Rabaul war museum 2014
05 Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, Jan 27, 2017
We visited the Volcano City and it's Japanese WWII headquarters. Jan 27, 2017
We started our day with a short visit to Rabaul's Market where locals buy much of their food and supplies, We then rented a private van for a more complete tour of Rabaul and surrounding areas. Our first stop was at Yamamoto's Bunker from WWII where we visited a small museum of WWI and WWII memorabilia followed by a venture inside Yamamoto's Bunker.
Next we Traveled to the Volcano Observatory peak where we had a birds-eye view of the whole bay, & were serenaded by a group of local children.
Third stop was to see some of the caves where the Japanese hid submarines. Hundreds of miles of tunnels were dug by the Japanese to protect against the constant bombardment from the air.
Finally we visited the “East New Britain Historical & Cultural Centre Kokopo Museum” where a multitude of WWII mechanical carcasses are displayed. The only complete “nose art” display of a downed US aircraft is at this museum.

Visit Rabaul, Papua New Guinea: Admiral Yamamoto's Bunker
If only the Japanese had listened to Admiral Yamamoto's advice about going to war against America. Did you know he attended Harvard? This is just one of his famous quotes:
In the first 6-12 months of a war with the United States and Great Britain I will run wild and win victory upon victory. But then, if the war continues after that, I have no expectation of success.

Visit Rabaul, Papua New Guinea: A Rabaul Highlights Tour
A busy morning in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea with much to see. I had to divide Rabaul into three videos of which this is the first.
Why do the Rabaul people refer to whites as dim-dim? Has to do with the first missionaries - at least this is what I was told. The natives saw whites blowing their nose into a square of tissue and keeping it. What? Keep body fluids? I agree -- dim-dim --
