenic effects
5: Caps Fly valley: A steep valley in between two mountains and the air current here lifts the objects thrown in the valley. Objects thrown here come back like the boomerang or the frisbee due to the air currents. It is fun to watch.

Covering an expanse of 60 acres, this man-made, star-shaped lake has been welcoming countless tourists since 1863. Created by Sir Vere Henry Levinge, the then Collector of Madurai, the lake is fed by the waters that come from Palani Hills. The lake’s outflow creates a breathtaking waterfall, which is called “Silver Cascade”. At a height of 180 ft, the cascade is also one of the popular places to visit in Kodaikanal
2. Mannavanur Lake
One of the most serene places to visit in Kodaikanal, Mannavanur Lake is nothing less than a paradise. The drive to the lake is absolutely scenic as the road on both the side is pined with eucalyptus and pine trees. Mannavanur area is blessed with rich fauna. One can see exotic birds flying and spot wild animals. The lake is located inside a sheep farm where one can see flocks of sheep grazing. The Forest Department of the area offers coracle ride at a nominal fee, one can also go for horse riding.

During monsoon season, the waterfall is in full swing making it look grand and gorgeous. A railway line extended from Chennai to Tirunelveli with an intermediate station at Ammaianayakkanur (later renamed Kodai Road) was built in 1875, to provide a gateway to Kodaikanal town and there on to the lake through a foot trek of 18 km from the railhead. The nearest railheads to the lake presently are the Kodai Road railway Station at 80 km and the Palani Railway station at 64 km distance, from the town. Madurai (at 121 km) and Coimbatore (at 135 km) airports are the closest to the Lake. Kodai Lake is well connected by road with regular bus services operating to Madurai, Palani, Kodaikanal Road, Theni, Dindigul, Thiruchirapalli, Kumili, Erode, Bangalore and Coimbatore.

The rooms are very aesthetically done and are so comfortable. The staff is so warm and welcoming. Everyone in the property from managers to staff make you feel at home. We visited during FiFa World Cup 2018 and they arranged for a special match screening for the guests. How lovely is that!!
Even the food is good.You must try their juices. It is freshly made everyday from locally available fruits and are quite tasty.
The best part is the location of dinning area. It has such amazing views. Having hot served food among nature is an memory that will last you for a long time.
