Kawagoe Trip Episode Series:
Candy Alley is a little shopping street adjacent to the Warehouse District. It is lined by stores selling traditional Japanese sweets and cakes, which gave the alley its name. Among the treats sold are various candies, rice crackers, karinto (sugar coated, deep fried cookies), ice cream, and cakes made of red bean paste and sweet potatoes. Also available are small toys and accessories which make nice souvenirs to take home.

Koedo Kawagoe was a town that flourished for merchants during the Edo period. This scenery still remains today and is a popular tourist destination for foreigners.
Today we will be introducing Kashiya Yokocho, or Candy Alley, which is an especially popular place for tourists in Kawagoe.
KOEDO Kawagoe/ Traditional Japan/ Samurai
If you're a fan of samurai or the movie 47 Ronin, you should check out Kawagoe, a town in Saitama Prefecture which is just 30 minutes away from central Tokyo (former Edo)! The town is more known as KOEDO which means Little Tokyo.
This place will give you the chance to experience the traditional Japan -- a long long time ago when samurai rules. Aside from being a historical town, it has a bunch of relaxing attractions/sightseeing spots which I have listed below.

Koedo, which means Little Edo, is a great place to experience Japan circa 1603 to 1867. Its old wooden warehouses, classic bell tower, old-fashioned candy shops, castle and temple offer a glimpse of what life was like several centuries ago when the area prospered as a transportation and commerce hub.
The old storehouse merchant houses are lined up, and the Toki-no-kane (Bell Tower)
rings to tell the time.
Take a stroll through the town in a kimono and you'll feel as if you've traveled back in time to ancient Edo.
In Kawagoe, you can experience the traditional and pure Japan which you can't see in Tokyo.

Kawagoe AKA Little Edo -Tokyo Day Trip Vlog
Kawagoe is a great place to check out, if you want to see a bit of traditional Japan without travelling far out of Tokyo. Kawagoe is in Saitama Prefecture and have a bunch of interesting attractions or sightseeing places, so it makes for a good Tokyo Day Trip.
We checked out the bell of time, kurazukuri, and the kashiya yokocho or Confectionery row?
Kawagoe became a booming area for Japanese desserts and/or candy after the Great Kanto Earthquake rocked most of the Kanto area. There most famous confectioneries are mostly potato based.
Due to the old warehouses architecture, Kawagoe is often refered to as Little Edo or Little Tokyo.

Guesthouse Caravan・20カ月目となる今回訪れたのは、小江戸と称される蔵造りの町並みが特徴的な埼玉県川越市。この街にある「ちゃぶだい Guesthouse Cafe&Bar」に宿泊しました????
築100年の立派な長屋を改装したゲストハウス。木製の電話ボックスや箱階段などかつての趣をリユースした見事なリノベーションも見どころですが、特筆すべきは、中庭の奥にある小屋を用いて眼鏡屋の工房兼ショップ「澤口眼鏡舎」が開かれていること！
他にも、地元の作家や店主を集めたマーケットイベント「ちゃぶだい百貨店」を時々開催しているそう。川越の魅力を発信することに積極的で、地域との関わり合いが素晴らしいです。滞在を自慢したくなるくらいカッコイイ”友達の実家”に泊まるような居心地のよさ。東京から約1時間というアクセスの良さなので、気まぐれ旅にぜひ☺️
We had stayed at a guesthouse “Chabudai Guesthouse Cafe&Bar” at Kawagoe city in Saitama, and took a video about our trip. For example, inside of the guesthouse, our event, the scenery of walking in town etc. It was a wonderful trip!
