#75 - Kosmaj, Serbia - Belgrade to Mt. Kosmaj 3/4 - Kosmaj (07/2013)
Perhaps the best part of this ride! Although I was tired and not going fast down the mountain, descents are far from being the only interesting ingredient. There's a lot of nice places and some incredible views, as I go through some of the most enjoyable areas around Belgrade. Mostly bad roads and poor infrastructure aside, if you really want to get away from the business, noise and stress of a big city, this is the way to go.
Of course, you also get to see the famous monument to victims of WWII on Mt. Kosmaj(featured on the thumbnail), a major landmark of the area, you'll see me getting lost ;)and villages (or parts) of Rogača, Dučina, Manić and Slatina. And just one real climb, from Rogača to Dučina.
Filmed in July 2013.

MOUNTAIN KOSMAJ; SERBIA
Mountain Kosmaj is located 55 kilometers from Belgrade. It is 626 meters high. The Kosmaj area is a protected nature site. In the time of Despot Stefan Lazarevic, Kosmaj became the religious center of Northern Serbia and Serbian Despotate. In that time, Kosmaj was also known as “Kosmaj’s Holy Mountain”. There are a lot of tourist attractions at Kosmaj, which makes it one of the favourite tourist destinations for the people from Belgrade and Mladenovac, because it is very near to those cities.

2019 / Planina Kosmaj 2019
Kosmaj: Epizoda 1 - Istorija i znamenitosti

3D model: Monument to Kosmaj WWII partisan division, Belgrade, Serbia
3D model made with Google Sketchup 8.
I used this sculpture as a subject for practice modelling, after seeing it in this collection of otherworldly socialist era sculptures from the former Yugoslavia:
Another photo:
They look like monuments from lost future-past civilizations - the structures are from 3,000 years in the future, but this is what they look like another 2,000 years later, after they've long been abandoned. Something out of the 1960 movie adaptation of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine.
The Morlocks live under this one.
