This travel video is of a Korean Traditional Marriage reenactment performance that took place at the Korean Folk Village (한국 민속촌) located in Yongin, South Korea. The Korean Traditional Wedding Ceremony called Pae Baek (폐백). We've all seen it somewhere, either through a Korean drama or a family or friends wedding. Traditionally, the Pae Baek is a ceremonial practice where the groom's family accepts the new bride into their home as part of the family.

During the ceremony both the bride and groom wear Hanbok's (한복). These traditional outfits date back to the Joseon Dynasty where women and men of the Royal Family wore these decorative, bright colored outfits for formal functions or ceremonies. The 20th century has modernized the Hanbok's for practical reasons. Korean Folk Village is a popular tourist destination for both Koreans and foreigners. It is located near Everland, South Korea's largest amusement park.
The purpose of Korean Folk Village is to display elements of traditional Korean life and culture. There are multiple sections to the park. There are numerous replicas of traditional houses of the different social classes (peasant, landowner, yangban) from various regions.
The park also has a traditional street market, restaurants, and showcases of traditional wordworking and metalworking techniques. There are performances of traditional dances, equestrian skills, marriage ceremonies, and recreational activities.
An amusement park section has rides and games, an art museum, a sculpture garden, a Korean Folk Museum, and a World Folk Museum which highlights traditional lifestyles from around the world.

I really enjoyed visiting the Korean Folk Village! It's a little ways outside of Seoul (about an hour, sometimes two hour drive in traffic) but it's definitely worth visiting. It was such a change of pace from going from the hustle and bustle of Seoul to the calmness and serenity of the Korean Folk Village. If you're visiting Korea, make a day out of visiting the Korean Folk Village! One of the highlights of my trip to Seoul :)

Time now for our Life & Info segment,... where we focus on information useful for your everyday life.
Today we are going to introduce the Korean Folk Village in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do Province - where visitors can see and feel what South Korea was like hundreds years ago.
The Korean Folk Village is hosting Joseon cultural festival and we have our Kan Hyeong-woo in the studio to tell us more about it.
So Hyeong-woo, tell us more about this festival....
Mark, the name of this festival is 'Welcome to Joseon'.
The Joseon era was a dynastic kingdom that lasted for about five hundred years from the late 1300s to the late 1800s.
At the Korean Folk Village, the setting is already in the Joseon-style with old architectures and props.
On top of that, there are also actors dressed in traditional clothes of local government officer, saddo, women trained as professional singer, dancer and companion for men, gisaeng, and many more in Korean traditional clothes Hanbok.
The actors and actresses behave just like the characters from the Joseon era while actively interacting with visitors.
You could technically time travel back to the old Korea there. What should visitors expect to experience when they go?
Well they offer a range of performances but before we get into that, the scenery there is wonderful and you can soak in all the authentic beauty of old Korea. Let's get some reviews from the visitors I met there.
Just so many programs, there's so many things. The nature here is very nice, too. The air is nice. So it's a very nice place to come. I feel like every foreigner who comes to Seoul must come to the Korean Folk Village to kind of have an experience.
It's been fun and educational. It's nice that you can get to go through the traditional layout of how Korea used to be and the food is good, too.
The Korean Folk Village offers a number of performances for visitors.
One of the most exciting events is the Equestrian Feats,... where professional riders put on a show by displaying how the horse-riders used to train back in the Joseon Dynasty.
They also have a traditional wedding ceremony to show how people got married in the past.
While everyone dresses in traditional clothes, the bride and groom take off on their honeymoon in the old-fashion way.
And there is a concert to celebrate the birth of local governor.
The performers dance to EDM music and play percussion instruments. ( )
EDM and Joseon Dynasty mixed in one performance. It must be good fun. Anyway, are there any hands-on experiences that visitors can enjoy?
They have this stamp tour.
I actually brought my stamp from there yesterday with me.
So there are twenty empty slots and to get the marks, there are two ways.
One is that you can try out different costumes from the Joseon Dynasty, including traditional wedding clothes and officers' outfits.
But if you want to try on these costumes, you have to pay three-thousand won which is bit less than three U.S. dollars.
Or you could buy a picnic lunchbox and a mat to get the stamps.
Once you have collected all of them, you will be given this 'Hopae' - an identification tag used during the Joseon Dynasty.
One might wonder, 'why do I need to pay?'
But this was an actual practice of reaching social upper-class back in the Joseon era. ( )
This is what 'Hopae' looks like and it says VIP Yangban, who were the upper-ruling class during that time.
Those who were in the lower-class could go around and buy the identification tag and lift up their social standing.
Interesting. Lastly, any tips you would like to give our viewers if they want to visit the Korean Folk Village?
Given that it's a large place and most performances take place outside, you should definitely check the weather before you decide to go.
The Korean Folk Village's 'Welcome to Joseon' festival runs through June 23rd and it is located in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do Province, which is about a 30-minute drive from Seoul.
The venue opens every day from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM in April, and to 6:30 PM in May and June.
The weekend hours are extended by 30 minutes.
The regular admission fee for adults is twenty-thousand Won, about seventeen U.S. dollars.
But they offer a number of promotions to give you discounts, so for more information you should check out their official website.

Visitors to Korea can step back in time this spring and summer, and experience life back in the Joseon Dynasty.
The Korean Folk Village is hosting a traditional culture festival named 'Welcome to Joseon' and our Kan Hyeong-woo takes us there.
Dressed in traditional clothes, horse-riders perform highly-skilled techniques.
The crowd answers with a round of applause.
The Korean Folk Village has organized a special cultural festival- 'Welcome to Joseon.'
It's been fun and educational. It's nice that you can get to go through the traditional layout of how Korea used to be and the food is good, too.
The Joseon dynasty era lasted for about five hundred years from the late 1300s to the late 1800s.
Surrounded by Joseon-style architecture and props, actors dressed in traditional outfits perform skills on horseback, as well as holding a traditional wedding ceremony and a concert to celebrate the local governor's birthday.

Those were what I expected. And of course, just like I expected, I was able to see traditional houses and watch traditional shows
but those were not the only activities I enjoyed in the folk village
I watched people stealing watermelons and met cool mountain gods and went on rides

In this travel video we (Samuel & Audrey) visit the Korean Folk Village (한국 민속촌) located in Yongin, Korea to absorb some traditional Korean culture, performances and customs. We first check out a tightrope performances where an elderly Korean man performs impressive students and acrobatics. When then hustle off to watch an impressive equestrian performances featuring jumps, whips, leaps, stunts and more; however, not before a Korean Folk Village rendition of Psy's Gangnam Style. Afterwards, we check out a Korean traditional wedding featuring traditional clothing and Hanbok.

Once the performances are over we find ourselves with a lot more free time to roam around. We both marvel at the lovely colours of fall as seen in the colourful leaves. We enjoy snacking on Korean rice cakes and Yeot (a sticky rice taffy made of natural ingredients like pumpkin). We visit some traditional Korean homes including a scholars house. We cross numerous types of bridges trying our best not to fall into the river. Finally, we enjoy swinging on some traditional Korean swings before calling it a day. Overall, it was a great experience that we'd recommend to others:

We're at the Korean folk village today and we're here to experience traditional Korean culture. This is located in between Suwon and Yongin, which is in the Gyeongi-do province and behind me is something that looks like a smoking penis.
We've been wanting to come here to the Folk Village for a few months now but we waited until the very end of fall. It is now the first week of November and as you can see the colors are now perfect.
I have a clump of candy in my cheek. Nice! We just bought some sticky rice taffy and it is all natural. It is very sweet. It is kind of like a chewy candy.

We are now going to a scholars home - come see.
Here in the scholars house we can see the different kinds of hand weaving and the different baskets on display along the wall.
We've got some giant traditional pots used for drying red peppers and other things. Other things? Maybe kimchi. It is used for storing kimchi.
What is this? That is a Korean traditional toilet and it is a small hole in the ground. You better have good aim I'm telling you.
What are you doing? It is dry corn it is not very tasty.
Who is the workhorse in the relationship? Clearly, I am. Carry the load. Carry the heavy load. Fetch the water. I'm just going to walk around. It is actually kind of heavy.
We've been walking around for a few hours now and we've watched several performances and visited the little shops. They sell lots of souvenirs. You can buy local treats. It has been fun.
Behind me are Korean totem poles. They are somewhat similar to the ones that you can find in Canada in North American and also in the US.
The big difference here is that these are a lot slimmer and the facial expressions are quite something. You can look. They look happy.
That was our day at the Korean Folk Village. We are done.

Both international and Korean students from Ewha and Yonsei (and like, two people from other schools) teamed up to visit the traditional Korean Folk Village (한국민속) from the Joseon era! It was beautiful weather and we all wore hanbok and played traditional games and ate traditional candies and....tortured people??

Me and my friends visited the Korean Folk Village in Yongin South of Seoul. A few famous dramas were partly shot there. But even if you're not a Korean drama fan the village is worth a visit.

On a beautiful spring day, 7 of us went to Korean Folk Village to celebrate my wife, Yoon's birthday. We first went to a custom rental shop to borrow Korean tradition custom.
As soon as we all got to the Folk village, we opened 8 bottles of wine, and got drunk, then walked around the folk village like a bunch of fools. It was a fun day. The park is basically a place to be somebody you saw in a TV show and walk around. You will also see hired actors all over the place.
